In 1969 I discovered that the moon crawler and Billy worked underwater. Well, for about 12 minutes then they stopped. But it was neat making them drive around 8 feet under water. While it lasted.
i had one, but was disappointed come christmas morning because the plastic dome covering billy and his vehicles that i had seen in the toy shop was only part of the display - that had been the most exciting part of the whole thing for me. sad eh?
Shit, we had more fun throwing dirt clods at each other, or jumping over canals on our stingrays. This toy seems like one of those kinda lame momentarily fun things to play with, then later having more fun destroying .
Yeah led, I agree that a 12 year old probably wouldn't play with this but to a 3-7 year old it would probably be great, I'm sure you'll agree that to a typical 1969 five year old this would be far better to play with then "Being good by sitting still during mommies Stories"
Billy Blastoff walks like he had a "blastoff" IN his spacesuit.

I'm so glad I grew up in the 80s. Toys in the 80s kicked ass unlike this crap!!!

Yes, the ad didn't yell because we WATCHED.
I'll tell you, when I show these ads to my 7 year olds they STOP and pay attention too.
Maybe because they are so different from all of the hyper editing and marketing that they are bombarded with today.

Notice how quiet and slowly paced that commercial was ?
...and It was meant to appeal to KIDS !
This culture simply has NO MORE USE for an attention span.
