The Taliban, who are radical Sunnis, do not look favourably on Shiite Muslims (majority of Iran's population), and their treatment of shiite Muslims in Afghanistan has always been condemned by the Iranians. BTW when the US first invaded Afghanistan, the Iranians did offer to help, perhaps they shouldn't have been rejected.

@oSWORDofTRUTHo secondly, iran's government is unstable, faced with civil unrest and stifling sanctions. i don't see a reason why Iranian civilians opposed to their regime should be bombarded, nor a why American soldiers sent to perish in an area as large as Iran, especially when the Iranian military has strategic positions that can increase casualties.
finally, an attack typically has a rally around the flag effect, and would also destroy any social capital the US has on the Iranian streets.
