If you love Kerouac like I do, check out my new book Road Trippn' (by Sean McLaughlin), a tribute to Jack; youth; Freedom; Love; God; sex, drugs, rock'n'roll and America set across the country and culminating in the streets of NYC, a month prior to the attacks of 9/11. Check it out at Amazon.com and support another working class artist from one of America's other former industrial glory towns - Cleveland this carnation around instead of Lowell.
Haunting. In my 50's now and these guys seem a contradiction to me now more than the heroes of my 20's.They led what seemed carefree lives with a spirit of exploration but with what I've learned of people they also seem so haunted ,which is born out in their rampant excesses.I love their willingness to take on life but also see them running from it at times as well.Conformity still doesn't interest me but I've also found that stability gives greater joy than chaos.Tried both. What messes we are.
can someone explain this to me I read "on the road the original scroll" and it said the real names like jack kerouac and neal cassidy not sal paridise and dean moriaty. I hope i didnt read the edited version.
He originally wrote it on a scroll with all the people's real names. Then afterwords, went back and dropped in the made up names, and made other edits.
I really want to read this book... I read on the road and it changed my life. I can't seem to find this book anywhere tho. I live in Mexico and here it's nearly impossible to find. And if you find it it's probably a shitty translation from spain... u.u
If Erasures music can Gel so well with sights that were photographed over four decades ago, doesn`t it tell you that history repeats itself, and that nothings new under the Sun ?. Cool is Cool , no matter what generation or year it is - just some people are way cooler than others, lol.
that was amazingly pedantic.... i crossed my entire country (mexico) thinking about the beatnicks, and they aren't mexicans... you can carry icons in your soul as an inspirations.. it's not about "following steps" dude, its about being inspired... maybe you crossed north america without rusting icons... but im sure you could have had a much better experiencie if you were a little bit less "hippie" and more the sort of a poet as they were
lol i dunno where you got that im a hippie lol im no poet, i dont pretend to be. im just someone who felt the overwhelming urge to travel... and travel on my own terms and nature's. that's it. no romantic bullshit. i did write poems and tons of songs. but im not trying to sell myself as some hitchhiking artist that knows more than the idle people in society. i just think people who want to do it, should. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE as long as youre willing to face the danger and possible death
we share the same heroes. so real, so full of fire, so ebullient but so doomed. thank god there are still people who believe in the quiet rucksack revolution.
@LAwoman95 don't forget Burroughs! he was cool too

it really shows how beautiful life can be when poetic geniuses like these were not only born at the same time, but were close friends

well, it's music that I like, since it's my video. Thanks

What a great video and music too.
I think if Kerouac were around today he'd be bored to tears and disappointed in America today with all the blackberry, soulless bloggy people..
No stunts anymore..

Thanx for the great footage. I wish it had music that they liked however, not sappy pop-folk music.

1940's America has been gone for a while.
If you want to go cross country I'd take closer to a grand than a buck.
It can be done but people don't dig panhandles right now.

It looks to be the beauteous young Carolyn Cassady at 1:32 standing with Neal on a North Beach staircase.

whys that?

I felt sadness for Dean Moriarty (alias Neil Cassady)in On the Road. He was an unreconstituted 'adult child', who never found himself.

Read Tom Wolfe's: The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Cassady's journey continues among Kesey and the Merry Pranksters.
