I'd just like to say I wasn't "talking out of my ass" I've got a copy of Romeo and Juliet in front of me and it does say "love" and not "hate".

Plus, you're thinking about the wrong kind of villain this context of "villain" means peasant, which is a great insult to Romeo because he is of noble birth.

I assume you're talking about Tybalt and Romeo's first confrontation? If so, you're correct, because we went over the similarities and the differences between the movie and the actual play in school, and this was one of the biggest errors.

In Act 3 Scene 1, Tybalt says "Romeo, the hate I bear thee can afford

No better term than this,--thou art a villain."

"the hate I bear thee" means "the hate/grudge i have for you".

It makes absolutely no sense for Tybalt to say "the love i bear thee".

Oh and BTW it might well say on that website you mentioned that Tybalt says "hate" and that might well be how the original play was, but the book of I've got says love. It's the oxford university press version.

And it's also according to my book that "vallain" has an alternate meaning of "peasant" and that that offends Romeo greatly because of his noble birth, but that might just be my copy of the book that's wrong.
