  • look at that size of that wall... it is MASSIVE! Its much more than R70... Why do they need such insulation ??? Do there is such cold winters in Wales? In terms of insulation this house is total thermos! I love it!

  • Terrific! I love it!

  • I wonder if there was ever a follow up video made of this house, once it was completed.

According to an article in the Independent, this house was due to be demolished in 1997, because the 'planners' (bribe takers, in other words, who work for the building industry, while pretending to work for the council) .

"Officials at Brecon Beacons National Park are worried that the 40ft by 20ft dwelling in the scenic South Wales countryside will open the way to more requests for building."

    How awful...

  • I wonder why we aren't all living in houses that cost only £10,000? Because our land was stolen from us during The Enclosures - a time when traitors among us turned against their own people, forced them off their land at the point of a sword, and then had the cheek to force us to work for THEM, just to stay alive, because we no longer had any land of our own.

  • the history of adobe comes from as far as the spanish coquistadores, Haciendas still standing around mexico and up to the north. In africa it's been used way long before....etc

  • Some of the Nebraska houses are over 100 years with others close to that...with the plaster on the inside and outside these houses last.

Thankfully here in Canada we are able to build these houses under our codes...my straw is bought and the footing goes in this month. I'm really excited to see how much this will cost me and how much I can save with radiant in floor solar heating - no more gas!!!

  • I wonder how long one of these would last? Is there any history on the durability and weathering of straw buildings?

  • @arepasheat Properly built these houses last longer than most frame houses. Wheat or Oat straw tightly packed into 80 to 100 pound bales have an R70 insulation value, are not prone to pests as there is no food value to the straw and will not burn. Once plastered on both sides it is virtually impossible to set them on fire. Some of the straw bale houses in Nebraska are over 100 years old and still inhabitable, others are close to that.
