  • like if octopimp brought you here

  • I have what ever he's smoking!!!

  • I ended this whole game 100% in just 3 hours XD

  • I ended this whole game 100% in just 3 hours XD

  • ZELDAAAA!!!!

  • I have this game for my NES, though not the gold cartridge, it still saves after all this time....

  • for those that weren't Nintendo playing young kids at the time, it might blow right over your heads, but this commercial got a lot of us hyped to buy and play this game. I remember my friend acting out this commercial while he was playing. Was always hilarious.

  • I would have liked to have seen an easter egg where you can play through the game as this guy.

  • Lol at Nintendo of America trying to make a Zelda commercial. Zelda is such an epic, dynamic game and this commercial does it now justice. oh well.

  • Now, you're watching a commercial with a nutcase!!!

  • I can honestly say this is the worst commercial I've ever seen. It shows NOTHING other than common enemies from the game, has nothing to do with the game, and doesn't make any sense. It's not even a stupid rap or anything! Hell, why not just show a kid raising his sword, add a cartoony beam shooting out of the sword, and then show the logo of the game? Creative, no, but it has a CHANCE of getting some kid to buy it!

  • @lemurdragonsan then u didnt have a childhood!!!

  • Aye, I agree that this commercial did the game absolutely No justice. This isn't convincing at all xD It's just weird. Now; the Robin Williams advert, that's different :P Still doesn't sell the game but at least the main role isn't piss annoying like this guy "TEKTITES?! D:"

  • This is one of the dumbest adverts ever. I remember watching this and not getting the slightest hint of how awesome Zelda was. I thought it was one of those 4-in-1 games cartridges, with "Octorocks, Pehats, Leevers," etc, being the names of the games.

  • What the fuck does this guy's angel dust freakout have to do with Legend of Zelda?

  • Why was every 80s commercial so scary?

  • when i was a kid this commercial annoyed the hell outta me!!!!

  • I think the way Luigi says "Mario?" in Luigi's Mansion was kind of a rub at the way link yells for Zelda at :20

  • This was the worst nintendo commercial nintendo ever made, what made them think of this? Its an epic fail but because how failed it is its so f*cking funny!

  • Isn't that Charles Fleischer? The guy who voiced Roger Rabbit?

  • Holy memories Batman.

  • ISAAAAAAAAC

  • what was the logic behind this commercial? how did the PR guys sell this idea? and what exactly is that that guy doing--some kinda twist on mime? these are the questions I have both now and 20 years ago.

  • The second commercial was better with that nerdy rap.

  • Binding of Isaac ftw.

  • I think... my brain is leaking.

  • Edmund McMillen sent me here.

  • Wow, that was... Awesome. Nothing would be advertised like this any more. :\

  • @Rinneval The Legend of Zelda……best game of all time

  • The Legend of Zelda > A Link to the Past

  • @bitchasshoeism The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

  • pea-pea-peahat!XD

  • It's a wonder the game survived considering THIS is how it was originally promoted.

  • This reminds me of the first time I played zelda...and wondered what person enjoys this... Turns out they asked a guy in black in a dark room who was having a nervous breakdown what kind of game they should make, and he responded with this and they were like "Yeah we can make that".

  • lol this doesnt represent the game at all,

  • so its a man in a dark room yelling?

  • i feel bad for him he definitely has Tourettes or something.

  • seriously, this commercial has haunted me for over a decade. I am glad to see that i didnt imagine it. all I remember was that guy screaming "ZELDA!", but for some reason I thought he was in a maze. what a weird way to sell a game. its like they have this brilliant game, yet they have no idea how to explain what it is and sell it to you. this commercial is like gibberish.

  • THIS GUY IS THE CRYPT KEEPER.

    *head explodes*

  • @thaddeusmcgrath who doesnt?

  • Stupidest commercial in my life

  • Ahhhh.... Back when video games were sold with meth....

  • I love playing nes nude eating cereal.

  • burn this commercial and send it to hell

  • thank god I never saw that commercial before playing it

  • IIRC, this was the very first commercial for TLOZ in the USA..

  • I still see Tektites like that for no reason whatsoever.

  • @califinn i freaking hate tecktiles

  • Until I saw this ad again on YouTube, I had thought it was Pons Maar (the lead Wheeler in Return to Oz)...

  • That's the guy who did the voice for the Cryptkeeper in Tales from the Crypt (John Kassir)

  • I was a kid when this commerical came out - I thought it was unsual then... I still do! I have to admit though, it certainly gets attention. One of the best nintendo games! It came with that cool open up booklet (map) of Hyrule. One of my friends and I would discuss what part of the map we would think the next item was, and mark where we had been the previous day. Very addicting game! Loved the one on the SNES too!

  • I remember watching that commercial and thinking that the game would be really stupid. I was obviously wrong- Zelda is arguably the best game on original NES!

  • Ah, the 80's. Crappy commercials that have almost nothing to do with the game.

  • I'm so happy i was a kid in the 80's and got to grow up during the golden age of video gaming. I played Zelda so much as a kid i still have it memorized today and could still sit down and beat the game in an hour or two when as a kid it took me months to beat. This and Metroid, Castlevania, Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, Faxanadu, Startropics, and Adventure of Link took countless hours of my childhood away from me lololololololol But was totally worth it!!!

  • @brillopad6901

Beat Legend of Zelda in 2 hours? Is that possible?

  • @ShadowZero1980

Yes when you have it memorized and you don't waste time and only beat what you need to beat. I beat it a couple times a year and that is all that it takes me.

  • @brillopad6901

In the PAL or NTSC version? ;)

  • @ShadowZero1980 NTSC

  • So lame it's painful.

    ZELL-DUH!!

  • Classic commercial for a classic game, that have nothing to do with one another. ;-) When I saw this, I wondered: "What Was THAT??" and became more interested in the game.

  • I remember watching that commercial.

  • It was... a different time. A special time. A time of... well...

  • Not a dis of the person who posted it, just a dis of the retard in the commercial.

  • ..............................

I should really, really be more thankful for having been born in the early '90s... too young to suffer from '80s gaming ads, too old to be immediately labelled an xbox cod child :|

  • I loved this commercial as a kid. I'd scream LEEVERS when I'd play because of this ad.

  • wtf? Were ALL of the commercials for Zelda on the NES odd?

  • i remember this as a kid.

yes, you have no idea how annoying video game commercials were in the 1980s.

  • Maybe he's in an asylum.

  • It's like the evil child of Pee Wee herman and I.M. Meen..

  • PE-PE-PE-PENIS!!!

  • wow i remember this one... what a piece of trash, it made the game look bad... they didnt even give the guy a link costume. its like they literally went into the stair well and filmed it and 15 minutes later were editing for tv. i only watched it to remember if he made any funny voices, guess not.

  • This commercial must've cost like $6 to make XD

  • I thought mental hospital isolation rooms were suppose to be all white.

  • This commercial did nothing for the game. Almost kept me from buying it as a kid. What I do remember being the coolest thing about the game was it was one of the first (if not THE first) games with a memory card built-in to the cartridge to save games. Think it held 3(?) different names per cartridge or something like that. First of the campaign/long storyline console games. Cutting edge stuff at the time. We were easy to please back then. I was prime marketing target being a kid in the 80's!

  • @chfpontiac And the Japanese version was on a floppy and it saved right to the disk

  • That guy did the voice for the Cryptkeeper from Tales from the Crypt

  • @lolubentrold Very true.

  • imagine if he saw redeads

    or wolfos

  • Its a good thing I played it at a friends house because that commercial scared me away.

  • Pe-Pe-peahats!

  • ok so the situation looks like this guy played zelda to much and got addicted and so he lost sight of reality so they put him in a insane asylem when deprived of his game he went mad therefor him running around in his cell screaming "ZELDA"!

  • this is more disturbing than anything

  • OMG I remember this!

  • ok... this makes no since. is that supposed to be link.. or link high?

  • im so hungry i could eat an octorok

  • he was the voice of The Crypt Keeper

  • Over twenty years later and my brother and I still quote this commercial to each other, especially, "Which..way..to..go?" LOL

  • My goodness. This commercial makes me feel old. I actually remember seeing this commercial on TV waaaay back in the day. Thanks for posting this.

  • Did he say "PENIS"? LOL!

  • John Kassir, better known as the Cryptkeeper.

  • Asshole: ZELDA!!!

  • That was just confusing.

  • 0:15-0:16 Pea-Pea Peahats!! LOL!!!!!

  • I started laughing at "ZELDUUHH!!!" and then harder at "OCTOROKS!" and then at "PEAPEAPEAPEAHATS!" I stopped watching because I was laughing so hard.

  • Reefer Madness, Reefer Madness!

  • Great game but what the hell were these people smoking?

  • Man, back in the day, all you needed to make commercials was a camcorder the size of a bus, and a lot of cocaine...

    I hated the 80s...

  • Shut up guys, this commercial was epic

  • This commercial cost 5 million US dollars...

    Fuck.

  • a neverending adventure...til you beat the final boss

  • @MultiNanners And then you play the second quest. :P

  • WTF is wrong with that dude? Zelda's in Hyrule you asshole, not some noir-esque crime scene. LMAO

  • Yet another example of the supreme irony of the universe: That, by some strange twist of fate or cosmic paradox, it is possible for the single greatest videogame of all time to have, quite literally, the single shittiest 31 seconds ever put onto a screen for a commercial.

  • @masamune2984 Yes, it is a crappy commercial, tells you almost nothing about the game, other than a few monsters you fight.

  • Why the americans always make shitty videogame commercials?

  • @internetakias1 Ah the Japanese verison is wrost than this.Video commericals in the 80 were all pretty bad. They just could'nt market games like they do today.

  • Legendary game, but the commercial sure was shitty. I remember it being funny when I saw it as a kid. Not anymore.

  • i cant decide which is worse

    this or the zelda rap

  • Im pretty sure Miyamoto would shoot himself if he saw this...and i wouldnt blame him either lmfao

  • This commercial was on quite a few times, I distinctly remember making fun of it with my old man.

  • pea-pea-peahats!

  • ZELDUH!!!

  • thats the roger rabbit/crypt keeper voice actor.

  • I remember seeing this commercial and thinking that zelda must be a horrible game... at least the game exceeded the hype from this commercial...

  • @dartfrogger I thought it would be bad too, it looked like an atari game to me, good thing my cousin was able to talk me into getting it for my birthday.

  • I REMEMBER SEEING THIS AD ONLY ONCE... THANK GOODNESS IT WAS ONCE.

  • Not too often a product exceeds a commercial. This is an exception

  • I think this commercial was not viewed very much, which is why Zelda selled so well.

  • @pockuinator Because "selled" is totally a word.

  • @tehwarlockuser I'd tell you I was trolling or something, but in all honesty, I know the word is "sold", but it was the middle of the night.

  • what shit was he smoking?

  • @Kingkidkira Well, back when this came out, the NES only had 11 games available, so they had to something catchy for the commercial.

  • @TyVulpine I didn't know that.

  • @Kingkidkira I dont know but I want it

  • wow epic fail comercial!

  • What an asshole.

    SPOILER ALERT:

    The adventure ends. :(

  • holy shit! I want to meet 1 person who saw this ad and said "That looks like a nice game, I think I'm gonna buy it"

  • These old commercials are so frigging corny :D

  • ...zelda and peach always gets kidnapped especially peach...

  • lol is that guy on crack? :)

  • Is that monk? This is the commercial i remember.

  • That guy make it look like he got some major issues.

  • When John Kassir did this commercial, he had already gained gained a moniker of fame from being Zagreb on the HBO football comedy "1st and 10"

  • ......which brings me to my next point kids. Don't smoke crack.

  • ZELDA-A never-ending adventure...until you come to the end.....

  • OCTORAKS!

  • @ilikeluigi TCKTITES! D:

  • hahaha wtf , i remember watching this as a kid and askin my dad if that guy was normal haha

  • this dude acting like he on crack or something lol. i remember this commercial and thought it was hilarious as a kid...now im just like WOW

  • i don't take acid, but if i did, i would take it and then watch this : )

  • lol

  • P-P-PEAHATS!!!

  • LEEEEEVVERRRS!!! AAAAAUUUGH!

  • wow what just happened?

  • Oh yeah, gotta love John Kassir. That guy is the voice of the Cryptkeeper. Other roles he's done are Deadpool from X-Men Legends 2 and the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games. He also did Buster Bunny from Tiny Toons, although it was only for a while.

  • Why is Art Garfunkel looking for Zelda?

  • LOL

  • @ghostsmask Dude, that's the Cryptkeeper!

  • He is trapped in the lunitic place.

  • If anyone did a commercial like this for a big game today, the company's investors will completely withdraw in a week.

  • this is dumb shit -.-

  • .......................................

  • To this day I have " which way to go?" stuck in my head from seeing this commercial as a kid.

  • I wonder till this day of what is wrong with this dude. He makes the Zelda games look awful.

  • a never ending adventuer? bull shit.

  • yo i saw this commercial one time on it's original run and remember thinking that dude in the turtle neck makes zelda look lame. I was floored when i actually played it. WHERE'S THE ASSHOLE IN THE TURTLENECK??

  • 0:16- PEE-PEE-PENIS!

  • Yeesh, this guy would have had problems finding the con-, er, the wooden sword given how he acts! One wonders if this commercial haunts him sometimes....

All that aside, twenty-some years later it's an amusing footnote in LoZ's history.

  • ZEEELDAAA!!

  • I'm using this as future reference's

  • dam this makes the zelda game look like crap.. and i love the legend of zelda and thats the best they can do? uggg failure!!

  • Holy Shriek it's the Cryptkeeper!

    (Really now, it's John Kassir)

  • "A never ending adventure, new for your nintendo entertainment system."

Thats not true, as far as i remember it actually ended twice. Once more than your avarage game.

  • Hahahahh. The biggest part of this commercial I remember is "LEEEEEVERSS' "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH"

  • THIS is the Nintendo commercial I remember best from my childhood.

    How sad is that? :P

  • It's the same with me. And watching it again I realize...WTF!? LOL!

  • Well, 10/10

  • Cocaine's a hell of a drug.

  • LOL I was just thinking something like that...

"Okay, so this commercial tells me that the game is a smash hit with drug addicts and schizophrenics".

  • ZELDA!!!!
