  • this isnt a solid. it is a solid containing a gas.

according to this logic, lead is lighter than air because it could be made thin and contain a vacuum.

  • This stuff has been around for ages. It's called cotton candy!

  • does it... does it taste good?

  • Comment removed

  • does it blend?

  • think we could make flying carpets with this?

  • i kinda want to eat some now

  • made of sugars?

  • i want some!

  • 1:10 that man died soon after lol

  • @BloodSpatterGaming that man is actually the one we more commonly know as Homer simpson, before the horrible mutation

  • @BloodSpatterGaming It's made of agar, so it's like eating seaweed. From personal experience, I can say that edible seaweed is delicious.

  • Ahahahaha, is there the answer for the mystery ? I hope so. Not a believer or a debunker, only curious. Tell me what you think of the video. Is the object I photo graphed made of seagel and the size of at least a car ? Then the Japaneses are on it or the US are spying on them. Hehehehehe

  • how is it a "solid" if you can squish it and then eat it?

  • @gredangeo

    There are 4 normal states of matter: 1-Solid 2-Liquid 3-Gas 4-Plasma.

Which does it look like ?

  • @GregOrca All right then. What is a marshmallow? Is that a solid? Because that's what he made that thing look like. I'm not impressed. Except the flying part. That in itself is pretty cool. I have to see more videos of this stuff to know what is really goin' on with this material.

  • @gredangeo

Yes marshmallow is a solid. It is not a liquid.

    These are scientific definition terms.

Just because it's not rigid doesn't mean it's not a solid.

Rubber is a solid, even though it's squishy

  • @gredangeo HAHA! Yeah, man, get your education on youtube. If you really want to know what is "goin' on with this material" you should start with some real investigation. Youtube is as reliable a source of factual information as Disney's "Pocahontas."

  • @gredangeo Right! Bread is not a solid at all.

  • Woah make "light" candy with this!

  • soooo they invented packing peanuts?

  • will it blend?

  • lol imagine an air plane made of that stuff. you would be able to eat it if u crash!!

  • @SashaK1999

may not crash in the first place. :)

the material itself may keep you afloat and absorb impacts.

unless you start eating it in midair ... :o

  • i wonder if it tastes like marshmellow...

  • push 8 and 9 over again lol

  • push 9 over and over again

  • You know what would be funny?? If after he ate it...he died.

  • Anyone else really curious how a .50 gun firing in 10 seconds figures into this video?

  • @jwigum I really want to agree with you but have no idea what you are talking about.

  • made of sugar

  • anyone else hear mortal kombat music??

  • They should show a guy lifting a huge block of it that looks like it should weigh hundreds of pounds.

  • imagine if you had this instead of fat, you could eat as much as you want and get lighter, fuck dieting

  • @LilRoloEre and yet you would still look fat xD

  • @Lizardman0354 you could just mold it into muscle haha

  • @LilRoloEre But since it changes shape so easily, you'd have to rearrange your "muscles" everytime you woke up or did anything that involved alot of movement.

  • @Lizardman0354 Nothing comes easy, its the price you would have to pay

  • @LilRoloEre Seems quite inexpensive, since its made from a seaweed derivative filled with helium or hydrogen.

Plus for them to consider it being used as insulation material it should not be too expensive.

  • if its just air made thin by nitrogen, im pretty sure its not toxic -.-'

  • Mc Donalds has been using this in burgers for years

  • It's edible... In 10 years time this man will be dead from bowel cancer.

  • @junmiguel2007 No, not angry, I just am very passionate about what I believe...

  • Hold 9.

  • @junmiguel2007 Agar? You mean plant sugars? A desert ingredient would be something along the lines of say, SAND. And unless you have synthesized this synthetic compound yourself I believe you have no say in what it is made of. You can believe whatever mister scientist man tells you but until I create some or watch every step of the process, it is a carcinogen to me.

  • I bet that reporter has cancer now.

  • Pbat <3

  • @5superbreasons lol, ur such a champ!

  • @5superbreasons you saw Pbats aether video with the aerogel and searched it on youtube also?i wish i had aerogel FER DAYES XD

  • @5superbreasons whos pbat?

  • @5superbreasons what is Pbat?

  • what's for dinner?

    seagel

    yummy

  • but, will it blend?

  • yes but does it have the strength of steel.....

  • someone is going to have floating shit....

  • I wonder if you can get lighter by eating lots of aerogels.

  • Bob Lazar might be interested in this.

  • @88mestari88 i upvoted it, for a scientific video the comment was just great

  • If this stuff is lighter than air, why have these assholes had to thin the air? All I'm after is a motherfucking video of silica nanofoam floating in normal air.

  • @Vorpulus But it would not float. It would be like attached to the ceiling, like helium balloons do.

  • @RobbyLee89 Then can't they put something on it to weigh it down, and just make it float in normal air?

  • Wasn't the star Wars programme something to do with destroying the USSR with lazers? or at least that's what I was lead to believe.

  • @rosydonut Pudding. They were trying to destroy it with pudding........lots and lots of pudding.

  • @rosydonut It was a missile defense program. If the US was the target of a missile attack, they would use lasers to blow up the missiles before they hit their intended target(s). Some degree of research was done in an attempt to weaponize lasers but no significant progress was made - except for the creation of SEAgel :)

  • It is obviously an extremely week solid, unfortunately.

  • not much strength though.

and of course it doesn't explain the ufo phenomenon. at the very best man's attempts to mimic ufos.

  • @DanFrederiksen Not... really. It's very likely that the Roswell incident was a Soviet aircraft crash, which means THAT'S our best attempt at "mimicking" a ufo.

  • ***NOT A UFO***

You can relax. It's not a UFO.

  • I still wait that someone invents a vacuum airship (filled with vacuum not gas). Pumping air in and out of the vacuum chamber (that may a plastic bag filled with ultra-lightweight aerogel or open cell foam the like) would control buoyancy, so e.g. robot drones may float without much energy and without a source for helium. Only air leaking into the vacuum needs energy to be pumped out to keep floating.

  • Its like a super light version of styrofoam, can crush, can float, can eat..!?

  • willy wonka already invented this, and it tastes a lot better

  • If u look closely...at 1:10 the guy is calling the paramedics cause he is fataly choking on that seagel he just eat!

  • If u look closely...at 1:10 the guy is calling the paramedics cause he is fataly choking on that seagel he just eat!

  • But will it blend? That is the question.

  • can I make it make my car fly?

  • I love it

  • @xphobus you're not that bright are you?

  • ITS EDIBLE!?!?!? what the fuck. It's like a scientist shows the new iPhone 5 with unlimited capabilities, and concludes his story with: It's edible

  • @Scraleontis fvck off . apple here WTF ?

  • @Scraleontis lol

  • Will that guy able to fly?

  • 1:06 FAIL

  • "It's edible" hahaha holy shit

  • 1:07 FAILLL

  • I wanna eat some.

  • what does it taste like??!!

  • @bmam2020 Chicken ?

  • Comment removed

  • If two cars made of this got in an accident it would be like crashing into a cloud.

  • Comment removed

  • they should make condoms out of this stuff

  • @chazdaspazman its very porous and the semen would go strait through

  • @gurusson lol i thought it was wrapped in plastic to keep the gas from escaping. it was a joke in reference to guys with ed.

  • mmmm solid state zeppelins.....

  • Cool stuff... Also it is incredibly telling that you had to put the "Not a UFO" disclaimer in the title, there seem to be some awfully credulous people on YouTube.

  • so if you made a small light aircraft out of this would the friction of it moving through the air create enough static to keep it in the air?

  • @jamiehasnomercy I would imagine that the air resistance experienced as the aircraft moved at any considerable speed would likely tear the entire structure to pieces though :(

  • Did he really just eat it? HUH!?!

  • He just got herpes

  • doesn't seem as strong as aerogel seeing as how he crushed it and ate it..

  • @robinheil It's lighter than aerogel though. They're both pretty useful in their own sense.

  • @robinheil aerogel is actually really brittle

  • I miss this show.

  • omg, where can i buy this?

  • @Sebastian1011 thinkgeek . com its expensive as shit though

  • It's edible, but it expands in your colon.

  • wtf, this is like 20 years old, why aint we seein things made out of this?

  • @4shiizi What precisely do you want to make out of it?

  • @kuzb i dunno, im not the scientist here

  • Who was that host? I remember him and that show, what was it?

  • cool so it's like that cornstarch packing peanuts! yummy!

  • Why did you cut out the .50 caliber gun?

  • def ufo lol

  • So... UFO's are edible? MMMmmm.... ufooo...

  • I WANT IT .....it would be cool to make a bed out of it

  • @xtxremix69 yeah, a bed that flattens completely as soon as you try laying in it...

  • this is how they will (and are) make "The UFO" Emergence onto the society... so they can control people.

P.S. There is no UFO its all Governments' COVER UP.

  • oh come on! it ends with ".50 caliber gun firing in 10 seconds" :O i missed a .50 cal doing something :(

  • Aerogel made me a prostitute!

  • Eadible??????

  • how's it actually floating in air?

  • 5 seconds later, the reporter's eyes started to bug out, his skin turned green, and his cloths tore away at the seams.

  • @PaulGrantDesigns And he began speaking in third person.

  • haha lighter than air solid eating fail

  • Amazing stuff!

  • baloons can fly too. OMG MAGIC

  • @fsjal1 Can a balloon support up to 2000 times it's own weight?

  • @Tudders1993 A properly designed balloon (with net around, possibly multiple cells) can likely support 2000 times its weight (i.e. a 1g balloon may withstands 2kg, or an inflated thin plastic bag of 25g may hold body weight of 50kg when properly distributed) without popping.

But this does NOT mean that it can lift 2000 times its weight into the sky! Any bouyant object lifts only the difference between its weight and its own volume of air.

  • @fsjal1 That's because balloons are filled with helium, and helium is lighter than air, you dumb piece of shit.

  • I will eat enough to start floating.

  • This stuff is freaking AWESOME!!

  • that's unreal! :D

  • If it is lighter than air, then why does he need to put it into a tank which obviously contains a gas that is heavier than air? You can clearly see it floating on top of some heavy gas.

  • @TirianB Well spotted, I was wondering that as well. If it's lighter than air, it'd be floating up towards the ceiling, but it's clearly bobbing around on something (for the doubters, have a look for sulphur hexafluoride videos to see a similar effect). I think they mean, it's incredibly close to the weight of air. All thumbs up TirianB for being correct and dodging the bullshit, FOR GREAT JUSTICE!

  • why aren't we doing amazing stuff with this!?!

  • I wouldn't want to sit in an aircraft made of this stuff. I probably couldn't though, as my weight would destroy any structure it had been formed in to.

  • Wow, some Americans will actually believe this shit, you should be careful what you air, you are almost setting up your countryfolk for Epic Fail.

  • @Cloress1

except that it has "the discovery channel" logo in the corner.

setting up our 'country folk' for "Epic Fail"? Really?

  • lol a bit of messup when eating that seagel

  • So this is 12 years old now? Where are the McGel hamburgers then?

  • If you only eat that stuff will your poo float?

  • @TheMindFarter the mind farter had a brainfart! i wonder that to...

  • @TheMindFarter It's made of two gases; Your poo will be pure bile.

  • @K1kk0M4n At last I can now sleep at night knowing this. Thank you.

  • Lol when he swallows it its gonna go strait up to you know where!

  • How much seagel would it take to crush you to your death?

  • @meatisdeliciouse A block the size of a mountain range.

  • @frenchfrys12 Well actually, let's assume 400 kg of this aerogel would crush you. Since this is lighter than air, let's just assume its density is 1 mg/cm^3. That's 4 x 10^8 cubic centimeters, or 400 cubic meters. That's practically a house full of the stuff!

  • I see they put a light wrap on the gel assuming that if the gases would penetrate and will make the gel to sink

  • it's pretty fragile, as he just crushed it into a ball and ate it. I couldn't see it being used for much seeing as it's a marshmellow-paper hybrid.

  • if you ate some does that mean to take a shit you would have to point your a-hole to the sky??

  • It comes in colours! OMG

  • @har12430 and u can eat it!!!!

  • why dont they use this for pool toys and floatation devices? hell, i wish i had 20 square feet of it

  • Where can i get some i want some but i wouldn't want to eat because it is so cool

  • Hey! Why is my fillet mignon floating!?

  • Next step!! I loved this show! They made a huge inkjet printer out of pvc once. good times

  • Will eating enough of it make me float? Maybe Willy Wonka was onto something.

  • i want to break it

  • air******

  • I bet you could get a untestable high if you ate enough of that nitrogen are gel

  • omg i wana eat some

  • lol eat fail

  • mmmm im hungry
