nodysseus - 13 million Russians died fighting fascism in WWII [compared to 400,000 US and 300,000 UK troops]. This isn't a defence of communism - millions of these Russian deaths were clearly avoidable.

nodyclone - I've read that better training, better equipment, better communications... and maps, would all have helped. But my point is this. The Russians were our allies in defending liberty. Then we branded them evil, McCarthy started his US witch-hunts and the CIA set about destroying nacent left leaning latin american democracies. Whose interests were best served by this response? Not, I think, liberty's.
