Once you start spinning your wheels, you are simply melting and tossing the ice/snow to make the hole you are in deeper. You must stop when you feel your tires spin even a little. Slow on the accelerator. Once you start spinning, stop. Break. Put in reverse, and back up to try again. If stuck, rock the vehicle gently without tires spinning between Reverse and drive.

I recall assorted tyrespin marks on craggy earth & grass at my elementary school way back. Some mommy-driven taxis'd spin their tyres on the wide, rutted road shoulder pulling away if a wheel caught in a rut. Sloppily impatient pedalwork...

stupid women like that get the rest of use women drivers a bad name. She was never going to get anywhere with those revs U use the highest gear possible with the least amount of revs possible to start the momentum going then just keep it at that. And before any bright spark asks what do I know about it I have been driving buses and coaches (both manual and auto) for 14 years and never as yet got stuck

@vivaharshad yes, it does. It makes the tire have more surface area to grip the ice and snow. They do that with vehicles in antartic to help them get through the terrain. Good question. :)
