Indians are a stupid people that is incapable of doing anything up to standard. What they manage to build looks inferior and backward. Most of their projects are on hold. Their builders delay projects, build inferior buildings and run up cost. Foreign companies know how stupid and backward indians are so they grasp as much money they can and provide shitty services. The whiteman fooled the indians and grabed their money. Meanwhile 800 million indians are starving. India cities look like garbage.

@drgarga do you want development or do you want people to keep farming? look at china. they brought millions out of agriculture and into industry. today, india has millions of surplus labour in agriculture (3 people are doing one man's job on the farm). we need to get these people into factories. only way to do it is to build more factories (even if it means displacing some people from their land).
its had idiot jyoti basu nagar finance hub gonna be the largest in india construction has already started kolkata houses the tallest projects in india after mumbai
I heard about infrastructure development and a bunch of highrise residential projects that are just as ugly as every other residential building in the country - but none of these highrise commercial projects, or that awesome bridge
@supersan16 kolkata planned sky scrapers are way better dan india's and all other indian cities except mumbai dun have ne sky scrapers ..calcuitta have some mumbai leads followed by calcutta and none gt ne thing
@sethrajat1983 construction already started at jyothi basu nagar financial hub its gonna be india's second financial hub after kurla in mumbai :) proud to be indian
This looks awesome. I hope the Bengal government looks at this seriously and develops it. It will inspire other governments to do the same. Great news !
along with the obvious victorian (british type) architecture, Art Deco was a very popular style of architecture in calcutta (and even bombay) durring the 60s and 70s ..if you google "art deco architecture' and click on 'images' ...you'll realize a lot those buildings look like old kolkata or mumbai buildings, that are still very much around, and appreciated. (like the old buildings on marine drive, mumbai; metro cinema etc, kolkata)

@tourkolkata dhoor boka ..no such thing as "bengali' architecture ..name one building (it's either all british, or post-modern/retro (70s style), or modern indian architecture ....that's like saying 'punjabi' archetecture ..is there any such thing?
@vjt9 Have you ever had the chance of visiting Kolkata? If you did you would know what I mean. Modern Bengali Architecture is very unique and you will only find buildings like ITC Sonar, Uniworld City, the new airport, in Bengal only.
Modern Bengali Architecture is defined by sharp angled lines: Lines running either vertically or horizontally in repeated manner. Also corners are more acute than usual. Modern Bengali Architecture also includes Bengal-specific garden.
@tourkolkata my friend ...i live in kolkata! ...the architecture that you are describing as Bengali architecture ...like Sonar Bangla ...is not Bengali ...it it reminiscent of what in Architecture Study as the "Post-Mordern" or "Retro" architecture ..for eg AC Market on theater road is a 'retro design building' not bengali architecture building. If you formally study architecture ..you will realize that there is No such thing as "modern bengali architecture" ...ask an architect ..if you like!
@vjt9 and oh, if you go to Sector V, you will find many new office buildings built in Bengali style. Very industrial and very modern with sharp edges and linear modules.
P.S: not every state or region can have their own architecture. you know very well why Bengalis don't follow that trend.
@tourkolkata i think , rather than telling me to visit kolkata, you shoud try and get out and visit some other places ...you will realize that these vertical, horizontal lines you are talking about can be found everywhere outside cal also. in fact nether of the buildings you mentioned (itc, uniworld, especially the new airport, sector 5 etc) were even designed in Bengal ..yes, they were ALL designed by non-bengalis ..sorry.
@vjt9 I don't need to go out of kolkata to know about the world..in case you forgot that we gave birth to the travel industry and literature.
anyway, buildings don't have to built by Bengalis to become Bengali architecture. The style is Bengali. The German firm who designed the airport said so themselves, that the design will be inspired by Bengali architecture.
ITC Sonar, was however, designed by a group of Bengali Architects working for a foreign firm.
@vjt9 there is nothin called bengali oriya or gujrati or marathi acrchitechure kolkata resembles a image of colonal legacy may be it got its own charm in its own architechure just like every city if this project gonna happen it will be good for imporoveing the status of whole india and i think every one should be happy reguardless fighting aginst for languages or their own cities
@mileycat92 : thats exactly my point. i'm trying to make this gentleman understand that just because he's seen all these building in cal ....he calls it "bangali" architecture .....when you talk about Architecture ...you should talk about architecture ...not bengali and marathi and gujarati ......because these words have nothing to do with the study of architecture !!
@vjt9 they were not designed by indians not only non bengalis they were ordered by govt of wb (bengalis) to chinese engineering farms most of theam are 40 to 50 storeys under the flagships of bengal unitech by by chinees engineers
@mileycat92 : there are a lot of very good Indian architects working in India and abroad (even in China) ...who constantly design stuff like this. We are talking about the form of architecture ..not the nationality of the architects, or their religion, or what they eat for breakfast. ...just the Type of Architecture.
