I like this song and gig. Enjoyed Keiths auto bio with its cool catelogue of 1970s drugs and his cool observation of the 1960s Etonians , models , photographers ,producers and for putting us in the drivers seat of his step by step analysis and seduction of his women and how to get past the dealers and rivals.
Keith said in his book (Life) that the Stones got on their knees constantly and begged Charlie to be their drummer. Charlie was into jazz, not rock. Keith says -"We were dirt poor and we even stole things for Charlie to get him to join the band."
@ruffust1 which is kind of funny, because Watts is not, and never has been, a very good drummer. He couldn't even play the part for "You Can't Always Get What You Want" so they had to get Jimmy Miller to do it properly. But I guess there was some kind of personality mesh that made Keith see past Charlie's limitations. How about the 2nd "Hold me, Love me" section of "I'm Free"? A total rhythmic disaster.
@andyenglandd yes but i mean. this track´s been overdubbed after the show, what we hearing is not necesarilly what theyre playing. if you look at "dead flowers" from the same show its so f*** obvious
@xDeadMisfitsx Are you crazy ? I hope you are kidding. Taylor, since his beginnings with John Mayal, is one of the best blues/rock guitar players ever ! One the same level as Peter Green / Danny Kirwan, Mike Bloomfield, ... Taylor is not a very good songwriter, but he added so much to the songs at this time (Sway, Shine A Light, Moonlight Mile, Time Waits For No One, Winter, Love In Vain... the list goes on), he should have been credited to some songs.
Mick Taylor?? Um, KEEF is the one playin' all the licks in this video.. Yes, Taylor was a great blues guitarist, but hes playing all the rhythm in this song.
@MrMattyHaze - Exactly right. Mick Taylor was very good, great even. However, Keith Richards is (was) the engine of rock's mightiest machine ... The Rolling Stones. Mick, best frontman ever. Brian Jones, blazing genius until 1969. Ron Wood, looks like a Stone, acts like a Stone and totally fits in with the band. Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts and Keith Richards were rock's greatest rhythm section. Keef Riffhard? Greatest rhythm guitarist ... riffmeister ... heart and soul of the band.
I always thought this song perfectly embodied the stones, just dirty driving rock and roll. Something you could play down an alley way way too loud to piss off the neighbors with a smile on your face.
Mick Taylor made the Rolling Stones into a kick ass band. It's not like Keith was rocking this hard with Brian Jones or Wood. Keith is phenomenal at rythym and combined with the lead of Mick Taylor they were the best ever. Mick Tayor was the yin to Keef's yang.
Folks, I saw The Rolling Stones' entire career. Yeah, I've been aroudn that long. My point? I saw Keith Richards live in 1979 with his pick-up band, The New Barbarians. He played lead that night. Mick Taylor had NOTHING on Keith Richards, folks. I believe Keith Richards is rock's all-time greatest rhythm guitarist with nobody else even being close to him. Riffing? NOBODY touches Keith. Though he's "The Sinners' Sinner," Keef Riffhard is THE main Rolling Stone ... and has 9 lives! FoJ
Just my opinion: The Rolling Stones are rock's second-greatest band ... above Led Zeppelin ... above The Who ... above ANY other band except, well, you know who! Early-1970s like this video? Top of their game. They truly WERE the greatest rock band in the world ... after 1970 ... until sometime in the 1980s.
Mick, greatest frontman. Bill, Charlie, Keith, greatest rhythm section. Main Stone? KEEF RIFFHARD!!! Rock on ... FoJ
The footage is so messed up, Micks on rhythm here and Keith on lead, but the show Keith playing some song on the tele later in the video, even though both parts are in standard. Keith does the solo, yet it shows him on the tele.
Good God, but they're giving it rice here, aren't they? Even Charlie's getting his rocks off. Utterly bastard superb. The Stones in the Mick Taylor era - Rock just doesn't get any better.
@gus4u2c The footage was taken over three, or so, nights of them playing in the some joint in Texas. They must of lost the footage, or need to add footage and they put in a clip of a different night. If you have the DVD/Blu-Ray you see that they all change outfits and the whole lot between songs.
Mick Taylor said, he was bored from the Stones music ... that's why he left, ... and rather do nothing, - or is there anything worth mentioning, besides some weird music he did with Jack Bruce...
I mean as great as he was as a guitar player , as a person he was screwed up
My God. How much do I love this video? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh, My favorite song on the Ladies and Gentlemen movie. Sometimes I'm sexy, kickin' the stall all night. Sometimes I'm so shy, Got to be worked on, Don't got no bark or bite. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh, Love it!
@FreeStuff4TheWorld Looks like you have something in common then. Only difference is, you are a nobody, and the Stones are one of the greatest bands to ever walk this planet. Got it, DICK
Great movie, but at times Mick Taylor gets a little carried away, luckily on the albums, Sticky fingers, Exile, Ya ya's, goats and it's only rock n roll, Mick and Keith cut down on the overplaying creating the greatest rock on earth. Keith Richards is a rhythmic virtuoso and the man in the Stones!
THIS is The Greatest Rock and Roll Band In The World at their GREATEST. Jaggers Lead Singer vibe is Crazy and Taylor slide is INSANE all while The Human Riff holds the Rhythm down. Awesome.

I believe that Mick taylor is better than keith but this is where keith proved that he is capable of rockin with mick taylor. One of the greatest stones song.
@Lordcahoona But when you listen Taylor play love in vain or Gimme shelter he proved that keith can't rockin with him ... In this movie , Keith use only chuck berry riffs and used pentatonic major tabs ... Anyone who practice since a bit time guitar can do it .
@fondofrory If any one could do it, why is he Keith Richards? Yes, many can play the notes, but Keith's genius cannot be captured in musical notation! Peace.
@LeGrandeOrange Any one who pratcice since a bit time guitar can do it .. It's very easy .. But Keith Richards is the man because he wrote the most beautiful music in this world ... He was a genius , with a lot of idea . But he wasnt so strong with a guitar .
@mnaicck Agree. I understand that Keith isn't a virtuoso, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be considered a great guitarist. Chuck Klosterman put it best, comparing Keith to admitted viruoso Joe Satriani: "[it's ridicuous to] suggest that Joe Satriani is a better guitarist than Keith Richards, even though there is no doubt that "Satch" is countless times more proficient. To argue otherwise would be like saying George Will is a better writer than Ernest Hemingway because George uses big words."
I haue to agree with the writer of the coment that nothing is written today that will be around in 500 years. how true. today all music is diluted...rap music is horrible and britney spears and all the rest suck
I think what is missing with today's music is the lack of swagger.Nearly every modern act is more concerned about how they look. The Stones were the ugliest bastards around yet they played as if their balls were dragging along the ground. This attitude of looks over machismo started with political correctness in the 90s,then the shoe gazers of grunge perfected the no balls attitude,Which leaves us with today's situation of aging legends having bigger balls than the young wimps.
love this. thanks for posting. charlie is a brilliant drummer. i think this song really shows off his drumming skills. brilliant. and the horns are great too.
@zalen292 Absolutely, I love Zep's albums but the Stones were much better live. In my opinion nobody could beat the Who live in their prime, though I wasn't around to see any of them so my opinion is just based off old videos lol
Gee, Keif is playing both a Telecaster and Les Paul in this song. How does he do that? :-) Maybe that's the clue to the missing first chorus, it's laying somewhere on the editing floor.
This video is amazing and should be studied for one reason and one reason only- this is how a singer fixes a song- the entire band including horn section came in too early before the second verse, Jagger had to keep singing and remember what to sing out of context- sounds easy, It isnt trust me. For the rest of the song hes constantly, to his credit, trying to figure out where eveyone else is...and actually does it.
i never noticed that, until i watched it again after reading your comment. very interesting. and just shows why mick jagger is the best frontman ever, and why they have lasted so long. other bands would have stopped and started the song again. but you can see mick trying to concentrate and ad lib some of it. thanks for that. it should be used in music classes. to show 'this is how it's done.'
@michelle88960 , the old stuff with great frontmen especially Jagger and Roth you can learn the most from. Roth had a great veteran move I saw on a video, if I can find it Ill send it to ya, he had tassles on his pants, he went towards the end of the stage and sang and before he moved one foot he raised both legs one at a time to make sure no one had a hand on them, then he moved, youd never notice it, but it was like putting a directional on in a car before making a turn, seemless.
The studio version lyric there would be, When you lay me out, my heart pumps louder than a big bass drum. Here, it sounds like, When you roll me out, ... Just listened to it once but I've been trying to figure out what the hell Mick sings for YEARS! lol
@Partlizard At 1:56 Jaggar starts "yeah when you call my name, I salivate like pavlov's dog. Yeah, when you lay me out, my heart is beating louder than a big bass drum alright"
People don't realize how awesome Keith Richards is. I saw him live and in concert in 1977. He's the very best riffer in the history of rock. Number two would be Slash (Saul Hudson). Mick was the best frontman in the business ... ever. The Stones' rhythm section is the best ever. I'm telling you, folks. Keith Richards was the engine that drove rock's mightiest machine. I've seen their entier career. Yep. The whole thing. Keef Riffhard for President!
An Incredible "Rock and Roll" band at their peak! We will never see another Rock and Roll band of this calibre ever again. Not today with the way music has gone. Thankfully we have videos like this to remind us all!
@Sudbury67: A big part of the problem is that the best ideas in this art form are used up. After more than 50 years in existence Rock N Roll finds itself in the same position that Jazz had reached by the mid'70s: the best ideas and major movements had all been done. Just about everything that one could do with the genre had been tried and there wasn't much left to say.
00:14.....impressive package lol

This video is amazing and should be studied for one reason and one reason only- this is how a singer fixes a song- the entire band including horn section came in too early before the second verse, Jagger had to keep singing and remember what to sing out of context- sounds easy, It isnt trust me. For the rest of the song hes constantly, to his credit, trying to figure out where eveyone else is...and actually does it.

@glowasted999 also at 1:00 jaggers face tells it all, hes like "I dont know...but we'll keep goin'"

i never noticed that, until i watched it again after reading your comment. very interesting. and just shows why mick jagger is the best frontman ever, and why they have lasted so long. other bands would have stopped and started the song again. but you can see mick trying to concentrate and ad lib some of it. thanks for that. it should be used in music classes. to show 'this is how it's done.'

Just listened to it once but I've been trying to figure out what the hell Mick sings for YEARS! lol

Thank you so much for posting!!
