  • I watched mad men for the first time today (thanks Netflix) and was pleasantly surprised when I heard the title cut...

  • I've heard this track way before I started watching madmen. It's a good tv show but I have been a hip hop head for most of my life and this to me is the version i think of when listening to the melody... but that's just my opinion. To me RJD2 was famous way before this was on madmen or even before wellsfargo played ghostwriter on one of there advertisements.

  • They? No, get it right, This black dude is using RJD2's song, you know the one Mad Men made famous, not made.

  • @mgs4227 This black dude happens to be a very well known (well, known among the hip-hop community) and respected hip hop artist and he's not just "using" RJD2's song, RJD2 produces tracks for artists this was a collaboration that's why it says accompanied by RJD2 on the album

  • @mgs4227 wow....

  • @stonem001 You're the only one laughing at your ignorant, racist joke. No matter how you try to justify your comment or yourself, one fact remains: You are an embarrassment.

  • @lisbonnew

    u mad bra?

  • @stonem001 The blacks of the time were busy fucking the executives wives while they were sucking their own dicks in their offices.

  • @stonem001 what about the elevator guy? :P

  • No offense to the Aceyalone fans, but I really don't feel like his raps, which to me seem to be in free verse mainly, match the beat on this track particularly well. I mean, I don't have anything against free verse rapping at all, I just think something less lush would fit it better.

  • @DannoHung free verse? Aceyalone's flow is on beat here.

  • @DannoHung None taken. I think Acey is a perfect fit...but that's just me. Opinions and assholes, right?

  • Which came first, the chicken or the McNugget?

  • Comment removed

  • LOL! Seems the verdict is in, nothing scares a bigot more than an intelligent black guy, spitting big words, philosophy and such. Please, more comments.

  • It's funny how these ignorant dudes come out with : "How come this ghetto black rapper come spoils this magnific Mad Theme, these rappers always copy what they can't create bla bla bla bla", this fuckin' beat was produced by RJD2 a HIP-HOP producer for Aceylone; period.

It's Mad Men who bought the beat to RJ, so stop hatin'.

  • fuck some show about a bunch of rich white dudes; this is aceyalone's song so show some respect, haters.

  • Funny that the people who are busy calling others 'simple' because they appreciate this just failed to catch the metaphors and allusions being made by Aceyalone in the lyrics.

I don't know why everybody seems to think this song is bad unless Mad Men's key demographic is showing up on this page to listen to their precious theme song, in which case I could understand the skew of the comments towards the racist and bigoted.

  • ...who are you people, and why are is everyone talking about a television show...

  • Their flow isn't steady enough they drift from the beat allot

  • 1:45 listen close

  • Not a bad idea to cut the theme to Mad Men but it's mixed poorly here.

  • @Spengler56 I believe that this is the original and the Man Men theme was cut from this.

  • @bozellandbuckley

    You are right!

  • @bozellandbuckley this is true:)

  • Rip the audio from this video at thetunify doht cohm.

  • @mainafra "That why the say Rap"

    Speaking of the mediocre masses...

Also, It may be worth it to check the timeline before rushing to judgment.

  • I love this song and just found out the instrumental is the theme song for mad men (late to the game)...I'm sure most people viewing this knew Mad Men before Aceyalone

  • It's really hard to believe that THIS is the original song.

  • You should have shutted up...RJD2 produced this beat for Aceyalone. Yeah yeah it's a HIP HOP beat made by a HIP HOP producer, you can check it on wiki if you xant, so if you like it, don't disrespect HIP HOP, please

  • This is nothing but absurdity near stupidity .If you want to rap go get your own beats.Don't spoil a beautiful thing. That why the say Rap is a craft of the immature loved by mediocre masses.

  • @mainafra

This "beautiful thing" was made specifically for this rap. It's a hip hop beat.

  • neggbird is absolutely right...and you are officially retarded.

  • @mainafra

If you think anything Aceyalone ever said or did is stupid or absurd then you are basically the scum of the earth. Also underground rap is not loved by mediocre masses just a select few who know a hell of a lot more about music than you, also it is not in the least immature in fact it is the most evolved form of music out there.

  • @mainafra u r NOTHING what the fuck have you done ???

NOTHING especially not make a platinum hit like mag city bitch

  • @mainafra You do understand this was the original. If you want to make a theme to a tv show go make your own god damn song.

  • @mainafra

Rap is poetry. Fools seem to believe that it should not be considered art, most likely manipulated by media into thinking "niggers" (i use the word not to condone it, but to illustrate its absurdity) have no right to art. Jazz took a long time to become respected too.

Rap is about words and that's hard for music lovers to appreciate since music (ie Classical) usually conveys emotion via sound as opposed to language.

But to deny rap its artistic merit is pure unadulterated ignorance.

  • @Fatalink rap is actually an acronym, it stands for Rhythmic American Poetry

  • @Fatalink I think most people say it shouldn't be considered art because they're confused as to what is rap. Hip-hop poppy sort of crap that is popular right now is often confused with regular rap, and that stuff is really not great.

  • Ouch! Like the instrumental better.

  • The primary sample used is Autumn Leaves from composer Enoch Light. So everyone else is just building on what he created.

  • @CyberianHusky74 Hell yes! Enoch Light was Pure genius and way ahead of his time. Thumbs up for Enoch Light.

  • The funny thing about it is is that this version came out before Mad Men.

  • AAAHHH, my ears... MY EARS!!!

  • @erieau u've got it all wrong. rj wrote a beautiful mine wayyyyy before this shit song. aceyalone just did the typical dumb rapper thing and decided to use a great song as his instrumental and ruin it. the mad men theme isn't the instrumental to this song, rather, the original, not horrible one

  • Oh Lordy...

I find it curious though how they associated a rap song (minus the lyrics of course) with Mad Men!

The classy elegance, prosperity, subtile flirting, innuendos of Mad Men, and RAP. How opposite! But both relay the same thing when you think about it : a deep-seated malaise, discrepancy with society.

I wonder who thought of that, it's brillant.

  • @Porcelanesa no no no. mad men doesn't use this song at all. they don't use the instrumental, ok? will everyone get this through they're heads?? rjd2 wrote this song years ago. it had no shitty rap. mad men used the original rjd2 version, not this. they didn't take this song, and remove the lyrics. look up rjd2. he's a million times better than fucking aceyalone

  • @chuckles1252 Oh, ok, I didn't know that. I'll delete my comment in this case, it doesn't make sense anymore. Thanks for the info.

  • @chuckles1252 Man you're funny RJD2 and Aceyalone made a full album together called Magnificent City, which features this track. Whether or not the instrumental track was made long before the actual collaboration doesnt matter. This song IS a collaboration between RJD2 and Aceyelone and not a dumb rapper taking a good instrumental and rapping over it.

  • @chuckles1252 Plus you cant compare Aceyalone with RJD2. One is an MC the other is a producer.

  • @chuckles1252 This is definitely one of the most ridiculous You Tube comments I have ever read. Seriously.

  • yeah... WTF??? why is this a rap???

  • @kingdaka5006 because it was ORIGINALLY a rap.

  • @wanderlustwarrior no. rtfm or gtfo

  • @chuckles1252 here's one for you: FUCK YOU. No childish acronyms required. If you're going to say something, chuckles, be an adult and say it.

  • @wanderlustwarrior i was like half kidding. it wasn't originally a rap, why are u doing the usual youtube comments thing and getting pissed. why bust a tit over a youtube comment

  • @chuckles1252 half kidding doesn't translate online.

  • @wanderlustwarrior so have u gotten over urslelf?

  • @chuckles1252 I'd like to say I'm going to wait until you say something that can't just be said back to you, since this is the third time in a row.

Instead, I'm just going to stop arguing and ignore your comments.

  • @wanderlustwarrior i'm just wondering why ur pissed off in the firstplace

  • You guys really hate aceyalone that much? This man is a lyrical genius. You're all probably the same white bitches who would scream that Bob Dylan sounds like a god.

  • eck?

  • I just doesn't sound mixed right like the vocals are up way too much and don't mix with the music well. Weird that its on Mad Men. Actually very very dope that a Hip Hop producer did it and a avant guard show picked it up.

  • For those of you who don't know, Beautiful Mine samples a Enoch Light song called "Autumn Leaves". It was made in 1966.

  • Quoting Ackbar: It's a crap!

  • @yeclix i'm guessing you don't listen to anything besides pop music.

  • "ouch.." is the only thing I could think.

  • i dont recollect they had rap in the 1960's : /

  • @mrpotatohead34 gil scott heron and last poets were the first rappers n that was late 60s early 70s and on... aceyalone best modern rapper

  • @NoahMalloy don't ever, ever, be proud of ignorance

  • @firestartertwistedfi You're right. Instead i will waste my time watching "madmen" whatever that is...and then waste even more time commenting negative statements about an artist i know nothing about. then i will argue with people over youtube about my opinions. what's more ignorant? aceyalone is sick, this may not be his best but y'all should do some research.

  • @makemyfilm

There is an album exactly the same only without the rapper.

It's by rjd2, look for Magnificent city instrumentals and u shall find!

  • i think the main problem is that the mix on the vocals is WAY TOO FUCKN LOUD it just drowns out the accompaniment, which as we all know is orgasmic

  • Hahahah so true I about pee'd myself when I heard this. It's so loud that it's a joke. Instrumental is waay better.

  • say what u want, but Acey doesn't sound good on this intrumental... nope.

  • this would sound sick with Nas

  • i think I've just gotten so used to the instrumental version that anybody rapping over it would sound bad

  • @damnwitless1 me too, but nobody else would sound as bad as aceyalone. his shit is wack as crack. another good example of how much he blows is his song 'grin and bear it;' probably the worst song in hip hop.

  • @squiggyklane I wouldnt say thats the worst song in hip hop. did you hear soulja boy's anime? WOW.

just terrible. tell your friends just so we can crush this dude.

  • @squiggyklane you should be happy that, that's the worst song in hip hop for you.

  • The rapping sounds weird with the instrumental :/

  • I agree - the rapping is too rushed for this track. I think it would've sounded better if the delivery was more relaxed . . . then again, maybe this track was simply meant to be an instrumental

  • oh this is so sad the beat is siiick why did they put such bad vocals on it?

  • @PetiteEsthete

because RJD2 produced the beat for Aceyalone

  • Yeah thanks, I know. My point was, RJD2 could've given this beat to other artists he works with, such as Cunninlynguists (who could've done a much better job with it).

  • The vocal track was around previous to it being used by Mad Men. This album was released in Feburary 07 and mad men came out later that year. It's a track produced by RJD2.

  • wow rjd2 is amazing... i like Aceyclone but this is kinda terrible dude.

  • true

  • HAHAHHAHAHAH I love it.

  • Much agreed atruefauxpas. Sorry TEkken1200 but this shit is not bearable and is bleeding ears bad.

  • OK DAMN!! I just want to cut the dude some slack! It's his instrumental anyway.

  • Wow. That was terrible. Use Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, Kayne West, Common; someone with experience in poetry flowing because this was bad.

  • atrue-Please tell me you are joking. You are aware of Acey's vast body of work going back more than ten years, right? N00bs like you need to do their homework.

  • My god people, it ain't THAT bad, I mean it's bad but not bleeding ears bad. The instrumental is beautiful though, he just needs to rap a bit more clearly and read some poetry for inspiration.

  • its not that awful,either...

  • this guy is a true wordsmith and poet, you people.....

  • the rap ruins a great instrumental

  • then get the instrumental, I agree though, although i love Aceyalone

  • What if the show left these lyrics on the intro, LMAO that shit would fuck up the whole show

  • @MonsterinNC HAHAHAHAHA YOU ARE SO RIGHT!

  • This could have sounded pretty good, but they ended up with... THAT.

  • This fool is terrible.

  • Wow, wasn't expecting the rap at all, holy shit that was terrible. It was like mixing jazz with bachata or something. My ears are bleeding.

  • its only because his lyrics were trash. with the right person on it - it would have been better.

  • Here's a bit of trivia for you. The opening string-orchestra-theme music from "Mad Men" is actually stolen from the first six bars of the introduction to an arrangement by Enoch Light (of Enoch Light and the Light Brigade) of "Autumn Leaves" (Project3Records, PRD 5109, issued in 1992 on CD, probably recorded circa 1970, discontinued now, "The Most Beautiful Music in the World". RJD2 super-imposed the heavy Latin/Rock percussion track over the original string-orchestra arrangement by Enoch Light.

  • Copy paste ftw.

  • mate,

i love the fact that you would know something like that!

especially when everyone is creaming themselves over the show (including me)

    nice one!

  • Not big on the vocals, it doesn't seem to fit the music that RJD2 puts together. Nothing personal.

  • Agreed...it feels out of place.

  • Maybe because I am used to Mad Men, but I hate the vocals

  • Aceyalone's flow just doesn't fit the music. He's simply the wrong artist for this melody. Rakim can do this up right...or Nas even.

  • yea his flow is just wack

  • Whoah. . I'd rather take the instrumental over this any day!

  • What u mean by that?

  • Well, the instrumental as made famous by Mad Men is pretty epic.. I don't know if its because I heard the instrumental first, but the lyrics of Aceyalone seem to kind of sit on top of the beat like water on oil or something... though from listening to this I think i will check the album out

  • Mad Men is awesome.
