  • Best Billy Idol ever. yes. Period.

  • one of the most beautiful songs what I already heard ...

    touches my heart ...

  • im sorry but i just realized that the picture looks like something youd see on like a grave stone or a tribute after someone dies . creepy.

  • Goes well with "Arcadia: Missing"

  • This song should be 12 minutes long. Its one of those songs that you want to not end.

  • This picture fits so well with this song...

  • a beautiful song!!

  • i find so much insurpation for my stories in billys music.

  • Was quite a surprise, this one as the B-side of Eyes Without a Face. Now this B-side is one of my faves of Billy. Thanx for this!

  • @Ullyvean no problem ;)

  • I play this song to my retard neighbour everytime the wanker pisses me off as a hint. I've loved this song since it first came out. God I feel old now!

  • This came to mind one day, and I've been listening to it a lot lately. Definitely one of the underrated tracks off of Rebel Yell.

  • @MrNotbadyou total its one of my favorites.

  • it almost sounds like hes having a deep conversation with some one

  • this is a song that my friends and i use to listen to,while sitting on my roof looking up at the stars drinking a beer or 2,or having cool conversations. i always have such fond memories of this song and we use to play it like 20 times, cos the song was nevaer long enough.this song should be much longer.a great piece of music.

  • this song makes me sleepy nite nite.

  • My favorite Billy Idol song ever. Thank you Billy for being there while I grew up. I'm so happy to have gone to HS and College in the 80's. Great times. Still think you're hot in 2011. 8-)

  • Can I dying in your arms, Billy? *sigh* XD

  • @marypunkidol90 hey me frist.

  • The Pop hits always take second place.

  • one of his lesser know songs but still one of my favorites.

  • billy idol -the dead next door ,is beautiful,music.gijoe989

  • Billy Idol makes up 35% of the 1980's!

  • @THESHOTTS1217 id say its closer to 40%

  • @wolfoshea Yeah, I can agree on that! and Motley Crue makes up the other 60 lol!

  • @THESHOTTS1217 no the crues about another 57% and madonna is the other 3.

  • Always used to hear it when I was down...and still do!

  • i know its about a nucualar war but to me its always been about zombies.

  • @wolfoshea To me, before I heard what he wrote it about, it was about death, and people losing loved ones. One day they were there, the next they weren't. So it's always been a very poignant song to me for that reason.

  • one Error, Silent Terror !!!!!

  • THIS IS SUCH A RENEWED MEMORIES LIFE SONG FOR ME. I FEEL SO IN TRANCE WITH THOUGHT WHEN I HEAR THIS SONG. ONE OF THE MANY GREAT IDOL SONGS.

  • Fuckin A

  • Billy Idol`s music emits so much emotion. I love this album(I still have two copies on cassette) and this song always gave me chills. It still does. He puts so much into a song that it stays with you even after the song is over.

  • sad memories love you & miss you Norm!!

  • end of love...1984"

  • growing up as idols fan in the 80s and going to one of his concerts i was always a fan of his style and voice. i wasnt much of a punker but he had awsome soulful music.

  • @rmarsonutube And with Mr. Steve Stevens to round out the sound... it was a match made in heaven.

  • @liabatud67 i know what you mean. im so glad the boys are back together again.

  • such a wonderful piece of art!

  • the haunting melody of this song gives it it's appeal

  • 55 and i still love him!

    Ans

  • Does anyone know if the effect that Steve Stevens was using was a chorus, or a flanger?

  • I'm feelin' pretty old now after hearing this song for the first time years. Good times.

  • MASTERPIECE..THANX BILLY!!

  • It's kind of funny, in an ironic way (if that's the word) because the rest of the album has all these fast, rocking songs then all of a sudden here's this slow song about a serious subject. LOL

  • My first Album was Billy Idol.....i love the 80´s .....

  • @Abraxus81.... My first album was an extended Devo single and then Gen X's album(an import my mom took me to Bleecker Bob's in the village to order.) I got Plastic Surgery by Adam Ant too the same day..it was in stock..YAY...still have all of them at my parents house)..AWESOME!!

  • The coolest creepy ballad ever!

  • Damn I still sing this just to "hum a tune", 20+ years later.

  • hey guys listen to my peice of crap cover of this song

  • Mr. W. Broad...........YOU are still such a Babe.

Sincerely, The "Dead" Siren Next Door

    Thank you for your "Ear"!

  • We still Dig You Billy!-an association.

  • I remember Steve Stevens saying this song was unplayable live, because they couldn't keep the drums in synch with his PCM-41 delay unit, which is what he used to create that guitar sound.

  • @Kohntarkosz -

sounds like the perfect excuse not to even try the song live... but why the Hell would the band want to do this one live anyway? I mean, fucks sake, it would COMPLETELY kill any energy and momentum of the show. Even as an encore, it would be a disappointing way to put a lid on a night of in-your-face songs. Now, as for Stevens' "reasoning," perhaps he should have talked to Neil Peart's/Alex Lifeson's live techs around the same time.

  • grown with this album, I was only 14teen. it touches my heart. thank you

  • @ThePumalives I was 18 myself, I wore out copy after copy of Rebel Yell.

  • don't those songs with mysterious meaning that leaves ample room for personal interpretations just stick to your mind ?

in any artform this is appreciated with high regards.

however, billy didn't dare to mention the true

meaning of the song in fear of it's own government like he was in the USSR or something, and that's just not the same.

but then, at least billy had the balls where others just cowered away like coaches.

  • The line was that this song was about a nuclear war - but when I first heard it years ago my interpretation was of a neighbour or someone (unknown to you) on another street who had suddenly died, for whatever reason. For that person its the end of everything of this world and theres no rescue, nothing to stop it and no return ever - as is eventually the case with all!

  • Yep that was the same thing I got when I first heard it. In a way that applies, cuz if it's about nuclear war then a LOT of someone's neighbors will die around them! LOL Macabre but true.

  • i think it allso is a meta4 for destructive things that cause great harm, like a nuclear bomb, but also other things that cant be exclaimed...Don't hear their plans, dont eat out of their hands.

  • @Onetonofmayo It's don't hear their cries, actually, I believe.

  • I think this is really a confession of Billy's confirming his knowledge of Jim Morrison being alive.

  • To me it's for someone who has made a terrible mistake, one they can't recover from. Death, for some is a mistake. They want to be back in the land of the living, but they can't, hence, the deep sadness of this song.

  • its not only a great song its simile a dream

  • yes....and is very particoular

  • One of my favorite songs, thanks for posting

  • ^_^

  • hey

  • billy yes our last song from 30.11. guys wer the best ever....kisses a saluti

  • Very good song!

  • Not long ago I checked for this song and there were no postings of it, now there's like 3 or 4! LOL Interesting.

  • I love this track and havent heard it for around 20 years thanks mary I love you

  • almost perfect,i love billy even if he seems a little gay. :D

exxelent performer, would have hated to mis his music.

  • Makes me think of how many of my friends I have lost to the horror of war. I'm in the Army and I would just like to say that freedom...isn't free.

  • Thanks for your service, StaightEdge4Life88! Cheers...

  • he (finally) said after being asked a gazillion times (without answering) that it was his view of a nuclear war. It's haunting, sad, and a slow killer to those who aren't killed by the blast but close enough to the radiation (next door).

  • Finally!! LOL I've been waiting to find the meaning for over 15 years, since I first heard it, I kid you not! LOL Totally cool! LOL

  • thanks, i was wondering wth billy was thinking about when he wrote it.

  • It's weird how we base lifes experience to music or a song. But this song plays in my soul, oh so very deep, and cuts me to the beat at the end. This reminds me of the passing of my mother just in the next room to CANCER. But it wasn't in a bad way cuz she died in our home not in the hospital. And you put it on You-Tube 2 days after her birthday. Havn't heard that tune fer years. Once again by the power of sight and sound made 1 drop of the ocean release from my biological camera. Thanks Mark C
