I'm a keyboard player AND amateur astronomer. Its funny that the link between music and astronomy seems (on the face of it) non-existant. After all, there is no sound in space in the conventional sense. But many astronomers are also musicians - I wonder why (rhetorical question!)
@neil73: Nice question! Hmm. Maybe it's because music is somehow able to express the grandeur and emotional weight of life and the universe, in a way math can't.
Brain's 63 today and he doesn't even look it! He has aged very well in the years,I think he's still beautiful and amazing. He's drop dead gorgeous, now and 4 ever. He's truly a wonderful human being. The Greatest Guitarist In History...Mr.Brian Harold May!!! He's going to be 64 in 17 days, and he'll get more beautiful everyday. How's that even possible?!
Just imagine, people had always dreamed about flying to space. And we managed it, thanks to our scientists. Thank you Garik, Brian and others for organising it.
Stellar acoustic waves, starquakes in neutron star crusts, convection driven waves...these are all really exciting and developing fields, and it would have been nice to listen to the speaker May intruduces. But I don't suppose that's why we're watching this!
Brian got Freddie Mercury interested in astronomy, but I think Freddie misunderstood Brian when Brian said to Freddie that he was interested in uranus
Dr Brian, Given that you took many stereoscopic photos of Queen over the years, can we expect to see a 3D book on that subject in the future. Hope so.
@freddiemercification Age means nothing if you've still got talent that you can unleash at any time. And from the looks of things, Brian May has much left in him.
Brian is one of those rare people with a huge emotional, intellectual, and artistic capacity who's dedicated himself to serving others and giving back to humanity. We're very lucky to have him with us!
Dear Brian, you're such a great inspiration for me, I want to say to you thanks for this, because every time I see you I feel like I'm not in this world, I don't have words to tell you how happy you make me feel. I love you Bri.
The stars do make music, I've listened to three different songs made by them, 'translated' using a mathematical wave function. They're not like human music of course, but do have some familiar sounds which are recognizable in old SF shows (I wonder how that happened?). The Sun rings like a bell, too.
I don't know of too many people who can take a simple introduction speech and turn it into something to think about, but you did, Dr. May. Thank you for that - and thank you for posting this.

@TachieBillano True enough - The music of the spheres is a cliche that springs to mind when linking the subjects together!

Brian is such a good straight forward intellectual - a rare breed. My photo with him last year at the Met in NYC was amazing for me. Thank you Brian
