  • 2 people suck !!!!!!!

  • Best I ever saw ... Little Rock in the 70's

  • i am hearing some ennio morricone in there.

  • a great song

  • I think his facial hair is the secret to that uniquie tone he has with the flute

  • I saw Tull in concert back in the early 70's at Las Vegas Convention Center . . . Unbelievable! greatest concert ever. This was one of my favorites.

  • don't know Tull's early stuff that well - hearing some Experience/Sabbath vibes in this song

  • @Hazeon23 Tony Iommi wrote a few of the riffs for this song.. Check out the Bursting Out live album to get some classic heavy Tull

  • @vhfanjack I had no idea Tony Iommi worked with Tull. I'll look up the album, thanks for the tip!

  • @Hazeon23 He was in the band for only about two weeks, and his only public appearance was in some Rolling Stones Circus Film where he lip synced the guitar part for "Song For Jeffrey". And according to him, he wrote some of the riffs for this tune.

If you want a real Sabbathy riff, check out "My God" from the Isle of Wight 1970 video too.

  • not the best but sure not bad

  • In Tulls top 5 for sure......

  • I'VE SEEN TULL AT LEAST 6 TIME'S,,, FIRST TIME WAS IN 71

  • My favorite song by Tull, along with Living in the Past.

  • nice collection of early photos from 1969/1970! great job!

  • listining to this on vinyl sounds great

  • Awewome photos dude. Thanks for all your posts. As I get older (I'm pretty old already), I come to appreciate Ian's genius more and more each day. He is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of the rock and roll era.

  • deberian haber estado en woodstock

  • que hueones mas hippies

  • damn Tony Iommi... you play those riffs

  • @GhostauraYamil8 Iommi didn't play this lol

  • @meowandmeow yeah he did, he was with jethro tull only for this album.. and he left just after the rolling stones rock n roll circus

  • @GhostauraYamil8 umm... no, he literally ONLY played (and by played i mean mimed) at the rock + roll circus, this album came out in 1969 a year after the circus in 68. Iommi was just doing Ian a favor, this album's guitarist was Martin Barre. Iommi never recorded any album songs with Tull. The guitarist in their first album (stand up being their second) was Mick Abrahams, who Iommi filled in for because HE left just before the circus. They found Martin in time for stand up.

  • @meowandmeow You're absolutely right. However, during Tony's time in the band he did rehearse the material that became this album. And in his autobiography, he claims to have originated some of the guitar parts to this song. Which shouldn't be surprising.

  • @SnakeRambo I know, I'm just saying that it isn't him playing in the studio version of this song.

  • where can i get boots like andersons?

  • This part ir perfect 0:00 - 4;25

  • their best album and sounds really trick...great post.....ssssssssss...aaaaaaahhhh

  • Talk About An Original Sound!

  • I grew up with Tull in the 70's......................love it!! It's hard to believe that there are some dislikes??? Go listen to some Justin Bieber maybe?????

  • @Aqualung71 You did a great job selecting this fine set of Jethro Tull images.

  • WOW just been rubber banded back to my school days of '69 and my first experience with weed (see 1:24)

  • love Ian, but I wish he had taken it more easy on them tights!!!!!

  • Awesome track

  • In my opinion this was one of their best albums, and this song definitely is one of my favs.

  • King Tone! What a great amalgam of Blues and Jazz. Serious music here. Fond memories, as well.

  • Some great pictures here thanks for the upload! :D

  • Love the pictures. And the album.

  • I don't think it gets much better than this.

  • Ian Anderson for some reason always looked like a conman to me.. Anyone else think that?

  • @jakeTW1996 Yeah, sorta. Reminds me of a Dickens character. Like that nasty but fascinating Fagin in "Oliver!" the musical video.

  • @jakeTW1996 Somewhat like Catweazle if i may be so bold as to suggest.

  • @jakeTW1996 You can't con talent

  • Bass line in this song is absolutely sick!!!!!

  • @rowdymax1 I saw the original Tull with Glen Cornick on bass guitar around 1970 in the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. Glen played a huge roll in the orignal sound of Jethro Tull music. Half way through the show they took an intermission, they rolled a grand piano and a B-3 out on the stage....the band comes back out and Anderson says "Ladies and Gentlemen, for our BENEFIT, John Evans on piano and organ"... then, they proceeded to play most of the material from album Benefit. Fab!

  • @rowdymax1 Listen to gentle Giant

Now that, my friend, is sick

    :O

  • Dude. You had to be there...

  • Seen these Guys at Fillmore East and Westbury Music Fair, N.Y. !! YES, THEY TORE IT UP, w/ Precision to spare.. Bands today need training wheels.. They opened for "Traffic ",1st U.S Tull Tour w./original Menbers. Dharma for one Blasting ,when we walked in." Clive was / is- The best Drummer to sit with Tull" .period. 2nd & 3rd Time-Benefit & Aqualung Tour .. Oh, also saw them at Central Park Blasting out in the open :Stoned out most of shows...

  • Stand up! one of my all-time favorites from my extensive blues and rock collection. all the cuts had a whole lot to say!!! Huichol53........

  • I'm so glag - that I lived in that time :o)

  • Oh, my first album...! Absolutely divine

  • Next works are better in my humble opinion, more conceptual and well elaborated, just check for Minstrel in the Gallery. Stand Up is good enough, though.

  • Wonderful drumming!

  • This song does make me feel better every time I listen to it. Thank you for posting it and to Mr. Ian Anderson, for writing and performing this song with Jethro Tull.

  • take your time cogitating, ay evol.

  • fantastic images too

  • Thanks for the upload! Their best song...

  • Woooooooooo....I'm back on track.

  • Didn't Tony Iommi come up with this riff when he was in Jethro tull for a brief time?

  • It feels like "Truckin" from the Grateful Dead but i like these lyricks much better

  • One of the most encouraging and stone cold jammin songs ever!!! Oh to be 15 again!!

    mike

  • LOVe ya aqualung!

  • BEST song tull ever did ! What an ending!

  • dude, we all looked like ian anderson in those days, and the chicks looked like melanie safka or else marianne faithfull.

look how much his band started to look like him too, especially martin lancelot barre

  • cool song

  • Nothin' is easy one of my all time favorites except for locomotive breath......Huichol53........I gotta say Jethro sure looks like my old man when I met him.

  • Man where did he find the outrageous clothes, Love this song.

Very untrue song, but awesome none the less :)

  • My second favorite, along with "Living in the Past"

  • Love this track and band. This video is great, all the old photos are fabulous.

  • together with songs from the woods the best album...

  • no it is not easy!!!!

  • Tull reign supreme. I never get tired of them. They are in my Top....well....one, most likely.

  • My favorite Tull song. I always think of this when I get to whining about something inconsequential. Suck it up and drive on.

  • Why is this great group still not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

  • @carolinadnm17 It bites, but one of the requirements for induction is "to be influential". No one since the beginning of Tull has sounded like them, but should that disqualify when their talent level (writing/Technical is near the top?

  • @carolinadnm17 Maybe because rock and roll is not about a hof. Hof is 'the man". RnR is bigger than that!

  • @carolinadnm17 Because that institution is ridiculous and we can go on.

  • the flute in the Rock!!!

  • Ist song opening the show spring 1970 on the Benefit tour-was a great idea-even though they were showcasing new material this obvious crowd pleaser was pretty god-damned stirring .Blacked out stage ,the first trills of "Nothing is Easy" running through the hall like an electrical current, house lights go up & there he is...

  • Some of the best drumming of all time.

  • @triplettam YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT..../:o) the day they recorded this CLASSIC they were all frighteningly tight with each other considering the arrangement of this tune. Clive Bunker is impossible to beat!! /:o]

  • totally kool for steve in minnesota

  • Thanks man. Good times..so many good times..Best rock and roll songwriter of all time. Love to see the hippy gear. They still dress like that up in Humbolt county..It's a timewarp up there.

  • To martinjohn90, yes Ciive Bunker does own this song because the drums float

over and under the whole track. anne.

  • Clive Bunker owns this song! One of Tull's best.

  • @MartinJohn90 Clive Bunker does own this song, because the

drums float under and over the whole piece, and for the most

    part distunguish the song. Anne

  • Such an excellent video, thank you.

  • LOL,,,,,:)

    Isn't that for sure!

Thank you and StuartStreet for sharing!

  • 1:12 : where can I get this picture!

  • @ZACfromSCB Press Stamp r Sist XD

  • Saw them at ravinia and now im learning how to play flute. Ians a genius!

  • @blarglesacks I saw them at Ravinia also, that was such an amazing show, I had this song stuck in my head for the whole next day.

  • I am tripping looking at those band photos.

  • Always loved the album, especially the pop out in the centerfold. Coool.

  • Always brings me up when life gets me down.

  • @Trontom you got it!!!

  • @Trontom hence the album's title, "stand up"!
