@spongebo13 You need a firearms Licence , which is a bigger Pain in the ass to get than a Shotgun certificate ,, the crap thing is you can buy Black powder Revolvers in France without any licence ,, yet we are all ment to be Europeans ,, makes me sick at times ,,
Wild Bill used Colt Navy revolvers...a .36 caliber gun, not a .44. How can it be a faithfully detailed reproduction if it's not a faithfully detailed reproduction?
@hogleg details man, unimportant tiny details, but cant you feel the historical value of this pice of modern junk? no? me neither but they say it is there and they never tell bullshit in a commercial.....
I'd like to get one of these. But I don't see them on the Sportsman's Guide. Any idea where I can get this? I've got the Army .44, but this one looks really nice!
I dont understand why in same cases (like at 0:50 for example) the gun has not recoil. Is it perhaps loaded only with powder to remove oil from barrel and nipples? (i am not english so i dont understand well the comment)
Unfortunately history knowlegde and general education is not the strength for most of the american people. And do not underestimate the number of very young people on the internet. Then you have to combine all three: young, simple minds and almost without any general knowlegde, hehe.
I like the fact that everybody assumes the Ol' West was very violent, when it really wasn't. Billy the Kid's total recorded kill count was 4, and the Gunfight at the OK Corral had a body count of 3, which was the most violent year in the history of Tombstone, Arizona. So you had a pretty slim chance of being gunned down in the street by bandits, but cholera and smallpox would get you instead :p
@Fertro how do you figure it wasn't violent? Of course it was. The Earps were fighting an entire gang of badass oulaws "the cowboys" um - I forget what the gang was called but they were led by th eclantons and . earps brother was killed and then the earps went aroudn murdering loads of other peoplel. "kids kill count was 4" uh - 4 is A LOT plus there werre loads of other people killed in the Lincoln county war
@IkilledassholeJFK LOL the Earps were a gang of outlaws and badasses... and up in Wyoming the Rich Cattle barons called in the Natiional Guard/Pinkertons/ and Tom Horn to help kill settlers and homesteaders and prositutes and anyone they didn't like. That they felt were using too much of the free land they were using...
@MrSanteeclaus there is little evidence of the earps being corrupt. there is little to no evidence of them being outlaws - just the opposite. For the most part - they represented the good. so what if the cattle barons hired people to kill rustlers. what of of it? you need to educate yourself on the Earp/Cowboy issue. it is generally known and understood that the outlaw faction represented by the clantons and curly bill were corrupt thieves and murderers
The 1851 Navy is the best-handling, most graceful pistol I have ever fired. This likely was the pistol Wild Bill used in 1865, during the sole recorded example of the fast-draw duel-in-the-street. Wild Bill shot the other guy through the heart at 50 yards...
@DaGluestickofdoom I'm confused here... Do you not know what black powder is, or are confused about only loading it with 2 grains (which really is a very insignificant amount compared to most loads)?
Black powder is 'gunpowder'. Just the type of gunpowder most common in the 1800s. Most black powder revolvers require that you load powder and a lead ball into the chambers, and place a percussion cap that the hammer strikes to spark the powder.
Hicock's Colts were were Richard Mason conversions that fired a .38 caliber cartridge. He used many different guns in different calibers, but upgraded to the .38 before going to Deadwood.
@AILDdrums No no Cabelas has some very nice black powder revolvers that are built to todays firearm standards your pistol will last a life time if takin care of. Parts are also cheap to buy not that I would think you will need them. But you can get a replacement parts kit with all internal moving parts & have everything you need just in case.
@25ghr From No, they were not Converted Revolvers. In fact there is one little interesting fact about "Wild Bill" that proves this. He was well known for going out and firing his Revolvers every morning to make sure each was freashly reloaded for the day in case any moisture or other problem crept into his guns. He wanted to make sure that they worked every time he pulled the trigger. This is only done with Cap&ball revolvers.
@powertrust71 Navy Revolvers were famous for their balance. In fact, compared to todays short semi-autos, the longer barrel length distributes the weight farther out wich makes it easier to hold the weapon steady due to some resistance. Even in rifles today, a slightly barrel heavy rifle is known to be better balancing and more controllable for offhand shooting than a paper thin barrel with no weight.
Nothing Navy 1851 was made in Cal:44 and the big 44 Zylinder from the Army 1860...this modern Fantasy Colts...the Original Hickock Pair was Nickelplated engraved and have Ivoryn Grips with the halfplastic Shild&Eagle Motiv ...not with Cards
No one knows what cards Wild Bill had when he was shot.. it was brought in the newspapers several days after his murder, and by sources that werent present at the killing.
@TrustyJam I've got three conflicting sources, one being the Gunfighter's Encyclopedia which says Aces and 8's. Then there's the World War 2 channel (ambiguously known as the History Channel) that said the game was Hold'em poker (which might be accurate since 5 card draw wasn't played much until after World War 1) and said he had Ace of Spades and King of Hearts and the Encyclopedia of Firearms suggest Ace of Hearts and a 9 of Clubs. Either way, all sources said that they were all winning hands.
@Nurple17 If I remember right from my own research it was 5 card stud he was playing. And the Hand in question was Aces and Eights. That is why it is called a dead man's hand today for that reason. Here is an interesting bit of info though. When Hiccock went in, he always sat facing the door. That day a young man was in his seat and having a winning streak. The players chided him about wanting to have the seats moved, so he sat with his back to the door. Food for thought.
@RickOShaye actually the idea he carried a 44 is a mixup with a gun he carried in deadwood, there's some eyewitness accounts that toward the end of his life, he switched his brace of colt 36s for a colt richards type 1 army 44 cartridge conversion. but yeah, the ad is very misleading on that.
The .36 Cal 1851 Navy was also carried by Maj. Gen G.A. Custer. Old Wild Bill put many a man down with it. It had about the same power as today's .380 auto. That's enough to get the job done. Hell, try a .22LR to the head or heart. You'll be dead as "fried chicken."
I agree. I too would prefer to have the accurate caliber, but some people really believe that "bigger is better" and prefer the larger load. Never mind that Wild Bill made his famous kills with the "underpowered" .36 cal.
It's all about sales. If it weren't for CAS and History buffs, I don't think we would even see the .36 on the market.
The black rammer is also a little strange looking...

ekajeht 1 year ago
@ekajeht actually a later more streamline model was made in .44.
soixe1997 1 year ago
@soixe1997 The streamlined model was made in 1860 and was known as the 1860 Army with the grip 1/4" longer than the Navy grip frame.
In 1861 they made the same streamlined revolver in 36cal. with the Navy grip and it was called the 61navy.
Most revolvers of the Civil War were classed as Army or Navy by their caliber.
44 being Army and 36 being called Navy models.
BTW-It didn't really matter what cal they were,, both services used both calibers.
