  • Isaac Brock opened my mind up to a fascination of the spoken metaphor that continues some 15 years later, if not longer...One of the best lyricists and songwriters of my generation. I don't think even he realizes how powerful his song writing is.

  • @marnold6879 i've thought about that before..."does this guy have any idea what kind of impact he has made on music?" he is going to be remembered for a very long time.

  • if i lost everything. id still have my love for modest mouse. and that would make it okay.

  • "No i dont like this change of pace" is the best line of all time in any song especially this one!!!

  • This is perfect music and lyrics

  • its was a long 394 miles, with nothing but a "her" to think about every weeken.

  • I listened to this song a lot when I was 17. I lived in the outer suburbs on the edge of the city. I would listen to it on my walkman as I walked past half completed shopping centers and cookie cutter suburban housing developments on my way home from school. I really fucking get this song.

  • que chingona banda saludos d aqui de mexico

  • 2 people dont appreciate good music when they hear it, probably stuck on radio overplay!

  • im in love with early modest mouse right now!

  • SME is destroying my playlists

  • every lyrics page is different, i like "I dont think it shows" and "Remember her"

  • the lyrics are interchange plaza malls not interchange, plazas & malls

  • Best song by modest mouse off the best album by modest mouse

  • anyone know if theres a live version/vide of this??

  • I get a " someone is finally thinking what i'm thinking" feeling when MM is playing

  • @optimisticcosmic Very well put. I first thought that when I heard the chorus of lives, "It's hard to remember.." Another lyric that sticks out is, "You don't know who you are, but you know who you wanna be."

  • @irishblood97 yeah,

  • is this song just MIND BLOWING or wtf i love modest mouse most creative and inspiring band EVER

  • I love Modest Mouse but there's something about their songs that compels YouTubers to make some awfully cringe-inducing, mushy comments about their own lives. I'm not saying I don't like being sentimental, but bleeeghh. I don't care about you and I doubt you'd be interested much in my story either.

  • fav mm song = neverending math equation

  • I fuckin love this song so much. It can bring me up out of a very bad mood. Then again any MM song can

    :)

  • my fav mm songs: sleepwalking, positive negative, novocain

  • @jugjugsthekoolaidman my exact favourite three mm songs too. well played.

  • this makes me miss being 16

  • @ukulele414 4 reals

  • @ukulele414 no shit

  • @indyaidan i hope to GOD you are joking ... >.>

  • @FlaminBelgianWaffles hahaha seriously.

  • @FlaminBelgianWaffles Why? He didn't say anything bad about the song. It's just an opinion. I actually think that Dashboard is a great song, not better than this one of course, but I still think that people should be able to enjoy songs like Float On and Dashboard and not get judged for it.

  • @FlaminBelgianWaffles what's wrong with what he said? i share his opinion, it's just a slightly different taste in music.

  • @indyaidan you be trollin

  • if you like Modest Mouse so much at least have the curtiousy to spell it out

  • @blinkman1821 um.... why on earth would that even matter

  • @blinkman1821 courtesy*

  • one of my favorite MM songs

  • My favourite MM song

  • the good ol days of mm

  • i can't believe how incredible modest mouse is. they've been among my top favorite bands for a couple years now, and i'm still finding songs by them that i've never heard before and are amazing. i have a new favorite every other week. i saw them in concert a few weeks ago and they were extremely good live. just altogether a genius group of people making great music.

  • @mergs8690 their the only band ive left in the top 5 favorite band spot my whole life.

  • It's funny to me that so many are raving about Brock's lyricism in this song, when for me, the drums are what make it. I believe It was Jeremiah Green on percussion here.

  • @austinFLAUGH i totally agree....there is just something about his timing and everything

  • @austinFLAUGH ya jerimiah is an amazing drummer but i think isaac is the most important part. i mean the lyrics and singing build all the emotion but the instramentals are essential too.

  • issac brock your such an amazing writer. Your songs bring joy to everyone. I cant tell you how amazing your music is!

  • WHY IS MODEST MOUSE SO GOD DAMNED GOOD?!

  • This song is really happy! a lot happier then the title. well the title could be happy too hahah

  • this song has made me cry before.

  • Isaac Brock is a genius

  • Definitely in my top 5 MM songs.

  • @vaguelyhumanoid my top 5 songs anyway lol

  • this whole album rocks-makes me feel things

  • this song reminds me of my uncle Rudy who committed suicide eight years ago

    R.I.P. RUDY 10

  • In the beginning of this song i feel depressed and then my feelings do a complete 180... 38 seconds into it i love this song so much!

  • thank you for posting this(:

can someone, anyone, PLEASE post white lies and yellow teeth by modest mouse? i can't find it...

  • @ofurbanesuavity youtube.com/watch?v=7ipusjp6COg

  • lets all have 19 kids each .......

  • @DJThrasherful On that topic, Silversun Pickups always quoted Built to Spill as their main influence, but most mainstream sorts of interviewers would be all.. "Built to who?" So now their main influence is the smashing pumpkins.

  • one of the best songs, ever, by anyone. subjectively speaking, of course...

  • lolno

  • any one know where to get a copy of the original interstate 8?

  • When I was young I was a punk rock/indie snob that prided myself on finding bands before everyone else. No that I am a corporate sellout I do not have the time to be the first and I don't care. I love inspired/passionate music and artists regardless if a buddy burns me a CD or if I see them live 5 years before anyone hears about them. Find good music and share it. The people who found Modest Mouse before they signed a major label made it possible for the rest of us to experience their music.

  • Well said bro, if you really enjoy the music why not let others enjoy it as well.

  • Yes please!

  • You still seem to be a little egocentric

  • Little is an understatement. Thanks for your comment.

  • @brnoyes888

    you read hipster runoff regularly?

  • I had not heard of it prior to your comment. I checked it out. Seems like a good site to follow. Thanks.

  • @brnoyes888 lol i was listening to modest mouse before they got big though, you jelly?

  • @brnoyes888 I think however it's sad to see the bands who get bigger because of the same people to completely change their style for the wider audience, it's been happening a lot recently.

  • @JamesWheelz artists evolve that's what he's feeling and that's what he wants to put out his old stuff is badass and will forever be one of my favorite musics but his new stuff is still pretty badass and im glad he put it out and it still moves me...

  • @metallvoid Oh I'm not saying the new stuff is bad, I love it! but with other bands, like Biffy Clyro for example have got worse imo as a result of wanting to appeal to a wider audience.

  • Fan's a fan, no one's greater. It would even seem to me, that the more obseesed one's are even missing a point somewhat. If someone dug "Float On" enough to search out some older songs of theirs, then it doesn't matter when that someone jumped on the bandwagon. You are both there.

  • i like never ending math equation

  • I have been losing my Modest Mouse appeal since I stopped drinking. I use to love them in my extreme alcoholic days. They fit my depressive manic moods back then. Now, I'm a Phill Collins kind of guy.......Jk

  • @Yinzerdude

Don't ever mention Modest Mouse and Phil Collins in the same sentence!

  • @jgood911 phil LAWL

  • hahahahahaha

    someone thumbs downed you

  • @Yinzerdude end your life quickly, u got that lame ass magikarp type swag LOL

  • @oxfordkingpin24 , Learn fuckin sarcasm you stupid fuck. God, how fuckin stupid are you dumb fuckers. For fucks sake. Jesus fuck. Are you kids this fuckin stupid these day? I was probably seeing Issac Brock at the electric factory when you were still being dropped on your head and didn't discover "Float on" yet you dumb fuck.

  • @Yinzerdude why so angry u little caterpee LOL

  • haha was that a pokemon reference

  • spitting venom is my favourite

  • spitting venom is pretty good......not my fav of all time but my fav off of "we were dead.."

  • Float on... ;)

  • i like king rat

  • what is your favorite modest mouse song?

  • hmm difficult question..

hmm I think it's lives or third planet

  • My mom's god is a woman, and my mom she is a witch...

  • @looshkin66

    I LIKE THIS.

MY HELL COMES FROM INSIDE COMES FROM INSIDE MYSELF

    WHY TRY THIS

  • It's "Why fight this?" not why try this

  • Everyone's afraid of their own lives,

If you could be anything you want....

I bet you'd be disappointed, am I right?

  • @ljfish420 idiot boy

  • Thats easy....any song that im listening to at the time is my fav. I love all m.m. equally.

  • good question... i dig gray ice water.

  • Brock is one of the most over looked singers when it comes to his lyrics. A total poet.

  • i hate chain restraunts....

  • You must construct additional chain resteraunts.

  • brock's a damn poet.

  • yeah he is!!!1

  • duhh dont you know it!

  • fuck fuck fuck

  • "more housing developments go up..named after the things theyve replaced." Brilliant.

  • everything they do is brilliant!

  • @John190x so welcome to meadowbrook and welcome to shady space.

  • @John190x Can you explain what this quote means to you?

  • @MrJowilson9 If I may offer my own reply, humanity tears the earth up to suit its own purposes and then does things like "naming housing developments... after the things they replace" in a manner that is just as insulting to what the place once was as not naming it in such a way at all. IMOHO

  • i frying to this song

  • This song is great, it's definitely one of my favorites.

  • I just bought this CD. : )

  • uhh i bout lonesmoe crowded west even though i already had most of the album on my ipod no i got to save up for this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about dangit oh well

  • MM has that effect on people :)

  • changed my life

  • Is the quality a lot better on the CD?

  • favorite mm song

    TV STAINED MY MEMORIES!

  • so much passion. this is one of the best albums ever recorded imo.

  • one of thier best songs!!

  • i prefer the interstate 8 version, but this is still an awesome song

  • Listen to the lyrics. They are what count. You can't evaluate a song, a piece of the soul, in two words.

  • While I agree that Triangletheorytrey was wrong in his two word assessment, I do think that lyrics matter just a little bit less than music. Like, music/vocals matter 60%, lyrics matter 40%.

  • I think it depends on how the song was written. Some songs start with lyrics and end with music, some start with the music and end with the lyrics. The first one is always the 60%.

  • I think all of Modest Mouse's songs, the lyrics matter 70%.

  • Dramamine begs to differ. Though the lyrics are still awesome in my oppinion, the actual music clearly gives the song all of its emotion and meaning.

  • Not really... I really pay attention to the lyrics in that song.. the instruments just make the lyrics sound better.

  • Really? But the song is only like 30 seconds to a minute of singing and its almost a 6 minute song. But that's the beauty of music, the meanings/feelings are different to each person and it's all open to interpretation. Regardless though, Modest Mouse if simply awesome.

  • Well, I think the instruments set up the singing which make the singing even better. But, it's all great.

  • If I can join this discussion, I agree with frog for dramamine and a majority of their old stuff, since they really have great instrumentals and I don't think it features the melody in the vocal part like some of their new stuff does.. I see what your saying though since Isaac does write great lyrics

  • You can't seriously tell me that stuff on the Lonesome Crowded west album doesn't have a great melody of lyrics..

  • i dont think the lyrics matter at all lol, like maybe 10% at most. i think they just write music to write music, jsut make cool sounding shit, not super meaningful stuff

  • Lol.. Isaac writes the songs pretty well, much better than the music. I mean seriously, look at Doin' The Cockroach, he isn't actually talking about Doing a Cockroach! Haha.

  • haha, in my opinion, vocals are jsut anotehr instrument, so if the lyrics sound good with the music, its more important then actual meaning, imo...

  • Eh, I think meaning > lyrics lol.

  • Lyrics are meaning if you think about it... I mean it gives the song the elements for it to have meaning (singing wise)

  • Yeah, that's true. But I mean that the meaning behind the lyrics are better than the lyrics alone.

  • there needs to be a balance of both...

  • dude a song isnt the same without vocals if it has vocals mostly instrumental but isaac places the vocals so perfectly that it just adds to the harmony

  • I like how it goes sad to happy.

  • kinda like 'trailer trash'. two of my favorite songs, actually, from them and from anyone.

  • it actually says welcome to meadowbrook that is a housing development outside of there home town

  • I live in Northern New England.....these lyrics are on the money......"more housing developments go up named after the things they replace". and I don't like the change of pace either!

  • same thing is happening near my hometown. There's just too many people...fucking. and having kids.

I don't like this change of pace.

  • At least you don't live in an overcrowded 3rd world country..... yet.

  • still one of my fave modest mouse tracks
