There is now a well-engineered paved road from Loreto to within a few miles of San Javier. The remaining dirt road is graded and easily drivable in a passenger car.
A guidebook told us that the Comondus were "quaint colonial villages" and that the road was one of the best drives in Baja. I wanted to get my hands around that author's neck. We did see some amazing plant life and will be posting more pics at BajaBus.org (work in progress.)

we've been on that road and yeah, it sucked ! but hey, a day in Baja is better than a day at work !
