@TrueTalkTV i think its becuase they were using radial mics which only pick up and record stage sound (monitors and mics) so the front of house sound is barely audible. its quite a common problem from this era, a lot of rock/hip hop shows that were released from this time suffer from it. its good if you just wanna see them perform but not if you wanna get the experience of them in concert. Despite outdated recording and low sound quality, they still sound fuckin awesome!
I'm going to assume that they did an "off-the-board" recording. Meaning that they recording what was coming off of the mics, in addition to the instrumental tracks. Any part of the audience you'd hear would be them bleeding into the mics -- so, if anything, the crowd was substantially loud if they could be heard from the mics on stage.
