i have been having trouble squating and it is painful when i extend my leg all the way out. any tips you can give me or advice would really help because im really scared i mite have torn my meniscus this time instead of just a contusion on my patella.
An Arthroscope is a long tube with a magnifying glass and a light. It's used to get better eyes on what's exactly going on with the affected knee. While the doctor's are in there, they can repair parts of the knee, shave away rugged cartilage, and even remove stray bits of cartilage or bone that might be floating around.
It's a lot like "general maintenance", but for your knee.
I've had this done 4 times on my right knee alone. Twice in just the last 3 months. It's torn again with extreme pain. I'm 23 and hate the pain. I was in the Army and was very active. As this has continued I am unable to anymore. I want to get better I NEED to get better. If anyone knows of a great orthopedic please message me. I want to be active again and be a normal 23 year old girl. I'd love to be able to reenlist.
@USAFSmiley87 -- it hasn't :'(.....they took out all remaining piece's of my meniscus and it's still exscrusiating pain!!!! You'd think after all the surgery's I've had that I may feel better or after at least they took out all reamaining piece's anyway, but it's still horrible!!! I'm so feed up with the pain medication and not being able to be a descent wife although you'll never hear my husband complain. I just want to be off the med's to have a baby :'( HELP ME SOMEONE PLEASE
@ldnashleyp you know, i was searching around YT and I came across something called "Knee replacement". Where they take out the bone mass that makes the knee, and replace it with a metallic copy of a knee. however they also said every 10 years you'll need a new replacement due to the bone decreaing in size or something, they say they recommend it to older people, i guess around 40 - 50 years of age. good luck ash.
On average how long is the recovery period for this surgery? Let's say someone has this surgery next month, will the knee be back at 100% by next September if everything goes well?
I was home from work for 3 months, its just a time thing, no rush, you'll be 100 percent in about 6 months.. trust me. im 40 yrs old and I can still ( after the surgery) squat 400lbs...
I had a injury like this but I only hurt my ligaments not meniscus I guess I was lucky.
I could not play for like two months and had massage treatment only know like after for months I can play and mu knee fells like it did before this is one if not the worst injury a football player can have.
@TheKingOfKingsE i tore my mcl i have to get more checked out next week i hope i havnt done damage to the meniscus i also did the damage playing football may i ask how you hurt yours playing football?
@seankinsellasean well I had the ball I dribbled past the player and then he stuck his foot way to high and i jumped up to escape his foot and i landed with my whole weight on my right foot and it just snapped I could fell the two bones touching each other honestly i never felt that kind of pain in my life.
at first i thought it was broken like my knee was broken but when i looked it was not a break. The doctor said i was lucky because I didn't brake my meniscus but deam it took me 4 months.
@seankinsellasean to be able to play like I did before they were the mos frustraing 4 mothns in my life but know i play without a problem and i actually added another style to my play because I used alot of speed every time but when i was injured i didnt had that so i was forced to learn another style and now I can use my speed better so it was like a bllesing in discuse and now im twice better player than I was before.
but man i hope you get well just do light training and DONT DONT play.
@seankinsellasean And man dont play football because i couldnt wait i tried to play and i broke it the same again and it just made my rehabilitation longer so even though you want to play don't do it wait until your completely ready and go do some professionall massages that was the way I was healed.
I do really hope that you get soon because I know first had a injure like this can do to you.
@TheKingOfKingsE thanks alot! funny thing is i didnt start my game because i sprained by anke two weeks earler and was not 100% fit but i begged my manager to play me for the last 20 mins and the he did, i was running at full speed to tackle a player when i was about to make the tackle he nudged me slightly i lost my balance and my weight came down on my knee which kind of jarred and i felt/heard it pop i jus hope i didnt tear the acl which would require surgury, it was the worse pain of my life
im only 13 and might have torn my menicus my doc said. I did playing soccer! i heard a pop, my heard it form the side lines it was bad!!!!!im getting a mri fri! and i cant bend it straight its hurts alot and swelling is horrific
guys i,m 14 and my knee i can feel the bone rub up against each other a little when i,m sitting down when i put my hand on my kneed but it doesnt do that for the other knee. It hurts a little when i go to balance on one leg then go down a bit. Does this mean i will have ti have surgery because i realy realy really do not want to. Can it be fixed with physical therapy?
got cleated on my right knee last season in soccer, it hasn't been the same since. clicks, pops, and has a small bump near the knee cap. i can't stand for a long period of time and i also can't keep it bent for a long time. after playing soccer it feels stiff and weak. i'm afraid to get it checked out, because i don't wanna be out for my upcoming season, but i'm afraid that if i don't i can further damage it and not be able to play again, what should i do?
@bakerxxemerica I'm not a doctor but there's an universal advice that I can give you. Your HEALTH is worth more than anything else in this world. I have a friend who not only plays soccer but he's also very wealthy and drives a Mercedez to soccer practices but he tells me: "You know, my back is doing great today but when it starts to hurt the sting it's so painful that it completely ruins my whole day." My friend will have that chronic pain forever cause he went to the doc too late.
How do you diagnose this? would an MRI scan diagnose any cartilage damage? I've got an MRI scan due soon and I just hope that it discovers what's wrong my sodding knee.
hey i need some help, im on my high school wrestling team a team went in for a move and i fell wrong and heard a loud popping noise the trainer said it probably has some thing to do with the meniscus but i can still walk on both legs its is in my right knee any ideas? if you help id be so gratefull beacaus eit hurts really bad
it may have been a ligament tear you have, but also you could have damaged your meniscus too. i just went through an ACL tear and partially cracked meniscus surgery a few weeks ago, it really sucks. Get an MRI scan and check out your knee as soon as possible.
i have a meniscus tear in my right knee, i did it playing football.....now im out for the season because i have to go through surgery and physical therapy.......it sucks.....
im terying to find out whats wrong with my left knee, it feels loose but its the bones not the muscle ,im a wrestler and it just started diong that today maybe because i twisted my body too hard but does anyone know whats wrong by the info i gave
ugh, my knees grind whenever i bend them....then again my knees have always done that....when i was 9 i had to do a year of physical therapy for my knees, then again when i was 12,...the second time they thought i had arthritis!
well.....i found out 2 hours ago that i have a meniscus tear!! shocked...... predicted it would happen because i had a bike accident! to treat my knee....doctors gave me medication to heal it and this medication is for a period of 1 month and if it still dosent go then i have to go for a surgery :(!!
I found out today I have a torn meniscus. I hurt it playing football 3 years ago and never got it checked out. Recently it has locking up on me for days at a time.
omg.....i'm worried that I might have damaged my knee today....i think i pulled something in my right knee...i was playing basketball...did a sharp cross over and the weight distributed to my right leg and felt like my knee twisted in a way it shouldn't have..i was down for 10 minutes..yelled in pain...i'm hoping I did not tear something cause its still sore and in some pain....summer is around the corner and i hope i didn't blow it.......damn..
im 15 and my knees make craking sounds and popping sounds. i have had sore knees for about 5 months now and im failing pe because i cant do any practical. i dont have a clue whats wrong. x rays were clear, and no artheritus. my knee gets stiff and when i slowly stretch it it then cracks and is very ncomfortable. does any one have a clue what it could be.
I had a torn meniscus and had surgery on 9/2/08 and i was out of work for 3 months, its still not 100% and some days its very stiff, i picked up some Glucosamine Chondroitin from the pharmacy (over the counter) it helps alot. good luck guys..one more thing, doc said no treadmill, biking only!!!!
I had arthroscopic and eccoscopic? is that how u spell it? anyways, i had a lateral torn maniscus from Soccer, and the eccoscopic or whatever is called was cuz I had some damage to the femur from some hard hit or something, that was on sept. 25th, phisical therapy helped a lot, but I am still not able to play soccer, this sucks!! lol... in about 2 more months I think i'll be ready.
The problem with this surgery is that when the meniscus is removed it stops the pain for the short term, but causes joint degeneration down the road - MSM which you can buy at a drug or health store is a supplement which strengthens cartilage. While your meniscus is gone you still have the thin cartilage that covers the ends of your leg bones.
I did the same thing about 6 months ago and didn't go to the Doc,I was squatting, got down to a 45 degree angle and heard a pop. I had torn my Meniscus pretty badly, and didn't know. Now I'm having surgery and out for 2-4 months. See your Doc most times physical therapy can help.
i think i may have the got my knee injury the same way you did. i was doing a squat and something went wrong and since then my knees crack and pop when stretched. how did you overcome tearing your meniscus??? please reply
your not alone. i'm 37 and my knees crack and pop worse than rice crispies. They been doing it for bout 10 years and it's getting worse in the last year or so.Cant go 5 mins without having to bend them to relieve the ache they get from sitting still and they pop loud.Sometimes while standing i can twist my leg and it will pop twice It seems to hurt at first then relief afterward like when a chiropractor pops your back I"ve only seen a couple of comments like ours and i wish someone could help me
hi i just tore my acl on friday and scheduled for an x ray tomorrow do you think i would be able to play after recovery? and if so will i be lacking in explosiveness, quickness, and limited in movements? thanks doc!!
i tore my Acl mcl and lateral meniscus about a year and a half ago playing football. taking pt seriously and listening to my doctor got me playing again i had my best year, and was well on my way to an all-conference award... so it is possible to play to your full potential after surgery, unfortunately i just tore my same acl again on wednesday.
I had a partial meniscectomy about 37 days ago. It was my second p.m. I'm in week 3 of PT. I had a bucket handle tear. I'm not bone on bone cause while I have cartilage covering my shin bone, I have bone exposed on my thigh bone. Post-op I still walk with a limp. Worse, I am dealing with electric shock post-op pain that appears every so often out of the blue. They're worrisome. If the shocks don't go away in 3-6 months, I'll explore other options. Options that do not include a knee replacement.
Those dealing with severe pain have several options. Lots of good things are being reported by people who use Adequan. Adequan is legal in Europe. In the U.S. you have to get it from a vet. Another option is to have an allograft. Ya gotta find a doc who does those. There's one in San Francisco and a couple in Florida.
I tore me meniscus about 6 months ago after having knee locking and clicking for over ten years. I was in severe pain for a week or so, but it's not painful now, just a bit of cracking and the occasional dull ache. I was offered an operation, but decided not to go ahead with it since the joint's not giving me huge trouble at the moment (a 'wise decision' according to my doctor!). Reckon I'll likely need some surgery in the future, though.
Tore mine in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, mine clicks and pops, and the day after I work out hard it's really stiff, but other than that, it's tolerable, so i've done nothing. Just got the MRI to make sure it wasn't an ACL, then went on as normal when I found out I had a ravaged meniscus.
I've had meniscus surgery twice on the same knee. 6 Weeks not much movement, but you still have to exercize the leg or it will get stiff then it is harder to get the range of motion back
my meniscus is cracked in half right now but when i walk it doesnt hurt.only when i straigten it, it cracks and i feel pain. tha doc told me that the size is 2times larger than a average person. and they gon take tha whole meniscus off for tha surgery. i didnt take it yet. im 15right now, i had it checked last year, i still dont know what i should do. can anyone help me please
i had a radial tear on my meniscus that went almost all the way through and im guessing that is what you have but if i were you i would talk to your doctor about a meniscal replacement. its a fairly new surgery but it is very successful. i had a menisectemy and am missing most of my meniscus. after my senior wrestling season i am getting the replacement. i wish you well because meniscus tears suck. peace
I have a torn bilateral meniscus and A torn PCL that was over looked for 3 years now I have posterior subluxation of the tibia in the fixed position a 2.5 degree postiorly. I am having high biplanar tibial osteomy surgery if I can get my pain management in control it is very complex. Since my Pcl is beyond repair. Have you heard of this before? The knee is so complex and Im with a PCL specialist I thank God for this. How long is post op care usually for the knee?
OMG! That is whats with me? IT HURTS SOO MUCH! and like its been swollen for 6 months! im scared =[ please check out my vids.. and ill subscribe! PS help me not be scaredd
man, I apologize... I feel you, as I tore my meniscus and ACL and will have my second surgery (ACL recon) at the end of january. I'm 2.5 month after partial meniscectomy and the knee still hurts. It sucks.
I used to do sports, but then took an arrow to the meniscus :)

hi i just tore my acl on friday and scheduled for an x ray tomorrow do you think i would be able to play after recovery? and if so will i be lacking in explosiveness, quickness, and limited in movements? thanks doc!!

i tore my Acl mcl and lateral meniscus about a year and a half ago playing football. taking pt seriously and listening to my doctor got me playing again i had my best year, and was well on my way to an all-conference award... so it is possible to play to your full potential after surgery, unfortunately i just tore my same acl again on wednesday.

I was in Jiu Jitsu and I felt either a click or a pop I have some pain but very little and my knee did swell up at all. Can anyone relate?

I was doing touch football a few years ago and someone accidently knee'd me in the back of the knee.
It clicks and pops sometimes, but I can still run. It sometimes aches when I stand though.
I got an X-Ray, no broken bones.
I got an MRI and the specialist suggested that it was a torn cartildge.
I don't want to take surgery because I hear there's a chance that it might never recover.
It's been years and there's been no significant changes in healing. What should I do?

Surgery can cause pain, but as you already have pain there is little to fear. Hope you get better soon.

It's nice to watch it if you don't have it (tear) and don't know what kind of pain it causes.

man, I apologize... I feel you, as I tore my meniscus and ACL and will have my second surgery (ACL recon) at the end of january. I'm 2.5 month after partial meniscectomy and the knee still hurts. It sucks.
