Steve Vai is okay. All his shit sounds the same, Paul Gilbert is only good when he plays other people's shit. LOL. SHREDDING MY ASS. Eric Johnson is good. No disrespect... and John Petrucci has like... 3 good songs. Don't put them in the same Category as an improvising king like Satriani. Shit heads like you kill the name of Legends like this...
@Zizzister a cat getting burned alive sounds better than Justin fuckin Beiber! LOL..but really ,, why are we bringing THAT kid into a thread like this ?? i mean really!! who fuckin cares about him anyway? were mostly rock fans and shredders ourselves so Beiber doesnt belong in this thread lol
i like blues and GOOD OL' ROCK 'N' ROLL as opposed to shredding like this, but satriani and evh are the only shredders i respect and listen to because they shred but it is still music as opposed to a lot of modern day shredders who just go up down scales as fast as they can and claim to be great musicians. speed and technique doesn't necessarily mean good music.
@TheLar1969 I am not disgree-ing that eddie played things of this nature 30 years ago, but he admits he stole most his stuff from guys in the 60s, not to mention what makes joe so great is that he took every piece of music he every heard and liked growing up and has made himself just a culmination of awsome guitar work. Also who are you calling big shots, joe really doesn't have a ton of recognition in comparison to the so called "king" evh
@TheLar1969 Isn't it funny how there are only a limited amount of techniques you can learn on guitar, and that people have already figured out all of the useful ones?
Hahahahah he's so good that I want to think that he's using some sort of backing track while he acts like he's playing that on stage, but hes just that good
Dragonforce would be spinning in their graves right now, but unfortunately they aren't dead yet.
Amazing, amazing, AMAZING guitarist. A greatest hits album of Satch was one of the first albums I ever bought. My first guitar was an Ibanez. I wish that I had even 1/10000th of his skill.

From a guitarist point of view, yngwie is technically the best. But i dont enjoy his music. I just sit there, open mouthed, for a song or two and then i go listen to something more appealing. What makes a guitarist great is not his or her technical ability, its a feel for music. Satriani and Vai have far more of that then Yngwie. Just my opinion
Yngwie is not the best technical guitarist. He's fast as hell that's true, but speed is not a technical thing... Vai makes much more technical stuff and MAB as well... And MAB is even faster than yngwie. But I agree that yngwie's music is hardly enjoyable. He's great I admit it, and he should go on, but for example I prefer Jani Liimatainen's [ex-sonata] music than yngwie's. And Satch with his hat will always be the master :-D
Yngwie is good but not the best from ANY point of view. Most of what he does are archepeggios and scales which any expert level guitarist can do. Satch is the best period, and has taught some of the best. Think of it this way; I can garuntee that Satch can play all of Yngwie's songs near flawless, but I couldn't say the same for Yngwie..
erm steve vai has much better technique than Yngwie and is also more precious and just as fast if he wants to. Yngwie is still some kind of god for me
3 words...Arpeggios From Hell...It is rather sterile like a modal etude, but you can't deny the skill it takes to play. The position shifting itself puts him up there with Satch and in my mind past him. College music majors that are guitarists all try to play his arrangements of Bach and Gabrielli fugues.
College students that want to be something in music dont play Malmsteens arrangements. They play jazz. Cuz jazz teacher you everything. The flashy things (tapping, whammy) comes when you know all the theory that jazz teaches you. THATS THE WAY TO GO.
WRONG AGAIN. College students with merit play Malmsteens Paganini Caprice arrangements and Gabrieli arrangements...NOT JAZZ. Pot heads in beanies with turtle necks go to bars to play jazz...reputable musicians play western art arrangements. There is MUCH more to Malmsteen's arrangements than flashy techniques. Jazz does not teach you theroy either..Jazz is pretty much breaking traditional rules of theroy with 9th and 11th chords..especially fusion.Western art music uses traditional theroy.
HAHA! Are you kidding me? JAzz doesnt teach you theory? there is no genre based more on theory than jazz. Malmsteens arrangemts are techniqually challenging. Thats all. Explain the difficult theory of his arrangments. Jazz is the most advanced genre there is.
I'm smart enough to know jazz doesn't teach you theroy. Western art is based on theroy. Jazz is just breaking rules..NOT THEROY. Malmsteens arrangements are transcriptions of real music repertoire that has lasted literally hundreds of years. Jazz is just improv...no real difficulty in making stuff up. Play a Paganini Caprice and then play In The Mood...see which is harder...difficulty aside, western art music has MUCH more merit across the globe than jazz which is relatively new comparitavely
What does the merit have anything to do with complexity? And you say Jazz is just breaking rules... To break rules you need to know all of them, right? Thats right. And second, there are no rules in music. Maybe in Harmonic minor/melodic minor-Malmsteens music.
What does complexity have to do with merit? Wrong...you don't need to know rules to break them...anyone can improv jazz with little or no training...If you think there are no rules in music, you have obviously never heard of Johann Sebastian Bach...just shows how little music knowledge you have. You just state opinion, I state technical musical fact. I have a BM, Ed. degree in music..I know. Major and minor are just 2 of the 7 modes...if you knew about music, you would understand.
Ïf you knew about music you wouldn't claim to know a lot about music and then claim that jazz is just improv and that improvisation is really easy. It's crazy how little you know.
You are just showing your ignorance now. I know plenty...I teach music theroy...Middle school kids can improv...not so much with arpeggios from hell or Gabrielli Suites...don't argue on a subject you know nothing about.
do you know how much theory you must know to be able to improvise like in jazz, or like Satch ? You have to know like every freaking scale and mode and everything.
WRONG again....you only need to know blues and pentatonic scales...rudimentary at best. They are the first scales you learn in beginning guitar classes...nice try at a guess though.
I would have to disagree with this one...Satch plays this song better, although I would much rather listen to Paul play than Joe...especially one of his Mr. Big solos!
yea im not a huge satch fan i like what he does and i like his tone but hes way better then herman li. satch actually like plays with emotion for the most part. speed is cool but not really expressive and it seems like all herman is about is speed most of the time
I totally agree with you on all your points...even the not so keen on Slipknot part... My drummer...going outside the metal realm would be Dennis Chambers, but you have to give a nod to Joey, Lars, Carmine Appice, (sp), Greg Bissonette, and the guy that played for Quiet Riot and W.A.S.P....sorry forgot his name, but he has SKILLZ!
Which drumber is it who does the show off thing where he is lifted upside down? I think Montly Crew's did something, was it his trap rotated or something?
The best band ever would have eddy, nugent, and satch on guitars, ray charls on keyboard, Mich Michle on drums, and the bass player of Zeplen. With guest stars of Jimmy hendricks, Kerk Hamit, and Eric Claptin. I don't really think they need a singer. (Exscuse my spelling)
@jikarpert who cares if he's a stupid swedish guy he still plays crappy music and he's just a mindless shredder who can't even compare to Satch so don't even bring him up more on this video
You know, talking about Malmsteen, I am sure you would agree here.
You know what I want to see? I want to see a new band come out in 2010. This band should so consist of the following people: Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani rocking out at Guitar, Neil Peart (From Rush) as drummer and Vadim Pruzhanov (From Dragonforce) as Keyboard. Anyone else agree? The band should be called like, "Godheads of Rock", or "Rock Monsters" (Lol)
u see i disagree entirely noone who ever played with or enjoyed listening to dragonforce has the right to stand on a stage with satriani nevermind play with him
i you want to learn to play this watch carefully, but enjoy!!

theres a big difference between dragonforce and Satch. i dont get why people compare his skills to herman li. so yeah, i agree with you

Did u know that Joe is Hermans idol and he palyed on same stage with him on namn 2008... But personally i like moe about Herman
jani14jani 2 years ago
yea im not a huge satch fan i like what he does and i like his tone but hes way better then herman li. satch actually like plays with emotion for the most part. speed is cool but not really expressive and it seems like all herman is about is speed most of the time

touché, but why not throw in the drumber of slip knot instead? He's crazy. I don't really like the band, but the drumber deserves some props.

Joey Jordison says: "I have a double bass and my feet aren't very fat so that makes me good"
scienceguyJ 2 years ago
drumber? It's Joey Jordison by the way but Neil Peart is my personal favourite drummer
cody13smith 2 years ago
I totally agree with you on all your points...even the not so keen on Slipknot part... My drummer...going outside the metal realm would be Dennis Chambers, but you have to give a nod to Joey, Lars, Carmine Appice, (sp), Greg Bissonette, and the guy that played for Quiet Riot and W.A.S.P....sorry forgot his name, but he has SKILLZ!

Which drumber is it who does the show off thing where he is lifted upside down? I think Montly Crew's did something, was it his trap rotated or something?
blindman275 2 years ago
that would be Tommy Lee from Motley Crue in the Wildside video.
vmi3301 2 years ago
The best band ever would have eddy, nugent, and satch on guitars, ray charls on keyboard, Mich Michle on drums, and the bass player of Zeplen. With guest stars of Jimmy hendricks, Kerk Hamit, and Eric Claptin. I don't really think they need a singer. (Exscuse my spelling)
blindman275 3 years ago
no a good band would be EVH and satch on guitar, neil pert on drums and geddy lee on bass and robert plant on vocals.

xxRockst4r 2 years ago
You can, for harmonising =D
pinkcheesey101 2 years ago
@pinkcheesey101 yeah sure but yngwie and Satch ? No.... yngwie can stay to his crappy music and let satch do the real deal
xxRockst4r 2 years ago
cant you go fuck youre self son of a bich??? yngve är svensk din lilla bög jävel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jikarpert 2 years ago
@jikarpert who cares if he's a stupid swedish guy he still plays crappy music and he's just a mindless shredder who can't even compare to Satch so don't even bring him up more on this video
xxRockst4r 2 years ago
quite the opposite...Satch blows.
vmi3301 2 years ago
But, why would one harmonize over Satch?
ACDCfan111 2 years ago
I Would say Cliff Burton (Metallica) or John Myung (Dream Theater)
cody13smith 2 years ago
YAY, this one is the best live performance of satch boogie I've seen!

Malmesteen and Satriani?
I respect Satriani alot because he can combine your techinical, metal style guitar-playing and still make it into an abseloutely awesome melody.
Whereas Malmsteen's songs bore me.
B94241 3 years ago
You know, talking about Malmsteen, I am sure you would agree here.
You know what I want to see? I want to see a new band come out in 2010. This band should so consist of the following people: Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani rocking out at Guitar, Neil Peart (From Rush) as drummer and Vadim Pruzhanov (From Dragonforce) as Keyboard. Anyone else agree? The band should be called like, "Godheads of Rock", or "Rock Monsters" (Lol)
Yes band much?
olan231 3 years ago
u see i disagree entirely noone who ever played with or enjoyed listening to dragonforce has the right to stand on a stage with satriani nevermind play with him
XownedftwX 3 years ago
Well hey it was just an idea, I just wanted to see people's opinions about it.
olan231 3 years ago
have to say but i think he should be in the top 10 of the best Guitarists in the world. HAS TO BE! :D
