  • vw is full of reliability issues i test drove the 2011 the clutch is horrible

  • @hondacivicsi09 Funny, just about every reviewer would like to disagree with you. I guess that's what happens when you drive a Honda for too long...

  • @PantstofryPWNZ @hondacivivsi09 Well I don't know what was wrong with the one you drove, but I just drove a 2011 4 days ago... the clutch was fantastic.

  • @nparadisecity yes premium only

  • Does anybody know if this GTi is premium fuel only?

  • @nparadisecity According to the website "premium fuel preferred for maximum performance".

  • I got 33.7MPG combined couple days ago! This engine is amazing combo of performance and efficiency. I will admit tho, it is hard to not get on it when you drive this car.

  • @darXirc Must. Resist. Temptation ... D'oh! =)

  • the 2011 GTI has HID's on it. awesome.

  • @zi2iz it's classified as the GTI, not a trim level of the golf. At least that's what I'm tld at the dealer

  • A VW GTI DOES NOT EXIST. Only vw polo or golf in a gti version. GTI is not a car but a version of a car.

  • @zi2iz It depends on what country you live in. In European countries you're right about what it's called, but hear in the U.S. where this review took place it is classified as a GTI not a GTI version of a Golf or Polo.

  • When you drove on the highway, what speed did you drive in order to get 36.1 mpg?

  • @timcp1 Our full reviews provide detail on the highway testing conditions. We test with cruise control on and off. Cruise target speed is 68 MPH. Cruise off target speed is 60-72 MPH.

  • WOW!! It has 180 on the dash. VW RULE!!!!!!!

  • omg your voice is insane

  • lol at u tappin the dsg as fast as u could hahahah

  • I think mazda it the only auto maker to ger the gating correct it is back for upshifting front for down shifting

  • @KoolCordell BMW does it as well...

  • I just hope vw does not ruin the gti and golf with a remodel like they ruined the new jetta with crappy materials and an interior not up to par with vw

  • @TCB1468

I saw a 2011 that looked pretty nice. I think it's safe for now. It is efficient too. Everyone says 32mpg but I swear the sticker on it said 34 highway :)

  • I really want to like this car, it's just that everyone I know that has had one have had nothing but problems, even had a friend purchase a 2008 GTI and had to return to dealer as a lemon. All my workmates say they have nothing but problems with theres, all electronic, check engine lights, various bulbs burning out constantly. I'm trying to convince myself to get a lease on one and give VW a chance.

  • hey guys I know this video is about a volkswagen but I have a little question. I bought a ford focus 2010 and I want a lcd media system on it, I noticed that America doesnt have it but european versions of the Focus have navigation/dvd. Do you guys know where I could get it installed in North America

  • I've been curious about the mpg manual vs. DSG on the 2010 model. Used to be, a manual trumped an auto for fuel economy. Personally, I think it has more to do with your driving habits. My 1985 GTI w/230+k on the odo is getting 29-30 around town and 36-37 hwy.

I will be getting a mk6 soon with a manual and I bet I can get similar to the DSG but maybe not as good as my 1985 GTI. The mk6 is truly a badass class act.!

  • toe thumbs

  • when you achieved the 29 mpg combined rating, did you drive carefully using a light foot? or did occasionally abuse it?

  • @mrhappyguy072 I wouldn't say ABUSE, but yeah, we got on it from time to time. :) Our fuel efficient driving techniques do not = blue-haired granny driving.

  • @mrhappyguy072 well it is a 4 cylinder anyway

  • I love the Mk5 and Mk6 GTIs. The Mk6's (2010) interior is so nice, a lot of improvements over the Mk5's interior, even though I still love mine (2007 mk5).

  • I BEAT UR COMBINED WITH MY GTI THIS MORNING!!! 29.8

and I have the 18 inch wheels

  • @SRQshark - Great work ... congrats!

  • @mpgomatic

couple days ago i tried getting more milage and actually hit 32.0 mpg combined.

  • Nice car but it's overpriced in Canada.

  • @chadwick1002 is it, which sucks b/c its a really nice car too.

  • The gti is the more refined choice and best overall package and offers the great dual clutch tranny. The cobalt SS in reality is the next best choice, it has good crash tests, good gas mileage , good options and will dust either the speed3 or gti on a track. The cobalt SS beat the evo MR, wrx sti and Lexus ISF in Car and Drivers 3rd lightning lap test. I am choosing the gti because it ha a nicer interior and dsg tranny so I can practice for my GTR some more

  • @shahulhusman bullshit

  • the corporate refined globally dominating hot hatch

  • those side bolsters are going to wear very quickly!!

  • The GTI is the best first car ever!! (Better then the Mazda Speed)

  • Why is the sound so low?

  • that is a nice car!

  • I am having the devil's job deciding whether I should get the new GTI, The Honda Civic Si, Or the Chevy Cobalt SS. Any suggestions?

  • @CoolLarkin Gti

  • @CoolLarkin the cobalt ss would be a bad choice for sure, it has the worst interior in the world and it looks cheap, plus if u want a chevy then wait for the cruze ss that replaces the crappy cobalt ss, because the cobalt ends in 2010. the civic si is ok but i think its too small and japanese-ish, i dont know about u. i recommend u get the new gti or look at the mazdaspeed 3

  • @vipermoon64 wow i forgot about the mazda 3 speed! Looks very nice. Time to take a visit to edmunds, vehix, and the mazda dealer for a test drive! thanks!

  • @vipermoon64

The Civic si has a great chassis and is a great all around package. Very dependable and all but you are completely right about space. The head room in that thing is terrible. I swear there is more in the rear seat of a 2 door GTI than the front seat of the Civic. I have a Civic right now but the new one is totally off the table. I am not even that tall but I won't buy a car where my head is pressing sideways against the moon roof. I am thinking GTI or v6 Mustang.

  • @CoolLarkin .....and which car did you choose?

  • @dschonsie gti and i'm lovin it

  • did you not already test the new gti?

  • @LGSolutions The GTI 0-60 was posted a while back, but it took some time to get the review video done. You might be thinking of the TDI?

  • Germans make the best interiors hands down. I love my 09 C class, it feels like a tank. Can't say the same for the 09 CTS i test drove. I really wana see Dan review some domestics, lets see a 2011 fiesta.

  • @flatblackstrat - The quality of the materials used by the German automakers literally has to be felt to be fully appreciated.

I'm looking forward to testing the Fiesta ... it'll shake up the segment, no doubt.

  • @mpgomatic Does the VW use that nice thick leather? Some people say they don't like German car seats but they use such thick high quality leather, it's like getting a nice fat steak in your car I love it. My dodge nitro already started getting cracks in the leather after a year, because they use the equivalent of a seat cover instead of actually stitching quality leather. You already know this though you drove the liberty(same car really).

  • @flatblackstrat - It's quality stuff, but I'm not sure about the thickness. The German steering wheels tend to be exceptional ... at least in what I've driven lately ... it's the heft and touch of the leather that makes all the difference.

  • I like the style. How's the interior? Is it cramped at all? =)

You know me, I'm always going to ask that question. =)

The quality is ok with these? I know VW had some problems with the Passat.

  • @Forgoten214 - The GTI's interior is top shelf. Lots of headroom for a compact car ... take a look at the back seat shot. The seats are awesome ... if they fit your proportions. The bolsters are massive.

Take one out for a test drive and try it on for size. If it fits, you'll have a grin from ear to ear ... it's a blast to drive.

  • @mpgomatic

Ah yes, I see what you mean. Do you have to sign up for anything to test drive them? Or will they just let you test one without any strings attached? I don't want to feel committed to buying something I don't like.

  • @Forgoten214 - Committed? Nah! :) The car dealerships often ask to see your driver's license and will sometimes make a xerox copy for their records.

  • @mpgomatic

Yea, I have alot of cars on my list that I'm interested in. I just want to be able to sit in them and be able to test them without any pressure or anything.

I've heard VWs quality was abit on the lacking side as compared to the BMW or Mercedes. But then again those vehicles are fairly more pricey.

  • @Forgoten214 - Dress nice, be polite, look 'em square in the eye, and let them know you're still in the research process. The good one's will leave you alone. =)

  • @Forgoten214

I agree with MPG. I test drove one with just a license scan and the lady even knew I don't have a job but will get one soon and need a new car. They were so cool about it. No pressure or conditions and I will likely go buy a car there as soon as I am able. It was a sharp contrast from Nissan and a few other dealers who basically said go away until you are ready to buy. I have never gotten that crap at any VW dealer and it will be loss of the other companies when I do buy.

  • @mpgomatic

So what was that lever you was pumping up and down? It looked like it raised the seat up and down? That seemed pretty cool.

  • @Forgoten214 - Yep ... it's the height adjustment lever.
