  • @MacInDaPants just because u dont understand another culture dosnt mean u should be so rude. if u didnt like it ur a moron for watching 3 mins of it thats ur own damn falt

  • This is NOT Kabuki. The costumes and especially hairstyle are clearly taken from a famous NOH-play, but the dance is faster than typical Noh-dance, more like a fast Kabuki-dance with western influence.

And the music is western music with some Japanese elements.

  • Cool!

    this is kabuki then?(:

  • these look like something Lady Gaga would wear...

  • @mathfreak879 HAHAHAAHAA! That;s what I think, too!

  • awesome even though its weird

  • This is some awesome trippy shit.

  • i want the white wig

  • @morecowbell0889 lmao!!!!!!!

  • God, i love this music...!

I wish i could get it as an mp3 somewhere...

  • I've been searching for Kabuki vids starring Ishikawa Goemon, but i just can't find any...

  • reminds me of jiraya from naruto xD

  • Cool! but this isnt Noh.

  • unlike other Noh parts I've seen, this was kinda interesting... or isn't this Noh?

    it is Noh right? XD

    anyway it looks kinda cool

and it makes me think of naruto in some way XD

  • @BWanime@BWanime I don't think this is noh. From my very limited knowledge and experience this is the dance of two lion spirits, called "shi-shi", typically seen in Kabuki. I don't know why they are dancing-- but it sure is rad! I just love these costumes.

  • @Ollieshini yea the costumes are cool :P

and thanks, that explains why it doesn't really look like Noh after all XD

  • Excessive zoom.

  • Where was the Noh part?

  • MukAng MonKey,, KamuKa Nung nSa Naruto,, hahhah Aztig

  • thundercats live! snarf snarf!

  • JIRAIYA!!!

  • @danigiangianni so true! XD

  • What is the name of that instrument that does that high-pitched clapping sound like to pieces of wood being struck? at 0:10 It sounds just once.

  • @seiryuukun wood block? they come in a variety of sizes and sounds. very popular in asian traditional music. essentially just two blocks of redwood banged together.

  • Strange but silly :)

  • That is very strange music....

  • ancient heavy metal head banger:D lol this was cool if i got this right the one with the red hair was the sun wasnt it?

  • japan is more cool than america!

  • @aoimahoma87 I know but who gives a shit!

  • @aoimahoma87 amen to that

  • @aoimahoma87

Wrong. Japan is DIFFERENT from America.

  • lol, theyy look funnyy, hahaha

.....KISS,lmao, theyy got some sexy hair :D

  • What in the world is this music?

  • LOL :D:D:D:D:D THIS IS VERY IDIOTIC :d

  • They r skilled not to step on the end of their wig and pull their wig off...

  • Kabuki Rock Stars........I love it.!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol

  • Reminds me of one of those metal concerts where everyone has long hair and makeup.

  • oh my god that's a show

  • This is not Noh. Just Kabuki.

  • i bet it takes years of practice 'cause the headgear looks heavy!

    awesome kimono and hair!

  • incredible

  • so is this both kabuki and noh or is it just one??

  • @missloveableicecream I think it's just Kabuki, but Noh and kabuki kind of come as a package deal, usually if it's this fast paced and undepressing it's Kabuki

  • wtf.

  • i don't understand.. what's the difference between noh and kabuki? Please teach me! I'm very interested in Japanese traditional culture! =]

  • @Yuunantoka Noh is known as the "art of walking" and every step is precise. Also, it uses masks, which means every gesture has to be specifically chosen and executed. Kabuki uses make up (mainly use of lines) and focuses more on the music and dance of the play. Still, it's nothing like a musical since the music isn't exactly ESSENTIAL in driving the plot

  • @Yuunantoka Also, the stages the two use are incredibly different. Kabuki uses the doll theatre (. . . Actually, they might both be called "doll theatre" but oh well. . .) which has a LOT of special effects (like trap doors) and a circular bit on the ground which spins. It also has a bridge (hanamichi) which extends out to the audience used by main characters. Noh uses a plain stage with four pillars (with roof) and a painted tree. Also has bridge, but goes off to side instead of 2 audience

  • I see... Thanks so much for the explanations! I'll go read up more about it base on these basics here! ^^

  • noh is more emotional

  • kabuki is more about ledgends

  • There's no theater like Noh Theater.

  • what do you mean by kabuki/noh?

  • MULLET FANTASIA

  • @shohisbubbleking HAHAHAHA now i cant look at it anymore without thinking about your comment hahaha...

  • dwaze mannen

  • I like the make up. It must be very hot though to have all that on. But I have to admit that it is very creative.

  • it seems more like noh...bc of the stage

  • 音がなあ・・・

    電子音使わずに全部日本の楽器でやってほしい

  • @Masashi19870902 yea dude I totally agree....

  • discuss the characteristics of kabuki/noh theater

  • It's called art, only idiots who can't appreciate won't understand it.

  • omg kabuki makeup and hair rulz, btw why do they say Yoooo which is one thing i like about kabuki.

  • I'm happy you have uploaded this video, even though it's illegal right? haha at least we all get to see it now. Very stylized music compared to the traditional kabuki schools.

It's great since the Shishi is my favorite character in kabuki.

  • They confetii at the end of the dance, would you happen to know where i could get that at? I need that for a kabuki performance that i am doing myself = )

  • how can u do kabuki performance if it is in classical japanese even my japanese born instructor doesnt even understand it. good luck

  • its not OFFICIAL kabuki! its for a high school play that i was asked to direct! shit! people these days XP

  • oh boy

  • EPIC HAIR BATTLE.

  • they are not that sync...

  • they looks like jerayahj!

  • beautiful ^^

  • It's not even authentic! Just listen to the music!

  • yeah i know that but it is good to watch

  • yep... sounds pretty much like a keyboard playing the strings

  • LOL xD

    They look like scene kids.

  • LOL xD

  • how many scene kids have you seen performing kabuki, wearing huge wigs, painting their faces and hands white, and making poses like them? I'm only teasing, I'm guessing you're just joking haha

  • This is so weird... yet... I can't help but watch in awe and amazement... It's such a... different art form.

  • kabuki=make up, noh=masks

  • wrong!

    wrong wrong wrong

the kanji characters of kabuki from left to right means "sing, dance, skill"

    read a fucking book

  • Actually from what i've read up about it, Kabuki was derived from the word Kubuku which means "bizarre/Out of the ordinary" so really it's supposed to mean

    The skill of acting strange?

  • it's from the word "Kabuko" meaning the art of singing and dancing

  • Actually, the original came from the verb "kabuku," meaning "off-kilter or twisted." Later, the word was used to mean "Eccentric" or "strange."

  • No, it's actually a compilation of three kanji~! Ka, for Song, Bu, for Dance, and Ki, for Skill. Look it up. =D

  • I think Kazekane was trying to differentiate between the look of Kabuki and Noh, not translating the names...

Which I agree with, the title here says Kabuki/Noh almost as if they were describing the same thing. Noh is incredibly different from Kabuki.

  • awesome!

  • head bangers!

  • O que isso representa?? dá muito medo

  • Nippon ancient heavy metal headbanging!

  • kumadori one piece!!!! yoi yoiiiiiii ahhhahahhahah

  • hi everyone!

    this is Kabuki, not Noh.

This is the Shojo, the "Lion Dance". The actors roll their long wigs (which are very heavy, as their costumes!), as the lion's mane. There are butterflyes on it and the lion tries to fight-off them! :)

  • neat! xD

  • i was thinking just the same thingxD

  • i was thought by my "comic book" that the kabuki players are all pretty and handsome, i tried to imagine that. no offense lol,all the characters that the comic draw is quite good looking. T_T..

  • Why is "Noh theater" written in the tittle if there is not Noh at all?

As other people say, it is not real Kabuki, but nowadays many famous professional actors are experimenting with different combinations.

  • amazing video i luv it

  • I don't get the narrative, but it's amazing none the less!!

  • this is trash and nothing more than broadway in costume. NOT REAL KABUKI. No real schooling.

  • so do you

  • Bill Kaulitz would be so jealous of their hair

  • I don't understand the meaning of this play at all.

  • well, some people say, the actors don't either. xD

  • its not legitimate kabuki

  • you are right

  • sweet mercy, it's jiraiya!

  • That's exactly what I thought! xD

  • Jiraiya lol

  • Amazing! Love it!!

  • Well, Dee Snider has some interesting influences.....

  • That guy with the red hair, he's from samurai shodown! I seen em! LOL

  • why is the title Kabuki / Noh Theatre??

    it's kabuki not noh

  • nice hairdo! dont they get a sore neck?

  • they swing from there hips...

    good exercise for lovehandles...

  • The wigs are made of yak fur, so I think they're pretty lightweight. Certainly no heavier than the women's katsura worn by onnagata.

  • Korya KABUKI!!!!!!!!!

    "Noh" dewa arimasen!

  • beautiful!

  • funky.

    very interesting tradition.

    peace ^__^

  • whats the name of this kind of music its so interesting.

  • I git two choices this summer. go to Japan for an expensive vacation but meet with old friends and see this theatre. or jump across the world to Uruguay and enjoy offordable summer beach with uruguay's beauties. Even though, Tokyo can still have kick ass places to hang out in

  • OK! what do they call all that shouting and screaming in the japanese traditional music. the "Yoooahh!" thing

  • "Iyoooo!" is called "kakegoe"「掛け声」in Japan.

It is used in various scenes in Japan.

For example, when we drink beer, or we succeeded in doing something.

But young people don't use it so much.

    Sorry for poor English.

  • First of all, thank you very much for youe explainations, it was very helpfull.

Second thing, you don't have to apologies for your english, it is excellent, and I wish my writing was have good as yours. Thank u

  • I want a wig like that so bad!

    Kabukirules!

  • i looooooooove the Hair :D♥

  • This was fun to watch! I am actually looking for a doll that looks like one of these characters.

  • i want the duel of kabuki and noh thats is only ah dance a ....... its my first time to watch the theatre of kabuki noh

  • That amazing to look at. I love how some age old traditions don't die out!

  • i bet they rock hard when they listen to heavy metal

  • Hell Yeah! Imagen if they hold a guitar and star bangin

  • So what style is this?? I'm writing a paper for my music class and I noticed there is both kaboki and noh theater. Is this just a combination of the two?

  • Kabuki is a traditional dance style from Japan. it originated from Noh which is an older form Japanese dance.

im using this for my paper for dance class. ^.^

  • exact same situation i'm in...someone answer please

  • Noh is a japanese style of theatre that is very serious and abstract, but Kabuki has many similarities to the American musical.

  • I'm Japanese, and I love Kabuki. But I don't much know about Kabuki dance. I like only Kabuki play(They have story).

I think this Kabuki dance is named "Kagami-jishi."

Two spirits of Chinese fantastic tigers dance at the holy place----it may be the theme of this dance.

    I'm sorry my poor English.

  • What is the name of this play? And what are these characters?

  • I love those gigantic costumes! I want one!

  • i like traditional music, because it's much older and there's history and meaning behind it. But that doesnt mean today's music isnt that good either. I admit that some of the artists are not reaching up to par, but different music has different standards. so long story short, i like them both. xD

  • Ahh....I wonder if ppl look at my culture and rap music how im looking at the japanese and this right now...
