I thought it sounded like I Hugh Tracey, but I don't remember ever seeing them with brass colored tines. Yes it can be called Kalimba, Karimba,Marimba, Mbira, Lemulla, Lemellaphone ,Likembe, Thumb piano, Thumb drum, I might even be missing some. This instrument has been around for a really long time, used by many cultures, not just in Africa, and it seems to have picked up a new name with every culture. Thanks for the super quick reply. I'll have to go to Kalimbamagic and see which one it is.

This particular model has 17 tines arranged in two rows. I believe it is also called a Karimba. The store had some which were tuned using traditional African turning, but I bought this one as it was tuned to a western scale. See the "kalimbamagic" website for further on models and scales.

Also, the last sentence should end "for further INFO on models and scales. ;-)
