The reason for the perception of native americans sounding like the way they do originates from Fennimore Coopers Longstocking tales which made natives sound brutish and speak with broken english in the late 1700's. After Europeans and other American authors emerged and wrote stories and books about american indians in the 1800's then they took on Coopers perception of natives and placed them the same way all the up into todays literature and media reels.
