@ldvickers321 Why don't you ask before you comment? I actually got these from a person who did exactly what you said. They bought pacu b/c they look like piranha.. The fish outgrew their 20 gallon, so I bought a 55 gallon to keep them. After they outgrew my 55 gallon, I split them into pairs and rehomed them to bigger tanks. Thank you for calling me selfish for taking care of the fish that weren't even mine!!
In Chinatown they have about 5 of them in small tanks and the water is always yellow. I saw a dead lobster in a tank right next to it for about a week and this place is a restaurant.
@antdaweeze13 The fish is commonly called a pignose or pigface puffer. The pet store called it a snakehead puffer.. The scientific name (in case you want to research) is tetraodon suvatti.
first, that is severely too small, and sad. a single pacu requires a minimum of a 250 gallon tank with a very good filter system.
and secondly, they're herbivores. they need fruit, veggies, and pellets, not cased animal by products. they'll eat the occasional feeder fish, but atleast that's more natural.
oh, and three, it's "wieners".
those two major flaws are going to kill those fish.
the next life for those nd you who feed live fishes or live animals to their pets-snakeheads, arowana, oscars, gar...will become the live fish or live animal being eaten by a snakehead, etc. nd being filmed for fun at the same time...karma says. haha so it's sad for the snakehead, arowana, gar, oscar keepers. their and your next afterlife is a goldfish, mouse or other small fishes being purchased by another snakehead, etc keeper to feed it to his snakehead, etc.
Depends what type of piranah , and i wouldnt keep it in a tank that small search on google ull get alot of forums threats talking about stuff like that ull learn alot
I dont blame u but ur gonna need atleast a 400gal tank. Hate 2 kill ur wallet, but if u really love them and cant afford a new tank let them off in the wild. Returning them wont work because the store won't have room.
still doesnt matter you should never release a fish back into the wild even if its where it is from the risk is that they could carry foriegn diseases and wipe out whole populations.
agreed, returning them to the wild doesn't solve the problem! Its illegal to release non native animal to the wild, the pacu could easily destroy all the native fish. Unless you are releasing it to its natural wild environment. Please think carefully before commenting!
4 pacu in only a 55 gal they are probly gonna out grow it one might be fine they get 12 - 24 inches i had 1 then i found out how big they got and i didint have the monny for a new tank it died tho so i didint have to worry about it :( but now i have 4 red belly piranha they both are cool fish but and allmost the same only piranha stay smaller and are more violent
Yes, that's what he is.. a tetraodon suvatti. There's a really good article of them on the net, like 3 pages long; helped me out a lot when I had him. :) This may have been before I knew much about him (also goes by pig-nosed puffer).
Please see all my videos. This one is VERY old. I no longer have the pacus- gave them to bigger homes. Yes, you're right. Pacus require 200-300 gallons each to reach full growth. Thanks!
oups!!!!! a so sorry, but a see some people have a fish on a small tank and its too bad..... if you have change your tank, your are a good friend fish......... escuse me for my bad english but je parle francais .....encore désolé
Okay. Thank you; no worries. I think people should be responsible fish and pet owners. I think pet stores should put up signs for pacu: "These fish will grow over 2' long!" Take care! :)
Snakehead puffer is under the pacus in this video; you can see him when the pacus swim off. Puffer is currently in 20 gallon with jewel cichlid (both meateaters).
its a good sized tank but the pacus are scared. if i were you id would feed them a lot so they grow fast and leave the snakehead in there so the pacus lose their fear of it
the fuckin tank is fuckin nrrow

they have lived for like 4 or 5 years man.. i dont really care either cause i posted that 6 months ago..
drewmania5 2 years ago
a- i'm a girl. kthx.
b- 5 years with a lifespan being about 25 years isn't exactly far.. they've grown, and gotten too big, and now they're going to slowly deteriorate.
c- when you posted the comment is completely irrelevant unless they've already died or your uncle put them in a pond. srsly.

richard99th 3 years ago
Do they attack ur puffer??
KarlAnthonySt 3 years ago
No. The pacus never messed with the puffer. These are vegetarians. Some younger pacu go for small fish though.

no offense but are you fucking crazy wtf do you mean return them to the wild thats how the snakehead thing got started.
untipable 3 years ago
Wen i sed return them i ment into their NATURAL HABITAT, that's in like south america, so no, im not #^&*ing crazy.
amitalegaonkar 3 years ago
still doesnt matter you should never release a fish back into the wild even if its where it is from the risk is that they could carry foriegn diseases and wipe out whole populations.
untipable 3 years ago
if you cared for them properly for years, that shouldn't be a problem. If they had disease there would be symptons.
amitalegaonkar 3 years ago
a bacterium is always there even with out symptoms a fish could still be carrying a disease

dude most likely why your pacus are in the corner in a group is cause the water is prob too cold
thats what happens to mine when my waters cold
kutanovski14 4 years ago
u have to add more things in the middle of the tank so that the pacus can swim around. Like tetras, they only hang around the safest place.

looks more like arrowhead puffer
