  • nice post. Tony Bennett jumps this number on his legendary 1962 Carnegie Hall set

  • Why can't black people be this cool anymore! Straw hats are so cool!

  • What a great period piece. At times the lady sounds a bit like Mae West. Thanks for this video.

  • Oddly staged, with a little white girl (Mitzi) leading black kids in their part of the number, and the well-dressed white folks who apparently have trekked down to the black part of town to see this outdoors revival meeting - ? Which is so infectious that Lillian and her male buddy can't resist leaping up to join in, to the displeasure of the ritzy matron - ?

  • There's a good version by Belle Baker on archive.org from 1929. Almost exactly like this version but less hiss.

  • This is truly just great. I wish I could find the lyrics to this particular version. It's amazing.

  • Black Bass Social has better songs.

  • Is it from "Honey" (1930)?

  • @BuyBenco It is indeed!

  • @BuyBenco NO, ITS CECIL B. DEMILE'S MADAM SATAN.

  • @baldrottweiler I'm sure it's Honey. Paramount 1930.

  • Is that Tess Gardella (singing "Brothers and sisters.." in the beginning of the number?) I love this clip and it never fails to make me smile! P.S. That's an incredibly cute Mitzi Green leading the child singers. Thanks!!

  • it be nice to see the whole picture feature better priint lilian royh isnt popular on home video atthis moment

  • Published: New York: Famous Music Corp., copyright 1930

  • Love Lillian Roth..thanks for posting.

  • Should be the movie "Honey" (1930), I guess....

  • Funny as Sh**!

  • One of my favourite tunes! Which movie does this clip come from?

  • Very enjoyable, but skeets Gallagher looks like a moron,he should of been edited out of the final print.

  • @glawsny I agree with you, glawsny. I was almost embarrassed for him. :)

  • Awesome post thanks!

  • What a great piece of cinematic history!

    Thanks for posting.

  • WOW! And besides the above-named, Richard(Skeets) Gallagher is in there, someplace. I think a few-years later, Paramount tried to approximate-this number again in a Mae West. The results were okay, but it couldn't stand-up to the original! Thanks. R.J.

  • Now I know where the Boswell Sisters got this tune! Thanks!

  • Wow... I never saw this version... only Susan Hayward's remarkable perforamce in "I'll Cry Tomorrow"...

  • Great number, shame Lillian Roth's Paramount contract prohibited her from recording commerical records. She did not record this song commerically till 1955.
