Honestly, I'm an east coast surfer in the US and I get the yips sometimes before I paddle into hurricane surf that tops out at, eh...8 ft? And I'm in top shape. In my wildest dreams I couldn't imagine ever paddling out in this...I'd be on the rocks like a rag doll. How this dude was able to duckdive that is mind blowing. With all that said.....HORRIBLE timing on that paddle out haha
At 0:38 I would've duckdived already he was so close. But nooo. He timed it terribly and and it set him back. And he had to take 16132652326 more on the head. And at the end there was the perfect lull. I dont think I would have even gotten my hair wet...
@izagury haha, that doesn't look easy at all, looks big even on youtube. I havn't been out in anything over 10ft much, we can get some sick waves here though, look up "the cribbar" :)
@izagury The pressure of potential scrubbing on the rocks makes this a more challenging affair than struggling to get out on a big day at a beachy where the only consequence of losing the battle is a dented ego.
...plus he is duck diving in a full suit that is probaly a 3.2+ at least wich is probally giving him an extra 7 to 10 pounds. And paddling in the white water is a bictch beacuse you get so much air bubbles that you much only half of what you paddle!
Mad effort, mad respect, the way this guy is tranquil and strong paddler he probally had some fun ass waves!!!!!!
Its not even that big, he's duck diving almost every wave...if you can duck dive it and not bail your board, it's not that big....his timing was just bad, he jumped in right at the beginning of like a 10 wave set....bad timing
Knarly dude. I've been aight inside like that. Went right onto the rocks. Not fun at all. I'm only 14 so I had my dad's gun because my board is to small and I got destroyed. But all in all I got out. The main thing is just keep trying, and hold ontothe fucking board for dear life!
Mad respect for ya bro. You got balls of iron! If you would have given up even for a second, you would have been fish food and washed up on that big ass rock behind you. I hope you had a mackin surf session and it was worth that bitch of a paddle out.
another reason why you cant compare surfing with other sports especially skateboarding or snowboarding. This is the equivalent of a 'ski-lift' taking you up the hill.
@e7573t Well the paddle out may be more tiring than a ski lift.... But if you think short surf rides (with the majority of your time being spent floating there in the water) are anything compared to a day of skiing, you've lost your mind. See, with skiing you aren't riding a little 30 second ride on a tiny liquid hill; you're riding an entire mountain, regardless of how steep it gets. And you can't tire out halfway, gotta keep movin...
@e7573t Not all skiing invloves taking a chairlift, try backcountry where you have to hike hours through waist deep snow, isnt the easiest thing either.
That being said though, i give big props to this guy. I cannot even imagine paddling out in surf like this or understand how you can duck dive white water like that. I bodyboard and duckdiving is probably a bit different than surfing but i find it difficult to duck dive waves half that size.
