Started watching the show since it started last year on sky atlantic, one of the most gripping, funny, sometimes horrific, enthralling, sad and just pure gold, i love it! Right up there with Dexter, one of the best! The ending couldn't have been better, a real tear jerker, pure gold!
I haven't been able to watch the finale piece, since 2006, the first and the last time that I saw it. Even now, I can't stop crying.
This reminds us the importance of express our feelings and say "love you" Thanks SFU for make me feel better person. I'm completely agree with The New York Times: "the best finale ever"
Nothing in this universe is sadder than the death of Ben in Thomas Wolfe's "Look Homeward Angel" ..."we can believe in the nothingness of life, we can believe in the nothingness of death and life after death-but who can believe in the nothingness of Ben?" "Old Ben, when shall we see HIS like again?"
I wish that they would have shown the death of George, Maggie, Billie and his mom, but I think it would be kinda unnecessary since they're not like the MAIN main characters...
Uuuummm. i think I might've made a huge mistake. I have no idea what I just watched and suddenly I'm all curious and want to know more about all these people and what this clip means; and then I realize I've just spoiled an entire TV-show for myself.
But... is it still worth it? Oh god I wish I hadn't seen this!!!
@NUBF this is one of the best written and acted dramas ever produced for television. Just rent the dvds and enjoy regardless that you saw part of the finale. I have seen the entire series many times and I laugh through the entire series and cry at the finale every time. The best word to describe this show is "authentic." It will never take a shortcut or easy way to a punchline or the truth. This drama delivers 'life' in the most unexpected way -through death. Watch with no distractions.
@NUBF Trust me, I watched this first accidentally too, then watched the series, IT IS SOOOOOO WORTH IT. Trust me. When you watch the whole series then you get to this part you will just cry lol. Trust me it's worth it.
Keith's death is so depressing. This show was not something I would ever imagine myself watching, and people cannot imagine that I actually liked it, but it's one of the greatest shows I've ever seen, up there with The Wire. It's stuff like this that makes television worth watching. Bravo.
The cut from old Claire's eyes, to the dates of her birth and death, and then to young Claire's eyes as she's driving off into the distance with the next 80 years of her life all before her, is one of the best ever.
Just finished watching all five seasons. I thought the first season was great, the second season pretty good. From the third season and on, i felt it got really uninteresting. Cheap cliff-hangers, extremely unrealistic character development, and just far fetched writing in general. I must say that as a whole, i think this show is very overrated. It's not bad, but definately overrated.
Wonderful show. Kind of sad that Claire lived another 34 years without anyone. Brenda was the last one before her to die in 2051, she didnt pass until 2085.
@nyhilusofborg, Um, she was 102 and her husband was several years older than her. Do the math. Never mind common sense, it said she outlived him in the obituary for her character on the website and in the Collector's DVD set.
@shutitok you're right i misspoke... i meant that she probably wasn't living for all 34 years without anyone who cared about her. but please don't condescend to me. not everyone in the world owns the collector's edition.

I just watched this for the first time in almost 6 years and all I can say is Wow! A great ending to one of the best shows of all time. It brought the tears right back.

honestly the best ending tv show ever... @kadafi84 That's because life and death are as profound as it gets. The messages throughout the series are very positive no matter what condition you are in: "you are alive, soon you wont be. I cannot think of a more sincere way the show creators could have said thank you to the fans than this. My partner and I loved this show. When you hear your favourite show is ending, you sometimes worry about the finale, such as, will they give everything justice and will I feel all the better about having watched it based solely on the ending. Anyways, this ending truly gives justice to every single minute I spent watching the show. Such a beautiful show and phenomenal ending.
@JakeNeverRises, TOTALLY! That is the one part, assuming I'm not already bawling my eyes out from his "you can't take a picture of this, it's already gone" line, or the shot of his head getting smaller as he's jogging in the rear view mirror...that smile is just too much. I'm not at all religious, but the thought of our lost loved ones coming back for us is about the most comforting thing I can possibly imagine.
Why do I torture myself over and over again by watching this so many times? It's just such an amazing ending to a great show. I just get so sad every time I watch it.
my all time fav show this ending was so awesome i recomend u watch the whole series 2 get the ending ........everything bout this show was outstanding subject matter the scenery all of it done so well hbos masterpiece........this finally blew me away allways will watch thanxz robert
@ChrisTheMediaMan Haaa, i'm exhausted. For responding (and trying to be a little bit shorter than that) what i wanted to express before is that watching the end in disorder will just take out surprises, emotions from some episodes (i'm thinking about the episode "Dog's Day" (not sure) - (kinda freaky) in the season four / and of course Nate's """"thing"""" through all seasons)
@ChrisTheMediaMan Hahaha, i started to watch it in streaming but it was too complicated etc, so i bought it too months ago on amazon! :) (great packaging...) Whatever... Well, hmm, ruin you're right, no, this is the greatest show, for me, this is the smartest, the saddest, the funniest, the most beautiful show i've ever watched. It just opens your mind, the actors are amazing, the script...
This is one of my favorite shows, and hands down the BEST series finale ever! It was like a gift to their fans the way they completed the stories of everyone.
I can't stop watching this series.. Not only was it a great story line, but it was acted out perfectly! And the ending.. OMG seriously the best ever created!!! Once it was over, I felt like I lost my own family... now that's a good show!
It's hard to make me cry, but I had tears watching this and I have never even seen the show. This is an incredible way of ending a series. I can only imagine the impact this must have had on long-time viewers. Definitely need to purchase the series on DVD.
@messyspooky It will affect and reduce the experience, no doubt. But 'ruin' is a bit drastic. Besides, I've really enjoyed countless shows while already knowing the ending. If the show is as good as people make it out to be and produces quality material during the duration of the seasons, I think I should be in for a swell ride. Already ordered the complete series from amazon. :)
Never has any show given so much resolution. We never have to ask, what happened to this character or this couple. We already know and for that I am grateful. I watched this show from the first episode to the last and cherished every minute. Few shows have touched so deep or made you care about the characters so much.
This was the best 8 minutes of film I've ever seen.Truly a remakable work of art.Done with such class, sensitivity and meaning.I've watched it continuosly for 2 hrs.and cried and I'm an army man.Especially with the haunting music nothing comes close.
I'm an emotion addict. And whenever I need my "fix" I watch something like this. My thanks to all that made this show what it is. And to the one that posted to video. Thank you for giving me such powerful emotions.
I miss this show so much. How many series did they make. I'm trying to find them all . There was nothing as true to life as this show. The end when Clair was old, and reviewing the pictures on the wall made me so sad. I can't believe I'm so emotional about a show, but this was not an ordinary show this was an incredible journey.
The Most amazing thing ive ever watched in my life was Six Feet Under its only 1 of its kind and will never be done again this show opened my eyes to so much and taught me so much about losing people and life this ending sequence is one of the most beuatiful things ive seen "Best Show In The World"
A few things I just realized: 1) Claire never has children (that are alluded to); 2) One of David and Keiths sons ends up gay too; 3) I'm wondering if Claire is a senior in the first season (I think so), then her age makes sense; 18, but if not, she is too old to be in HS unless she got left back. (By the 4th ep of season 1, it was already 2001). Does anyone know about this?
oft missed details: 4:35 billy has a puppy 4:55 brenda has new husband, looks prego? 5:52 durrell? 6:00 anthony? 6:06 mya to left of george? 6:22 "charles security", keith started his own business 6:47 anthony (or d?) & his husband/boyfriend, on other end of row is durrell (or a?) and his wife and in the middle their kid 6:48 who's younger man beside brenda? a son? a younger bf? is that willa on other side of him? maybe he's willa's bf? 7:15 david's new bf? 7:45 frederico still w his wife :)
Never has any TV show or movie affected me as much as these last 8 minutes. A beautiful and poignant end to one of television's greatest shows. Its amazing how through so much death they paid such a beautiful tribute to life.
So, Darnell became a funeral director rather than a fireman...and the adorable, sweet Anthony was gay. I loved the fact that we were able to see how their stories ended rather than leaving things open, Keith's death was sad. Some of the dvd commentaries accompanying many of the episodes are fascinating - especially Alan Ball's, he used a stunt man for Federico's death scene as he thought that Freddy Rodríguez looked like a twelve year old boy and it was impossible to make him up convincingly!
@Pollymedusa18 It's in this video for all to see (although I had a feeling that Anthony was gay when I first saw him in the sand-pit at the 'open day' for people seeking to adopt - the fact that he didn't like getting sand in his shoes was a tell-tale teaser!)
At 5.53 you see him sitting next to his Chinese-looking partner (they're holding hands) at Claire's wedding, and on the left side of David - Darnell is sitting next to his pregnant wife and little boy.
i love that brenda dies by being talked to death by her brother. so appropriate. and how perfect that claire loses her vision before she dies, it raises so many questions about her last days, a blind artist? all of them were on point though. i mourn the passing of this entire series.

i only watched the first season and decided it wasn't for me i'd heard the ending was great so i watched this and i wish i hadn't although the concept is mildly uplifting the overall message of it is depressing, a very well done scene but wow so sad
Fantastic, fantastic, epic win of a series. Legendary even. I watched this show so intensely, I felt every minute emotion these characters felt. I cried like I was watching my own family's deaths in the finale. I was brimming tears for the next two days. People at work would ask if I was okay and I could just laugh though tears as i told them why. Ridiculous maybe, but just goes to show how amazing this series was. If you haven't seen it, watch it!
New invention allows you to stay physially young forever. Just google ''Alex Chiu's Magnetic Discovery'' Then you dont have to fall for this brainwashing scam about how precious death is or life is.
Heck, I wasn't even a fan of the show and I have to (begrudgingly) admit -- I don't know how the final episode as a whole holds up, but this is probably the most powerful final scene ever made. (I'm sorry, "The Shield," I'm sorry!)
Started watching the show since it started last year on sky atlantic, one of the most gripping, funny, sometimes horrific, enthralling, sad and just pure gold, i love it! Right up there with Dexter, one of the best! The ending couldn't have been better, a real tear jerker, pure gold!

On the plus side she lived a long life (107 years). 1983 - 2085.
And this was the perfect way to end the show. Everyone has an ending and life goes on.

That smile Nate gives to his mom as she's dying kills me!
JakeNeverRises 9 months ago 2
@JakeNeverRises, TOTALLY! That is the one part, assuming I'm not already bawling my eyes out from his "you can't take a picture of this, it's already gone" line, or the shot of his head getting smaller as he's jogging in the rear view mirror...that smile is just too much. I'm not at all religious, but the thought of our lost loved ones coming back for us is about the most comforting thing I can possibly imagine.

Why do I torture myself over and over again by watching this so many times? It's just such an amazing ending to a great show. I just get so sad every time I watch it.

Sorry, my english isn't perfect, made my best. And sorry for talking shit and saying useless things.

@ChrisTheMediaMan Haaa, i'm exhausted. For responding (and trying to be a little bit shorter than that) what i wanted to express before is that watching the end in disorder will just take out surprises, emotions from some episodes (i'm thinking about the episode "Dog's Day" (not sure) - (kinda freaky) in the season four / and of course Nate's """"thing"""" through all seasons)
messyspooky 9 months ago
@ChrisTheMediaMan Hahaha, i started to watch it in streaming but it was too complicated etc, so i bought it too months ago on amazon! :) (great packaging...) Whatever... Well, hmm, ruin you're right, no, this is the greatest show, for me, this is the smartest, the saddest, the funniest, the most beautiful show i've ever watched. It just opens your mind, the actors are amazing, the script...

This is too bad. The fact that you watched this before the entire show ruines everything...
messyspooky 9 months ago

Wow One of David and Keiths kids would become gay.
Good reason why gay's shouldnt raise kids..brainwashing them at an early age.
Christopherwilder47 11 months ago
@Christopherwilder47 Well, straight people have been doing that for ages so I think it's only fair to give gay people a chance to join in.

I think it is so fitting that Brenda dies while Billy is blabbing on and on. Still talking about Claire and "emotional closure" that is classic.

Never has any TV show or movie affected me as much as these last 8 minutes. A beautiful and poignant end to one of television's greatest shows. Its amazing how through so much death they paid such a beautiful tribute to life.

It's a shame that you didn't include Claire's dream of Nate singing 'a la' christian pop-music - which was very funny and so uncharacteristic of him.
sleepypoodle 1 year ago
So, Darnell became a funeral director rather than a fireman...and the adorable, sweet Anthony was gay. I loved the fact that we were able to see how their stories ended rather than leaving things open, Keith's death was sad. Some of the dvd commentaries accompanying many of the episodes are fascinating - especially Alan Ball's, he used a stunt man for Federico's death scene as he thought that Freddy Rodríguez looked like a twelve year old boy and it was impossible to make him up convincingly!
sleepypoodle 1 year ago 3
@sleepypoodle how do you know that Anthony was gay?
Pollymedusa18 1 year ago

Heck, I wasn't even a fan of the show and I have to (begrudgingly) admit -- I don't know how the final episode as a whole holds up, but this is probably the most powerful final scene ever made. (I'm sorry, "The Shield," I'm sorry!)
