@Hazeon23 He was in the band for only about two weeks, and his only public appearance was in some Rolling Stones Circus Film where he lip synced the guitar part for "Song For Jeffrey". And according to him, he wrote some of the riffs for this tune.
If you want a real Sabbathy riff, check out "My God" from the Isle of Wight 1970 video too.
Awewome photos dude. Thanks for all your posts. As I get older (I'm pretty old already), I come to appreciate Ian's genius more and more each day. He is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of the rock and roll era.
@GhostauraYamil8 umm... no, he literally ONLY played (and by played i mean mimed) at the rock + roll circus, this album came out in 1969 a year after the circus in 68. Iommi was just doing Ian a favor, this album's guitarist was Martin Barre. Iommi never recorded any album songs with Tull. The guitarist in their first album (stand up being their second) was Mick Abrahams, who Iommi filled in for because HE left just before the circus. They found Martin in time for stand up.
@meowandmeow You're absolutely right. However, during Tony's time in the band he did rehearse the material that became this album. And in his autobiography, he claims to have originated some of the guitar parts to this song. Which shouldn't be surprising.
I grew up with Tull in the 70's......................love it!! It's hard to believe that there are some dislikes??? Go listen to some Justin Bieber maybe?????
@rowdymax1 I saw the original Tull with Glen Cornick on bass guitar around 1970 in the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. Glen played a huge roll in the orignal sound of Jethro Tull music. Half way through the show they took an intermission, they rolled a grand piano and a B-3 out on the stage....the band comes back out and Anderson says "Ladies and Gentlemen, for our BENEFIT, John Evans on piano and organ"... then, they proceeded to play most of the material from album Benefit. Fab!
Jethro Tull, The Minstrel Looks Back 1969-1977 2DVD set feature concert performances from Tampa 1976, London 1977, Tanglewood 1970, rare footage from Brick and Passion Play tours plus more, please see our Youtube channel for link to web site, clips, more info
Seen these Guys at Fillmore East and Westbury Music Fair, N.Y. !! YES, THEY TORE IT UP, w/ Precision to spare.. Bands today need training wheels.. They opened for "Traffic ",1st U.S Tull Tour w./original Menbers. Dharma for one Blasting ,when we walked in." Clive was / is- The best Drummer to sit with Tull" .period. 2nd & 3rd Time-Benefit & Aqualung Tour .. Oh, also saw them at Central Park Blasting out in the open :Stoned out most of shows...
Next works are better in my humble opinion, more conceptual and well elaborated, just check for Minstrel in the Gallery. Stand Up is good enough, though.
This song does make me feel better every time I listen to it. Thank you for posting it and to Mr. Ian Anderson, for writing and performing this song with Jethro Tull.
Nothin' is easy one of my all time favorites except for locomotive breath......Huichol53........I gotta say Jethro sure looks like my old man when I met him.
@carolinadnm17 It bites, but one of the requirements for induction is "to be influential". No one since the beginning of Tull has sounded like them, but should that disqualify when their talent level (writing/Technical is near the top?
Ist song opening the show spring 1970 on the Benefit tour-was a great idea-even though they were showcasing new material this obvious crowd pleaser was pretty god-damned stirring .Blacked out stage ,the first trills of "Nothing is Easy" running through the hall like an electrical current, house lights go up & there he is...
@triplettam YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT..../:o) the day they recorded this CLASSIC they were all frighteningly tight with each other considering the arrangement of this tune. Clive Bunker is impossible to beat!! /:o]
