Does anyone know if their sudden change in direction from the electric guitar governed rocky repertoire to the baroque folk repertoire they became famous with was a conscious step and if so a commercial or artistic one? Did some producer whisper these guys in the ear they should switch? Or was this just a deepening into the authentic identity of the band that was waiting to happen?
@MondayMeadows I think it was the line up change, they probably bonded over a common ground, more of the baroque folk. J.Tillman was probably a pretty huge influence as well. I dig both sounds. I think it would be pretty cool if they did this song as an encore or something.
@Bluesmen88 For this lineup, obviously they had Robin and Skylar, but were any of the other current members there? I know that Tillman joined after they recorded both the album and Sun Giant, but it seems that Cristian Wargo and maybe Casey Wescott weren't in the band at this time either (I don't see a keyboard player here at all...)
@mabewa Robin was the keyboard player before they got Casey Wescott (the current keyboard player), but Robin only actually played some of the songs on keyboard.
@MondayMeadows Robin has said in interviews that the change happened so that there wouldn't be one "lead singer" but instead included every member of the band. He even said that the song which spurred the change was "Quiet Houses". You can read about it in the interview titled "Fleet Foxes on their rising fame", just search for it on google.
I wouldn't be too worried, many people I talk to that are music inclined think they are very talented and are incredible muscians. And as far as money, there probably doing pretty well, there LP is selling pretty well for a first album, and there signed to a major label.
This was on an indie record label (Bella or something like that...), so I believe it's up to that label to give rights to iTunes. It's a shame, I kind of dig this FF more.
Actually it wasn't released on Bella Union ("Sun Giant" was released on Bella Union and Sub Pop Records), they sold this song on a demo EP around 2006 before they were very famous.
It was on a rare demo EP that they released only about 200 copies of around the Seattle area. This was back in 2006, before "Sun Giant" and their "Fleet Foxes" album.
@dumpmasterflash It's from their 2006 demo EP release just titled "Fleet Foxes", before they were picked up by a record label. About 200 hard copies of the demo EP were sold but all of the songs from it are available for download online.

this is my favorite band, and they're showed no vital attention. :[ they make beautiful music, and should be making so much more money :[

These guys look so different then the other images and videos I've seen of them. Their first EP is so good, I wish it got more attention.
