I simply beated him by doing that melee-move the Ranger in Novac teaches you with a powerfist.

I took a while for me to realize I had the move, but after that I killed him on my third try.

my favourite weapon in this game is the anti-materiel rifle.if you are in sneak mode and you have a high perception you can kill a deathclaw in one shot in the head.and a alpha deathclaw too.

the all mighty Legate Lanius spent more time unconsious than actually fighting.

Damn but he was tough for me, i was lvl 22 with high intelligence, speech and sneak but low weapon and unarmed :P It took 5 mines and Boone shooting him in the head while i was running in circles with out any armor so that he wouldnt have caught me.

i have unarmed in 20 o 25... and i do a lot more damage than you w/ the balistic fist (best weapon in game, total op in PC), some kind of bug maybe?

another good start is w/ the anti material sniper sneak critical attack at the beggining.
