Help the weak, the underdog, get them up, only to have them, spit in you eye, when there boss, but that's me, I figured he would, & will do it again, for you reap what you sow, & I am happy here?
Johnny Cash was way ahead of his time. He sings: “I wear black for the prisoner who has long served his time but he is there because he is a victim of the time” Can you think of any crimes that the media has blown out of proportion and caused a witch-hunt over? I certainly can. America is a classic police state. Love you Cash!!!!
Q: do you find it difficult to be the voice of your generation?J.C.: i dont think i am. there is a desire among people, especially young people to know that they are heard. a collective voice will always be louder than any single voice. still, if they want me out in front, then i'm happy to do it. that kind of trust...that kind of faith is humbling...and at the same time invigorating. there is nothing more sacred than trust. that is the ultimate validation...trust.
He performed this song on national TV at the height of the Vietnam War, which makes hime even more of a badass that he already was. Nowdays we don't have anyone even close to the man he was

Johnny Cash was an anti-American, anti-corporate, anti-military, liberal socialist, calling for free handouts for the lazy poor and 'beaten down' drug addicts and prisoners. Makes me sick that so many who call themselves conservatives would listen to this liberal garbage, call him a 'great man'. Where's his songs glorifying capitalism or the corporations who allow these 'poor' people to work for them? NOWHERE. All you get is this peace and love garbage. He should have been arrested for treason
My car broke down yesterday and I had to be towed home. The gentleman was playing old Johnny Cash songs from when I was a child. Here I was wishing I had the means for a new bright shiny car. But God was speaking to me through this song. Jesus was crucified for the men (and women) in black. We should pick up our cross and follow Him!
We don't give a dam about the poor in the USA. We just idealize the wealthy and celebrity. This is ironic because Jesus said it was the poor who were the closest to got
@mftebo god is yourself. they are closer to themselves. they have nothing in the material world to distract them from being one with God/Themselves. We are god.
Great video - thanks for putting that up. Love this song.
Just a shame the bit just before the song is not included - Cash was reading autocue/lyric cards as he had just finished writing the song that morning.
I saw a documentary with videos of Johnny taken during the 50's and 60's. Now people may say. yes he was addicted to drugs. But wow what a guy he seems to have been. He seemed so humble, so caring about the wider world and also so intelligent when considering his opinions on the world. he also seemed to love his family deeply always with his wife and kids and always asking his father about times past. A very good man by what i could see.
i love this song it so sad

No one will ever take his place, but Steve Earle has picked up the baton and carries it well.
