thanks for the great video, helped alot (had bit of trouble sustaining the double bass pedal hits in immigrant song [led zeppelin])but now its getting easier
nice how your video is to the point, theres too many that talk to much about things that arent really that relevant. or, for some reason, start doing double strokes on the snare and stuff?? lol i dont know why people do that.
that is a great piece of information..,very helpful.
I have been having a hard time getting double strokes on the kick. very frustrating. I'm going to do this exercise.
Please do me one favor though, please change the angle on that mounted tom....it looks like somethimg from a Lars Ulrich nightmare i had about his drummin in the early 80s...scary.
you will get a better stick angle and much better tone if you straighten that thing out. Take a look at Eric Singer's kit.
thank you very much! oh i know, the set up of my old drum kit was horrid, i'm well aware. i hadn't been playing drums for very long when i shot this video, and still had some learning to do about ergonomics around the kit.
i've since gotten a new kit, fixed the tom angles, gotten a new camera and even some new shoes! thanks for the input- good luck with the technique!
yes, it's not really of professional quality, but i wanted to share the knowledge. it's not something that you'd think of when you're trying to develop this technique.
Good video man. In addition, the camera sync problem is a pain, my camera does it too. The only way round I have found is too burn the recording onto DVD, then rip that DVD into the computer.
great explanation. One of the hardest things to explain. Heel toe seems to be the best way to go when doing doubles. I started doing your way a couple days ago and have noticed a difference already. thank you for the help, this way really works. Great vid, please post more! how about a "how-to" on getting the left foot more independent?
Thanks very much for the feedback. I'm glad it's working as well for you as it did for me! I can start to work on more videos if I find something else that I know that most drummers don't haha!
try to just look at what you do when you hit the stroke when your heel is on the way up, then do the exact opposite on the way down. Your foot should be in the same position when the beater makes contact with the head whether you're on the first or second stroke.
hey man. yeah, for the problems with the toms and snare you can tell him to try tightening his back heads (the ones you don't hit), and maybe the front ones too. duct tape also works WONDERS. it's really good for dampening. i have duct tape on my rack tom and floor tom, and no dampening on my snare but the heads are really tight.
as for the bass, i like keeping pillows or blankets resting against both the back head and the front head inside the bass drum. it's a pain to take the heads off and stuff it but trust me it really helps to achieve that *thud* if that's what you're looking for.
hope that helped! let me know if you need anything else
Thanks man for sharing this i've been trying to learn how to do this for years.
