CCW 2.291: Incredible Hercules #138 REVIEW

So I was watching this again and I wonder if anyone notices the death of Hercules to the shift in perceptions towards combat, what kind of hero is needed in this world, etc and so forth. Maybe Pak has battles go this way on purpose to go out gracefully. Pretty much all the Hercules arcs have been rather easy victories. Because they are just challenges for a hero/demigod. Consequences don't exist. Or didn't.

True, you don't play favourites, but you do play anti-favorites: Bendis, Loeb and Tony Daniel come to mind.

By the way, besides being ugly and boring, that "also featuring the Agents of Atlas" blurb is also misleading, because it could lead you to believe that the AoA are guest stars in the actual Assault on New Olympus story.

Not true. If Bendis, Loeb or Daniel create something we like, we will praise it. We've praised Bendis in the past and in an upcoming segment, we will again.

Nice to see you guys reviewing Herc - one of my favourite books for sure. Can remember seeing a review of it on here before - the Thorcules arc was just pure fun.

Anyway - that's not what got me to comment. I just want to know what is going on there with Jose's shirt. You can't go around wearing a Man United shirt one week and then just switch to wearing a Liverpool one - that's just not done. It's wrong on about six different levels... wars have been started for less.

He he. I know, I know. People have commented on that before. I am well aware that in the UK this is serious business but living in the US though nobody around here cares about such things. They're to busy caring about their shitty American sports.

I like Liverpool and have had their kit longer. I bought the Man U kit when they played in Chicago against Bayern Munich. I felt the need to support an English team so that's why I have the Man U kit.

At least it's not a Chelsea kit, right?

U guys should review Siege: the Cabal. I thought it was great. I've been loving the whole Dark Reign thing and the current state of the Marvel Universe. Oh and by the way I like Bendis and Secret Invasion. Can't wait until Siege.

The renumbering is silly and useless. Why couldn't Hercules just get his OWN book instead of Hulk's?

When you end a series and restart it, it's a NEW series and they should respect that.

Not gonna happen. He writes Marvel's top selling books. He has a loyal following. Marvel would be stupid to take him off the books as long as he's willing to write them. Not saying I agree with it, but those are just the facts.

Good review. Its good to have reviewers that don't choose favorites. Also on the whole numbering apparently DC is doing it with Wonder woman. Thoughts?

It's a bit annoying, to be honest. But DC hasn't done the whole renumbering thing to the extent that Marvel has. And in some cases, Marvel has been a bit dishonest about it. Captain America HAS NOT had 600 issues. You'd have to count all those issues of Tales of Suspense that he appeared in, and even then it's not enough.

On the issue of you guys reviewing more DC than Marvel. Marvel seems like it's in a real funk right now. If one brand kind of sucks at the moment but the other is pretty good right now It's kind of nice that you guys spend more time reviewing the better of the two.

Incredible Herc and Incredible Hulk are the only two I've been able to enjoy lately. I think it's because they're not involved in the "events" at the moment.

I loved Van Lente's work on Marvel Zombies 4. We gave him mad props when we reviewed the book a few months ago. Not so crazy about his ASM stint with the Chameleon, though.

This is really one of the good books that Marvel publishing. "Hercules", "Nova", "Guardians of the Galaxy", "Moon Knight", good books all.

And you make a good point about New Avengers/DBZ, Jose.

Too many mix ups with the titles (Hulk wise) and the renumbering...which gets fixed when they hit 600 I guess lol. I could never get into Hercules, also after Siege rumors are the original Avengers are coming back ^_^
