The reason you teleported to the top of the screen is because of tile 1F0. This tile is glitched, and for some reason, will teleport you to the top of the screen if it was the last thing you touched before you fell in a pit. Also, if tile 1F0 comes into contact with a sprite other than Mario, it will retain its x speed and slide across the tile.

The glitch at 8:31 actually occurs when a wall springboard is located at the very top of the screen and Mario falls into a hole that is located directly beneath it. raocow also encountered this glitch in Super Mario Omega in the level Icicle Caverns 3 just after the mid-point, when he fell into a hole that I had marked with a coin so that people would find the glitch. Some people may remember that back then he referred to the glitch as "plantaporting".

I just used Lunar Magic to try both methods myself. I can get the "plantaporting" glitch to occur with a wall springboard at the top of the screen, but not with tile 1F0 (Mario just falls and dies like normal).
