  • Amazing book of bravery, suffering, and life during Katrina. It brought up a darker side to our government officials (police, National Guard, etc., politicians) and shows how one-sided the government can be. It personally made me realize how one small act of kindness can truly make a difference in someone's life.

  • The book intentionally misleads readers into believing Zeitoun was arrested because of his ethnicity. Many people were arrested and treated terribly and some people were held for MONTHS in prison before there were found. Also, much of Zeitoun's story about the flood doesn't make sense. I was extremely disappointed and even angry that the story was manipulative. Sorry. I even wrote to Eggers-no response back.

  • Dave Eggers is a hero, too. Big brother, friend, great writer - thanks for the lessons, Dave!

  • This remarkable story is truly one of the best I've heard!

This man, Zeitoun, really touched my heart with his bravery

and heroism towards his community. I have appreciated this book

and I feel like I am a changed woman!Awesome book!!
