After all if you spend all those years of observation of the stars, whats the point of creating a calender thats only good for one use, although a very long period of use. Just use it again, until you find a better system to replace it.

actually, if you have seen the Mayan calendar in action, it is all about repeating cycles, and predicting various moods or modes about what will occur, as if they were seaons of the year. So it's totally reusable dude! lol, now you just gota get one ;-)

As for their calander ending in 2012, well what do we do when a year is done, go to the store and get a new calender. Eventually you'll get to a point where you can use the old calenders you have because the dates line up perfectly from previous years, just change the year with a marker and all is well. The Myan calander just tracks basicaly a cosmic year or something like that, so just use it again, start from the begining. ;)

The only thing special with 2012 is our star system will be alligned with the galactic horizon at the winter solstace. The Myans just developed a good astrology system, the short court for short term prediction of the alignment of spacial bodies, and the long court to predict far future solstaces and alignment of spacial bodies. They just made good predictions on the position of us in relation to the stars from many years of observation, nothing more nothing less.
