  • OK, first of all I have read INFO and few pages of comments. I have next problem:

I follow instructions all the time, everything is fine. But when I'm supposed to save movie at the end, it has 5.5GB and original .AVI file has 700MB?!

How's that possible? I wanted to upload video to YT, but I can't wait 3 days to upload 5.5GB...

    Any suggestions?

  • okay, i did exactly the same thing like you did. but when i try to save the new .avi file, it doesn't convert or something. when i go to the map where i saved the avi file, the new video is only 10KB. help please!!

  • Uhm, when I'm creating a new AVI with sub added. The file is too big!! There's a way to compressed it or to lessen the file size? Sorry I'm just new here in PC softwares..

    What Can I Do?

    Please Help!!!!

  • in part 2 appeared to me in this kind of text

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknow)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to

decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows

Media Player, are not suitable" What do I do, please help me.. ;D

  • my subtitles are "aoa" thing.

    my languange is greek :)

    what can i do?

  • @elmanmasraro I did it an it all works fine but the subtitles are not synchronized with the video. any ideas on how to fix that?

  • This guide is perfect!

  • I don't have a Video for Windows compatible codec so I downloaded the codec from the link you put in the description(XviD codec v1.3.2 for Windows), but when I try to install it IS says "it has no VFS data to sturt up" what should I do?

  • what link of conversor?????

  • Dude, if you come to Serbia, you got one more beer! :) It meant, we'll get you drunk :)) ok, about video, thanks, but I need more options: I would like to move the subtitles much higher. Also, I need to cover the old Spanish (already hardcoded) subtitles with new one, Serbian, so I need a fix for that, maybe a kind of black background that would cover up the old subs.

    Any suggestions?

  • guys, i have recently realized that you'll need to setup the virtualdub 32-bit version, even if your computer is 64-bit. Otherwise, the program does not accept the subtitler.vdf.

  • will the subtitles stay if I upload the video online?

I've been using submux to add subtitles to a video, and locally it was working fine but when i upload it on videobb.com it isn't showing the subs :S

  • what if the video is in mp4 format? is it possible that it will also run in the virtualdub??

  • hello! can i ask what if "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'H264' ?? what should i do? thanks! :)

  • Its coming couldn't locate decrompressor (XVID) :/

  • @TheProprat i had the same issue an hour ago. google ffdshow download and download it from the free-codecs site

  • what is your settings? i only have 1 video and it doesnt show the subtitles :(

  • Thx, very helpfull .. And did the job well !

  • a very good tutorial. thank you so much

  • it worked out pretty fine for me, except for one thing, the video's size increased from 1.2GB to 93 GB wtf s:

  • @biykoz the .vdf file is really important.i think you miss that step....wacht 1:30

  • @biykoz thats because you have not set it on XVID compression.. if the video is not compressed it will be massive file size. in virtual dub... goto Video then compression then select XVID or DIVX etc then click ok, but also make sure it is set on full stream processing.. direct stream copy will not add any titles filters etc etc

  • .vdf" %1 is not a valid win32 application?

  • @TheWOWXDWOW Same here, when i click on video/filter/load then subtitler.vdf it pops up another window tht says that

  • THANKS MAN!!!! I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR AGES, AND THAN I SAW THIS VIDEO, TNX

  • thank you.

  • no, its a program, you need to download it:) try searching on torrentz.eu

  • Thank you!

  • hey dude, i have a problem...how can i change the speed of subtitle?..it appears faster than the move of casts' lips?..pls. help me ..tnx :)

  • @TheAriesians you can use Time Adjuster :)

  • @DarkM0vie where i can see that time adjuster in virtualdub?..in video?audio?..where exactly it is?..tnx man:)

  • @TheAriesians its a different program:) search it on torrentz.eu

  • Dude thank you a lot ! I dont know you but when I see you I will buy you a beer . :D <3

  • @srbin831 Hahahahaha looking forward to it, bro! :D

  • @elmanmasraro you matt? cum at me bro

  • @srbin831 or a blunt lol

  • @srbin831 citam ovo sa pivom i odma zakljkucujem pa ovo je srbin 100 posto =DD

  • @CoaZP Dobro zaključuješ :DDD

  • ignore my last comment got it all fix

  • How do you get you're Xvid MPEG- 4 Codec inside the compression box I download Xvid ,also

  • i cannot comprese my video to XVID..the format don't appear.help me

  • it says when i convert to ssa "input file error, subtitle error " and when i import vid it says" coudnt locate decompresser for format 'xvid ' uinknown virtual dub requires video for windows (vfw)compatible to decomprss vid . direct show codecs such as those used by windows media player r not suitable"

  • thanks...it was helpful...:)

  • I have the same problem as jojosicecep, when I try to convert the subs from srt to ssa, I get the "input file error, subtitle # 1", I click ok and it says Job finished. I can find the ssa file , but when I load it in virtual dub, the subs don't appear at all. Do you know why?

  • @sofro07 That means that subtitle # 1 is missing from the subtitles file. Since you can't possibly know what that subtitle was, you should either a) download another subtitle or b) open the subtitle file in NotePad and type something to fill in the missing space, such as a coma or a period. It should be in the proper format, though. Try to figure it out using the other subtitle lines as a guide.

  • @elmanmasraro My .ssa subtitles are not showing up either but I don't get an error message. Any thoughts on that?

  • @sofro07

Open Search Programs and Files in Start menu> print "ssa" > drag file to desktop

  • THIS IS GREAT BUT! my original video is NOT in avi. its in mp4. That means i have to convert to avi put on subs then convert back to mp4 HOW FUCKING LONG IS THAT GOING TO TAKE!! I'd rather buy the movie. isn't there a faster way?

  • what if there's 2 ssa files? =O

  • i've got a problem

when i put my avi/xvid file in virtualdub because it gives a error:

couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)

/ the same for 'DIVX' (DivX 4+)

requires a video for windows compatible codec

  • I tried your guide and it works great. Do you know, why I get an error trying to at the Subtitle.vdf file, if I choose the 64bit version if VirtualDub? I can only make your guide work if I use the 32 bit version, cause else I can't add the subtitle filter. Great tutorial however, and thank you very much for making this.

  • what if the subtitle is zip?

  • @Maggot7447 You have to Unzip it. Use a program like WinRar, WinZip or 7-Zip. Look them up on Google.

  • @elmanmasraro ok thank you

  • Wooooooo Thankyou Thankyou Very Much Bro :))

  • VirtualDub didnt Work at all.. shitty program.. spent 2,5 hours getting throug.

  • after i did everything, the video became black and black, the I can listen to it...what happened?

  • @svchadwfy easy peasy guys.....just stop watching this vids..... first download 7zip

    then installs it

after that download the subtitle according the movie you want..my opinion go to (movie subtitle . o r g) remove all the space...next download the file

bear in mind that the file isnt in srt format yet..so your job now just unzip the folder using the 7zip that u just downloaded..only then the srt file will appear...

    goodluck...

  • Pls help, I can't open my video with open video file in virtualdub...

I downloaded my video with .mp4 type but I've already changed it to .avi by rename it. I've made a subtitle for my video but when I wanted to open my video in Virtualdub, it said "The file (name of the video) is of an unknown or unsupported file type". Why is that?

  • @FrozenSoul2610 You can't just rename a .mp4 file to an .avi file. It doesn't work that way; compatibility is fucked up. You'll have to convert the video using video converting software. I recommend Any Video Converter cus it's free. Google it and you'll see.

  • thank you sooo much

  • I can't find the 'subtitler.vdf'. Do you know where it is saved?

  • DONT work with Greek Subtitles . OMG

  • @zagna afto pou tha elega..... th prospathisw omws na kanw tous ypotitlous greeklish :/

  • DUDE IF THIS WORKS IMA KISS YOU'RE BUTT! ive been trying for weeks!

  • Good jib man . Thank you! :)

  • why does a 40 min video ,have 30GB

  • @file69x you maybe forgot the compression process..

when you have added your subtitles in the movie using the subtitler filter, go to video>compression ( xVid usually) and click ok. it's on 2:12 in the video.

    then save as avi.

  • @file69x u forgot the compression process

  • something wrong here, when its finished, i only get audio and no visual of the movie, any ideas why this happens? 5 hours into it and nothing...damn.
