Where was the Armenian's in 1071 while Great Turks Entering Europe? it seems we fucked all of your great christian ass. you only make yourself satisfy with some kind of stupid movie.
@HSerhatGURBUZ Armenia was conquered by the Byzantine empire and military disassembled by Monomachos, which is considered by historians as the fatal error of the Byzantine Empire. When Seljuks attacked Armenians where the first and the last to defend in Manzikert Armenia. About who fucked you should ask your grandmother, if you don't have slender eyes you are not a Turk but Turks raped your ancestors so you forget your identity and think you are one of them hahaha. How pathetic maggot!
@PeopleOfAr maybe Turks raped my ancestor i dont know that but you know well Turk's Raped and killed your fathers as well for their betrayal. why europe didnt save you?? where was your borthers? why you still dream great armenia you never have? maybe my bloodline wasnt Turk but today i am. and i sure i wasnt Armenian too. wellcome to Anatolia lots of races mixed here and lots of ppl are muslim in here were too in Manzikert you didnt save your ass and byzantine ass and w fecked al of you remmber
@HSerhatGURBUZ you contradict yourself so many times that it is too funny to read. You consider yourself turk but then you also admit that you are originally Anatolian. This means exactly what I said your ancestors were raped and your true identity erased. I quote Sartre: "I hate victims who respect their executioners". Go be Muslim go be happy Turk go praise those who murdered and converted your ancestors. If you are Anatolian then you are Byzantine so you laugh at yourself fool!
@PeopleOfAr i can see your memory about your ancestor is still alive in your mind. how you know my ancestor raped or killed as yours? Maybe they accepted be muslim by their selfdetermination. but you think everyone as same as yours fathers :) i dont know how we turned be Muslim and be Turk but i sure you dont know Anatollian History Byzantine wasnt first in Anatolia and Armenians too They came from west. so they werent Anatolian indigenous people. search your history above your raped ancestor :)
@HSerhatGURBUZ You believe ignorant nonsense. By your definition no is indigenous because everyone came from Africa. Armenians originated on Armenian Highlands (go search for what this geographical term means). Nowhere in the world Armenians existed before we emerged on our historic land. Show me one record of Armenia outside of Armenian Highlands (east Anatolia), I know you can't. Stop repeating bullshit that you have convinced yourself with you are only making a fool of yourself.
@HSerhatGURBUZ We Armenians are among few who retained our identity we never assimilated we never became Turks and we always practiced our own culture. This is our great victory. Unlike your ancestors we know who we are. What Europe did or did not is not important for me. I don’t discriminate on religion, unlike you obviously. Christian countries are among the most tolerant towards religions including Islam, so have some respect or go to Mecca.
@PeopleOfAr Today we can see you cant control yourself about save your culture and we saw it in 1914-1918. you deceived and colonized by European ppl for this you relocation and killed by us. We saw how tolerant european country in crusades,The conquest of america. The exploitation of Asian and African e.t.c. for europeans tolerant american indians are minority in their land right? for this spanish killed jews and muslim. we saw how tolearnt EU when they are hungry rats read and learn some histry
@HSerhatGURBUZ and yes we did save our culture and our identity. We know until today who we are we do not hold foreign identity as our own, we do not hold foreign language as our own, we do not hold foreign alphabet as our own. We posses all of our culture despite of numerous imperialists who emerged and got extinct just like it will be with every other imperialist country who again tries to raise it's paws against my people. So go wank off with your made up fairy tales of voluntary conversion.
@HSerhatGURBUZ waaw, 'Great Turks'?? if you guys and your country are so great, then please stop immigrating to Belgium and stay where you are, WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE, please tell that to your countrymen before they arrive here with their families of 20 mohammeds
@foxedevoske if you ask them they will say usually they are Kurd's not Turk and with great Turk i meaned our fathers and today. wasnt there? look your europe history our knives was in your throat and you were like rats and Armenian was donkey. for today turk's are terrible as much as you. btw i am first muslim and second i am Turk. and if Europe dont colonize world and steal their stuff nobody wanted go to europen for work.you steal you are rich time to share with other rats right? :D
@sloba111 Thank you my friend, also best wishes to your country and your great people! About the movie, apparently the movie is not even shot yet. And this is not a trailer of the movie, but a trailer made for the investors. To attract people who are willing to invest in this project. So only this part and some other small parts are created for this purpose only. You can see a bit on the official website EastOfByzantium.
@sloba111 So the movie is still yet to be shot. But I hear big Hollywood directors are taking an interest in this project. On another note a famous documentary maker is going to make a Documentary on this historic event and is collaborating with the people who are working on this project to deliver film material. So there is also going to be a documentary East of Byzantium. But about the main movie they are making much progress talking to various parties. So we'll just have to wait and see.
This guy at :21 will ruin the movie. He is NOT a good acot maybe a mediocre comedian slash joker but NOT goos actor, he will put a bad stain on the film CHANGE him.
ALEXANDER THE GREAT 334 B.C > FUCKED every ottoman and mongolic race up to indus valley and central asia... Alexander fucked your mongolic roots and every ottoman woman in the ass 334 B.C - 1821 - 1823 - 1912 - 1922 after the fuck in ankara where many women tasted the greek dick... your kebab ala turku founded turkey in 1923.. what is turkey? A little piece of shit left over
Who ended the Ottoman Empire? The objective of the Ottoman empire was to infitrate Europe. Greece fucked it
@JewsAreLikeSnakes that’s not true, Persians were not present at Pentecost and there are no older churches in Iran. The oldest known ruined church is in Syria the oldest known surviving Church and Cathedral is in Armenia, Echmeadzin build in 301. Armenia is the first nation to adopt Christianity as it’s state religion that is what the film refers to. During the writings of the bible there were no nations Christian.
@JewsAreLikeSnakes To your other question the answer is : “The same way Romans/Greeks lost the Byzantine Empire, and the same way Crusaders lost Israel.” To hordes of Muslims.
@JewsAreLikeSnakes the oldest church in Iran is Church of St. Mary, built in 600+ AD. By this time Armenia was already for 300 years an entirely Christian nation. You should brush up your history on the region.
This movie is not about the fall of armenia, but an earlier period in history when the emperor of persia demanded armenians change faith from christianity to paganism, and how we fought back... To answer your question, After the arrival of the Turkik tribes in the region, Armenians soon became a minority and lost independence for over 600 years..., The region however was not abandoned until the Ottoman committed Genocide and murdered 1.5 million Armenians.
@raffiello : But in my history book in college it shows pictures of Christian churches in Iran older than Armenian churches ... why did Armenians have problems?
@JewsAreLikeSnakes what problems are you talking about? Every nation has problems. And what history books are you reading anyway? lol Just search encyclopedias for oldest churches in the world you will see there are no older churches in Iran. Like I said before the oldest church in Iran is from 600+ A.D. over 300 years after all Armenians became Christians. Just type in Google you will find. Are you from Iran or something? You guys learn some weird propaganda or what?
The oldest Christian "church" or official place of worship ever built to represent an entire nation's beliefs is the "Ech Miadzine" church, which was built starting 301AD, and took 16 years to build. It was originally a totally different structure than the one that still stands today. However, by the time it was complete and the orthodox priests had begun using it for religious ceremonies, Armenia as a nation wasn't completely independent, and left under Persian rule.
The persians however allowed Armenian practice for christianity for a few decades, until the new emperor of Persia " Hazgert II" became king. He banned all practices of any religion apart from his pagan beliefs and forced Armenian Nation to change beliefs too. Armenians had the choice of fighting with Byzantines who had just established a christian Empire but risk losing their cultural identity or putting up a fight alone against pagan persians, and that is what this movie is
@TheLoyalOfficer The only time women used to fight is when they were as good at fighting as the men they were with and that means the men they are fighting with are CRAP!
@jlop985 Armenian women fought in every war. Many of which were documented as such in ancient manuscripts by foreign and native historians (Movzes of Khorene). Because the wars Armenia faced were always of defensive nature. We even have worrier goddesses from pre-Christian times (Nane Godess of war the daughter of Aramazd creator of heaven and earth), More recently Armenian women participated in the defense of Sartarabad and Karabakh. And the famous statue Mother Armenia bears a sword and shield
@jlop985 thank you for the kind words, the struggling is not over yet but we'll manage I’m sure. I hope one day people will come to respect different nations instead of trying to dominate subdue and assimilate them. Only simpleminded people don’t understand that different doesn’t mean bad. Belonging to a separate nation is not a matter of contest it’s a matter of freedom, being able to practice own way of life without prosecution. Thanks again and all the best wishes to you and your people.
@jlop985 The woman's ancient battlefield was CHILDBIRTH. It was a war that claimed about 5-10% casualties, even among the upper classes.
I would find women fighting in ANY numbers in the ancient world highly unlikely. That may have been cooked up by the Romans to say how "barbaric" the Parthians were. Remember, back then "history" often took a distant back seat to propaganda and polemic.
@TheLoyalOfficer Actually you seem to have a poor knowledge on the matter. Like I commented to jlop985 Armenian women are documented to have participate in this (Avarayr) battle and many others, because the wars Armenia faced where always of the defensive nature. When you defend you can’t be too picky. The one you see in the trailer is known as the Battle of Avarayr and was recorded by many ancient historians like Lazar Parpartsi and Yeghishe. We even have a pre-Christian goddess of war (Nane).
@TheLoyalOfficer Quote: "In May 451 the famous battle of Avarayr took place. Under the leadership of the commander-in-chief, Vardan Mamikonian, 66 thousand Armenian soldiers, women, monks and old people resisted the Persian army, which had 200 thousand soldiers."
Another historian accounts the preperations: "Men and even women, armed and helmeted, sword in belt and shield in hand, were ready to accept the challenge, to fight and die for freedom of faith and conscience."
@PeopleOfAr Right they RESISTED. That does NOT mean that they fought in the battle lines. They may have been spies, or simply burned down grain stores, etc. They may have also been camp followers/support personnel in the army.
But in the hand-to-hand line? Women would be totally massacred - leading to the aforementioned extinction of the nation. The ancients knew this. Don't be fooled by this Hollywood nonsense.
@TheLoyalOfficer Sure Hollywood is fictional and off course it was not a tradition that's why it was so memorable when it DID happen and was recorded as such by historians. To deny this is just plain ignorant. Moreover the Amazons that were known to the Greeks as all-female warriors were placed around the Caucasus by the Greek themselves. So obviously such things did happen but surely it must have been exceptional. But believe it or not the battle of Aravayr was known to include female worriers.
@PeopleOfAr The Amazons were a legend. I suppose you are going to say that they were running around the Ukraine and S. Russia until Heracles killed them all as part of his trials?
Women had enough to deal with without being soldiers. After all, as I said, 5-10% of them died in childbirth - which was their battlefield.
But hey, if you want to believe this, then be my guest. However, as a historian I have to say: "highly unlikely."
@TheLoyalOfficer o please not another youtube "historian". lol I’ve encountered many can’t bare their stubbornness. Just because you read something in a book doesn’t mean you know the history of the entire world. I bet you haven’t even heard of the battle of Avarayr. If you're an historian then what don't you understand? I am telling you there are documented cases of females participating in this battle.
@TheLoyalOfficer In terms of the archaeological record, in 1997 the earliest known women warrior burial mounds were excavated in southern Russia. They were buried with their swords, daggers, arrowheads and saddles. David Anthony states, "About 20% of Scythian-Sarmatian "warrior graves" on the lower Don and lower Volga contained females dressed for battle in the same manner as men, a phenomenon that probably inspired the Greek tales about the Amazons."
@TheLoyalOfficer In 2004, the 2,000 year old remains of an Iranian female warrior were found in the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz. I myself am not an historian but I have an academic background in social science I know what constitutes valid evidence and what not. Most if not all historic events are described in probabilities not certainties. And again I am not claiming women to have fought in battles like man have.
@TheLoyalOfficer All I say and that is backed by historic and archeological accounts is that women sometimes did stand alongside men, children, old men clergymen etc… in defense of a country. This has been persistent in Armenian history as our wars have always been of defensive nature. Many have written about it and even in modern wars Armenian women are known for their participation. Read the battle of Sartarabad and Karabakgh.
@TheLoyalOfficer We even worshiped a female deity of war and the famous statue Mother Armenia is a female warrior standing in armor holding a sword with a shield at her feet. Amazons are exaggerated sure but they are not baseless most ancient history could be regarded a myth for that matter. Hollywood series/movies are entertainment and highly romanticized, sure. Doesn’t mean they are bad though. What ells you want a documentary? Lol then watch history channel.
@PeopleOfAr Sure, just like Athena - the goddess of wisdom and war in Greece, blablabla. The Amazons are almost totally baseless. The problem is that we see these kung-fu chicks - 110 lb. girls beating up 250 lbs men and it's just ridiculous.
Thi is my video about anothe historical fact of Armenian Queen leading battle for 14 months against another Persian King... Heroic Warrior Queen Parandzem....
watch?v=ovPCU9Wuv0A
Our history is full of womens' fight...unfortunatelly...
YES, there were female LEADERS. But, in ancient times, women in the battle line would lead to the annhiliation of the tribe or nation in question. Women in a battle line would have been MASSACRED.
The battlefield of women until about 1900 AD was CHILDBIRTH. And it was a tough fight, with mothers dying anywhere from 5-10% of the time, even among the wealthy.
So, please stop the ahistorical, PC, quasi-romantic nonsense.
@TheLoyalOfficer I don't know where you get the impression that this movie is about massive female battles. Cause it's not, it is about a defensive war with some female volunteers in defense of a country, religion and a struggle for existence. Just like it was recorded at the time. Nothing more nothing less. You really sound a bit sexist if you ask me. Maybe not in most organized armies nevertheless enough women fought in battles a lot is documented. anyways enough of this discussion.
@PeopleOfAr It's just that when I see these hot, 95 pound chicks waving around swords and taking on 200 pound jacked and armored dudes, I want to puke. It's PC crap of the highest order, and Hollywood has been getting away with it for far too long. Believe me, this is not the first movie to do this. Check out "Centurion" and "King Arthur" from the past few years ago and they have warrior chicks too. I called them out too.
What are these documents that you keep referring to?
Did u watch my video? Queen Parandzem FOUGHT along with men warriors after her husband was imprisoned. U have to give it to us, sometimes women as well are able to fight like men. And since Armenia was invaded many times the only way to survive for us was to do our utmost best, that's why in our recorded history we have many examples of women fighting alongside with men, but as PeopleofAR mentioned, it doesn't mean that women all the time fought, but such example exist.
@BeautySavesWorld I would like to see the evidence where all of this estrogen-powered combat stature comes from. Can you name me some original documents for me to look up?
And not just ONE woman warrior. I guess there could have been one or two. But you are claiming MANY women soldiers. I would like to see where that information comes from.
Are asking me to show u historical evidence of Joan of Arc? ;-))
Saying "many" I didn't mean womens battalions, but throughout the history there were many examples.
Fro the primary sources I will need time to look or in internet books, but a quick search for Queen Parandzem will show u some links...One of them I will post on my channel now...
Histroy kkows many examples and one of the most famous one is Joan of Arc...She also, like Queen Parandzem, led the battle and fought like any other man on the battlefiled...Don't take the heroic acts of these people away only because they are petite, beautiful "girls" ;-))) Women can surprise ;-))
It is true that the Armenians bravery in this battle caused the Persians to give them freedom of religion, but it did not brought the empire on its knees. in reality it was the other way around. Persians who did not wanted the Armenians to rebel which could be a headache for them (since Sassanid were in fight with eastern Romans constantly), let them to keep their religion as long as they not follow the Rome or Byzantine council.
As usual there are exaggerations in this movie, too. in storyline of this movie website it says a battle that shaped the western world and brought a mighty empire to its knees! who are we kidding guys! The battle was a bloody defeat, and it does not effect the western world, but Armenian religious freedom. The Sassanids won the battle, but chose to let Armenian have their religion as long as they do not betray the Sassanids.
The Armenians, have resisted stoutly the pressure of Islam to force them away from their ancient Christian faith. This people really represents the last outpost of Europe toward the Mohammedan East and constitutes the best remaining medium through which Western ideals and culture can be introduced into Asia.
@BeautySavesWorld Do you have any Idea when this battle occurred? Sassanid Persians were always Zoroastrians not Muslim. Persians converted to Islam after down fall of Sassanid Persian by Arabs in 7 century. Some centuries after did war. Persians didn't accept Islam peacefully they were force to accept. Anyhow, all this history background make your statement a jock, since it is in a wrong place. Consequently, My statement is correct, do a little bit research for this war then you will learn.
It doesn't matter what Armenia resisted stoutly: Islam or Zoroastranism, the point is defending Christianity not only for ourselves but for the Western World as well...As u see Armenia is considered the last outpost of Europe and the best medium through Western world to Asia...so ur statement about this battle mattering only to Armenians is not correct...
@BeautySavesWorld Constantinople was the last outpost for Europe or western world. Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan are in Eastern hemisphere. Armenia is also in Asia not Europe. I have to say I have a lot of respect for Armenian culture and people as whole, since I have lived with them. Armenia and Persia have been close allies for many times throughout history. Making propaganda statements for the movie in times that Iranian regime has disgusted Persian people image in the world.
@BeautySavesWorld because of our brutal and maniac regime our people have suffered, our Persian pride had been neglected, and our image defamed by the media. In this times we would like close friends of our people (not our regime) understand us not distance themselves and glorify themselves with making us look bad. Regimes come and go but the friendship remain. Persians have trusted and respected Armenians in our country and resisted Turkish pressure because of our friendship. let it stay that w
We are not glorifying ourselves and no way we r trying to make u look bad,we r simply telling our untold history.Because of centuries of being ruled by various powers our ancient history is widely unknown which helps Turkish/Azeri propaganda use it against us. And we had many good moments throughout history with Persians. We stayed good neughours and good friends, and only in Iran Armenian churces are being held in a good state, looked after, which means a lot to us ...
@rouzbeh61 I actually agree, if this movie is going to vilify Persians like in the 300 (spartans) I am not going to watch it and am going to be very critical of it's content. However I hope it is more like the Kingdom of Heaven where there were more or less no evil sides only different reasons for fighting towards diverging goals. I think Europe and the rest doesn't care about us and only will use us against Iran. I am very much against that, screw them we are neighbors for ever.
@PeopleOfAr Every nation has been assholes at one time or other. Greeks, Persians,Romans, Canadians, US, ThewholeofEU, Australia. You can find a point in history in which everyone has persecuted , murdered, and pillaged. Why complain if the persians did it long ago?
I dont think we are compalining about Pesrians, on the contraray even Armenians have very old cultrural bonds with Persians, this movie is about historical fact, as you see it referes to Persia as a Mighty Empire, so do not be offended.
In Iran still stand our ancient Churches which are looked after very well and respected, not like the donkey race next to Iran the turks, who only know how to murder and destroy, whereas Persia has a great culture dating over 4000 years
@ArmoGeorgian donkey race? facist bastard, be respectful / we are the establisher of Ottoman Empire which deserves as much as respect you nation deserves..
Our nation was almost oblitrated by the Ottomans, Armenians contributed to every facet of Ottoman life, in arts, music, culture, languages. The first printing press, some of ottoman grteatest artists were Armenians or Greeks, including Sinan the famous architect of the yannissary coprs, however our achievemnts were paid in the blood of 1.5M martayrs , so excuse me for not respecting the ottomans.
@ArmoGeorgian Armenian people who dont have any relation with these armed illegal Armenian gang who looted turkish villages and kill villagers were also banished, i have tears in my heart for these people who pay the cost of some traitors.. But i cant say it was a genoicide becaouse genoicide is a planned killing by governement.
@EminTech haha i hope you get high blood pressure from hating us so much. This is a fictional mini series in the making. The guys working on this did work on the LoTR special effects yes. But this is a clip to attract investors not even from the mini series itself. This is why i call you a dumb ass because you don’t know shit but try to say something hurtful to Armenians no matter if you know anything or not. Truth only hurts your barbarian kind. Now get tha fuck out of my channel.
The Byzantine empire was a primarily a christian empire. Everyone could get a position there. For instance if a french man knew greek and was orthodox he could become a Byzantine emperor. The armenian emperors of Byzantine empire were already hellenized descendants of armenian immigrants who have come to Byzantine empire. Armenia at the time was heretic thus no original armenian could take the throne.
@enethaeros that is untrue as these emperors I mention are FULL blood Armenian look for them search and you'll find :) Take care mr. self-proclaimed historian!
@PeopleOfAr The language of the empire was Greek . No person with no Greek education was able to take the throne. Primarily because an emperor needed the approval of the church and the patriarch who had a very strong influence on the population. Guess what mr. irony Greek was the language of the church not Armenian.
@enethaeros some Emperors toke the throne by overthrowing! And I never claimed the language of the Church being Armenian. All I said are facts. These people I mention were of DIRECT Armenian descent. Sure they spoke Greek , when did I deny that?? I do not claim Byzantium to be Armenian either. I only pointed out facts that Armenians contributed greatly to the Byzantine Empire. These are facts and I can give you many more examples from art, music, architecture to military and even emperors!
@nico3212 I don’t know what texts you have been reading, but Armenians are ORTHODOX!! To be precise the full name is "One Holy Universal Apostolic Orthodox Armenian Church". Look for the Armenian church and read "Recognition: Orthodoxy " ! So Armenians have always been Orthodox there is no need for us to convert to orthodoxy as we are as such. Indeed we belong to the original ORTHODOX church! Secondly we never allied with the Catholics or Persians against Orthodox brothers.
@nico3212 also you're a douchebag and banned from this page because of lack of any proper evidence, continuous spewing of nonsense and utter ignorance to the Armenian people and their history! Armenian Church is NOT even Monophystite it is Miaphysite!! We do not believe in ONE nature of Christ but rather two of his natures Human and Devine are united into one will. And if anyone betrayed the Orthodoxy that is not US as we hold the ORIGINAL ORTHODOX doctrine.
@nico3212 And finally it is actually your glorious Romans who ARE catholic, so if we somehow allied with them how come we are not glorious ;) Ok ok, I understand where you are coming from. You’re just a hater because none of your arguments make any sense. I told you already a couple of things about the Armenian contribution to Byzantine empire. And I can tell you much more. From literature, music to architecture and military.
@nico3212 Armenians build Byzantium and protected it with their lives. You say a few Byzantine emperors were Armenian? Lol This is a list of the emperors of Byzantium who were of DIRECT Armenian descent: Artabasdos Philippikos Bardanes Basil I Heraclius John I Tzimiskes Christopher Lekapenos Stephen Lekapenos Constantine Lekapenos Leo V the Armenian (this guys name IS the Armenian) lol Romanos I Lekapenos I would not call this a "few" Byzantine Emperors.
@nico3212 This is all of direct descent I am not even counting indirect or half Armenians. If you don’t believe me search for Armenian Byzantine emperors. Who are you kidding man. Your arguments are contradictory you glorify the Romans while condemn Armenians for supposedly siding with them? But you are wrong on all sides. Romans actually did attack Greeks. Look for “Rome: the conquest of the Helenistic Empire”. Moreover Rome attacked the Greek Pontian Empire.
@nico3212 In fact the greatest Armenian King Tigranes the Great king of kings fought alongside Mithridates VI of Pontus against Rome. They are known as the last to defy Rome.
@nico3212 Armenians sometimes sided with the Romans to fight the Muslim invasion yes, and a few times Persians conquered Armenia and forced to fight against the Catholic invasion. But the Armenians always revolted against them eventually and Armenians never sided with anyone to fight against the Greeks or any other orthodox brothers! Thus Armenians never sided with anyone to fight against Byzantium that is absurd to say the least.
@nico3212 Not only did Armenian people help found the Byzantine Empire in one of the first 4 Byzantine themes (Armeniac Theme: “The Armeniac Theme was one of the four original themes, established sometime in the mid-7th century”) but also much of its defense, development, culture and prosperity can be directly attributed to the Armenians.
@nico3212 And we have many times defended orthodoxy just like this Byzantine Emperor of Armenian descend: wiki quote: “Artabasdos abandoned his predecessor's religious policy of Iconoclasm and restored Orthodoxy…” So please keep your anti-Armenian rhetoric to yourself or go wank off to Turkish-Mongoloid-Azeri propaganda about backstabbing Armenians.
@nico3212 If anything bad can be said about the Armenians, that is that we are too loyal to our allies. We fight for them, put our country on the line for them (just like during the Roman Pontiac wars), put our people in danger for them and in the end we are left with all the loses, our country occupied, ravaged, our people mistreated and murdered and those glorious Romans of yours run like cowards to Europe.
Armenians build Byzantium and protected it with their lives. You say a few emperors were Armenian? Lol This is a list of the emperors of Byzantium who were of DIRECT Armenian descent: Artabasdos, Philippikos Bardanes, Basil I, Heraclius, John I Tzimiskes, Christopher Lekapenos, Stephen Lekapenos, Constantine Lekapenos, Leo V the Armenian (he IS the Armenian) lol, Romanos I Lekapenos. I would not call this a “few” Byzantine Emperors. And not even counting halfbloods.
@PeopleOfAr i like armenians, their history and people. but the emperors that you liste was greek, or halfbloods of father side.( leo the armenian i dont know). ok tsimiskes was armenian. and he was related to nikiphoros the second because perhaps from his mother side of nikiphoros. so he is right, a few. greece love and respect armenia. but please dont touch our histroy. greece and armenia lived then harmonic and should live today harmonic.
@phalanga1821 All the Emperors I mention I got from wikipedia as being the FULL blood Armenian, not Greek I am sorry. Much respect to the Greek people though! I have many Pontic Greek friends, I am from Abkhazia and I respect all Greek but you are wrong these about these emperoros!
@PeopleOfAr tsimiskes was armenian. but not nikiforos. perhaps some of them was born in armenia, but not everybody was of armenian blood. nikiforos was for example greek origin. i saw it at wiki too. his mother perhaps was of armenian origin but i dont think so. heraclius was armenian, basil the first armenian, lekapenus dynastie was greek, artabasdos was armenian.
@phalanga1821 like I said i got it from wikipedia search for "Armenian Byzantine emperors". All of them are included and it states "The following is a list of the emperors of Byzantium who were of direct Armenian descent."
@PeopleOfAr perhaps, wikipedia is not ever souverign. sometimes at wikipedia dont write facts professor´s, sometimes normal people like you and me write in this. perhaps all emperors was not greek and armenian, perhaps they were all jews, we dont know. i dont trust wikipedia 100%(what have to do with history). like kastriotis, in wiki they say that he is albanian, but facts say clearly greek. however. greetings from greece.
@phalanga1821 I know it's not the best but it still is a source. And there was a study into wikipedia accuracy it said that it had about as much errors as a real encyclopedia. But I agree there is also a lot not verified. But in this case I believe it is correct. Let's just agree to disagree. I love it though that you guys are just as patriotic as we are ;) And don’t get me wrong Byzantium was much more a Greek empire, but our contribution is often forgotten thats what I meant. Best wishes!
@PeopleOfAr I think all this debate is the fault of us Armenians, we are always building the countries of other people's, contributing to the rise of their civilization, and then they take all the glory and deny our great contribution ungratefully. It's time for us to understand that we should spend all our energy and talents on our country, cause others like it at first that we help them and then when it's done, they say that it's all their merit...
@eva03arm I agree a few generations down the road no one even remembers the Armenian contribution. Strangely enough though from my experience the Russians do recognize our contribution and honor Armenians as much if not more than their own innovators. But still you are right. However the problem for us is our people are very creative and need funding but our country is not strong enough and it is situated on the crossroads of huge empires who have always wanted to assimilate us.
@eva03arm It’s not that simple. First of all East Armenia is not the home of many diaspora Armenians. Our home is West Armenia which is until today under the Turkish occupation. What you suggest we do go back to Turkey? Secondly yes Armenia must create positive circumstances for Armenians to want to repatriate. People are not machines and if we all go to Armenia, Armenia won’t become prosperous just like that, it’s rather that we all become poor.
@eva03arm To prosper there need to be proper circumstances for doing so. The largest income of Armenia is until today the money that the diasporas send into Armenia did you know that? Yes Armenia’s main recourse is it’s people abroad who send money through numerous investments. They get almost nothing back, but still they do so. So not don’t be hating on people abroad just like that, some live there since the Genocide. They contribute greatly towards the Armenian cause.
@eva03arm No the problem is not that diasporas aren’t coming back, the problem is within Armenia. Why ells are so many Armenians who have always lived there annually leaving the country in such great numbers? Why? That’s the problem right there. People are leaving is the problem, not that people aren’t coming. People abroad are often used to democracy and fair governance, maybe they should fix that first learn how to retain own citizens then go complain why no one is coming back.
@eva03arm Armenians all over the world are becoming prosperous and send money to Armenia even though they get next to nothing from those investments. Nah you shouldn’t be so hard on the diasporas. Something’s gotta change in Armenia , people can’t just drop everything and go live amongst corrupt police and politicians etc…
armenians were responsible for wars against byzantium.
a kingdom that during the course of history became herectical and would rather alliance themselves with barbarians than with the glorious greco romans that civilised all mankind.
the 15th century story how an armenian bribed a turk to receive the holy light but ljghting struck through a coloumn so that the greeks received it instead.
@nico3212 I'm so tired of you self proclaimed historians spewing nonsense wherever they feel like. Listen Armenia fought against the Byzantine enemies for centuries. The final of which took place in Armenia (Manzikert). Armenian armies have been employed in the byzantine army look . Not to mention the many Armenians who became Byzantine Emperors.
From wiki: “Armenia made great contributions to Byzantium through its troops of soldiers”.
@nico3212 “Armenian military was sent to different parts of the empire, and took part in the most fierce battles...”. “Basil II (Byzantine Emperor) the Armenian infantry soldiers rescued his life, by creating a circle around him and escorting him, safe and sound, to the city of Philippopoli.”From the 5th century forwards the Armenians were regarded as the main constituent of the Byzantine army.
@nico3212 Procopius recounts that the “Scholarii”, the palace guards of the emperor 'were selected from amongst the bravest Armenians'.Byzantine and Arab historians are unanimous in recognizing significance of the Armenians soldiers. Charles Diehl, for instance, writes: 'The Armenian units, particularly during this period, were numerous and well trained.'
@nico3212 Another Byzantine historian praises the decisive role which the Armenian infantry played in the victories of the Byzantine emperors Nicephorus Phocas and John Tzimiskes. Civilized all mankind? lol long before your greco romans discovered the word civilization there were advanced cultures in the mid-east/Caucasus. Even recently the oldest winery was found in Armenia. So please keep your made up stories about holy lights and enlightened turks hahaha to yourself and your imaginary friends.
@nico3212 The entire reason that Byzantium fell to the turks was because your glorious greco-romans refused to send troops in aid of the Armenians during the Battle of Manzikert 1071. Armenians were left fighting an unwindable battle. It was our land and our people that were captured and destroyed in the process, while your greco roman deserted into Europe.
So, this is a project to do a "300"-like movie about Vartan Mamikonian and the battle of Vartanantz.... Look interesting and at least don't see "Persian-Orcs" :) :)
Good luck with the project and I hope that soon see it in the cinemas

HSerhatGURBUZ 2 months ago
@HSerhatGURBUZ Armenia was conquered by the Byzantine empire and military disassembled by Monomachos, which is considered by historians as the fatal error of the Byzantine Empire. When Seljuks attacked Armenians where the first and the last to defend in Manzikert Armenia. About who fucked you should ask your grandmother, if you don't have slender eyes you are not a Turk but Turks raped your ancestors so you forget your identity and think you are one of them hahaha. How pathetic maggot!
PeopleOfAr 2 months ago
@PeopleOfAr maybe Turks raped my ancestor i dont know that but you know well Turk's Raped and killed your fathers as well for their betrayal. why europe didnt save you?? where was your borthers? why you still dream great armenia you never have? maybe my bloodline wasnt Turk but today i am. and i sure i wasnt Armenian too. wellcome to Anatolia lots of races mixed here and lots of ppl are muslim in here were too in Manzikert you didnt save your ass and byzantine ass and w fecked al of you remmber
HSerhatGURBUZ 2 months ago
@HSerhatGURBUZ you contradict yourself so many times that it is too funny to read. You consider yourself turk but then you also admit that you are originally Anatolian. This means exactly what I said your ancestors were raped and your true identity erased. I quote Sartre: "I hate victims who respect their executioners". Go be Muslim go be happy Turk go praise those who murdered and converted your ancestors. If you are Anatolian then you are Byzantine so you laugh at yourself fool!
PeopleOfAr 2 months ago
@PeopleOfAr i can see your memory about your ancestor is still alive in your mind. how you know my ancestor raped or killed as yours? Maybe they accepted be muslim by their selfdetermination. but you think everyone as same as yours fathers :) i dont know how we turned be Muslim and be Turk but i sure you dont know Anatollian History Byzantine wasnt first in Anatolia and Armenians too They came from west. so they werent Anatolian indigenous people. search your history above your raped ancestor :)
HSerhatGURBUZ 2 months ago
@HSerhatGURBUZ You believe ignorant nonsense. By your definition no is indigenous because everyone came from Africa. Armenians originated on Armenian Highlands (go search for what this geographical term means). Nowhere in the world Armenians existed before we emerged on our historic land. Show me one record of Armenia outside of Armenian Highlands (east Anatolia), I know you can't. Stop repeating bullshit that you have convinced yourself with you are only making a fool of yourself.
PeopleOfAr 2 months ago
@HSerhatGURBUZ We Armenians are among few who retained our identity we never assimilated we never became Turks and we always practiced our own culture. This is our great victory. Unlike your ancestors we know who we are. What Europe did or did not is not important for me. I don’t discriminate on religion, unlike you obviously. Christian countries are among the most tolerant towards religions including Islam, so have some respect or go to Mecca.

@HSerhatGURBUZ and yes we did save our culture and our identity. We posses all of our culture despite of numerous imperialists who emerged and got extinct just like it will be with every other imperialist country who again tries to raise it's paws against my people.

I thought the Bible says Persians were at the Pentecost. And there are older churches in Iran than the Armenian church.
This film must be make-believe.
Can anyone tell me how Armenia lost all of Western Armenia and most of Eastern Armenia?
JewsAreLikeSnakes 9 months ago
@JewsAreLikeSnakes that’s not true, Persians were not present at Pentecost and there are no older churches in Iran. The oldest known ruined church is in Syria the oldest known surviving Church and Cathedral is in Armenia, Echmeadzin build in 301. Armenia is the first nation to adopt Christianity as it’s state religion that is what the film refers to. During the writings of the bible there were no nations Christian.
PeopleOfAr 9 months ago 18
@JewsAreLikeSnakes To your other question the answer is : “The same way Romans/Greeks lost the Byzantine Empire, and the same way Crusaders lost Israel.” To hordes of Muslims.
PeopleOfAr 9 months ago
@JewsAreLikeSnakes the oldest church in Iran is Church of St. Mary, built in 600+ AD. By this time Armenia was already for 300 years an entirely Christian nation. You should brush up your history on the region.
PeopleOfAr 9 months ago
@JewsAreLikeSnakes
This movie is not about the fall of armenia, but an earlier period in history when the emperor of persia demanded armenians change faith from christianity to paganism, and how we fought back... To answer your question, After the arrival of the Turkik tribes in the region, Armenians soon became a minority and lost independence for over 600 years..., The region however was not abandoned until the Ottoman committed Genocide and murdered 1.5 million Armenians.
raffiello 9 months ago
@raffiello : But in my history book in college it shows pictures of Christian churches in Iran older than Armenian churches ... why did Armenians have problems?
JewsAreLikeSnakes 9 months ago
@JewsAreLikeSnakes what problems are you talking about? Every nation has problems. And what history books are you reading anyway? lol Just search encyclopedias for oldest churches in the world you will see there are no older churches in Iran. Like I said before the oldest church in Iran is from 600+ A.D. over 300 years after all Armenians became Christians. Just type in Google you will find. Are you from Iran or something? You guys learn some weird propaganda or what?
PeopleOfAr 9 months ago
@JewsAreLikeSnakes
The oldest Christian "church" or official place of worship ever built to represent an entire nation's beliefs is the "Ech Miadzine" church, which was built starting 301AD, and took 16 years to build. It was originally a totally different structure than the one that still stands today. However, by the time it was complete and the orthodox priests had begun using it for religious ceremonies, Armenia as a nation wasn't completely independent, and left under Persian rule.
raffiello 9 months ago
@JewsAreLikeSnakes

@kraigthorne Childbirth was the battlefield of ancient women.
And it was a battle that claimed over 10% casualties - sometimes the woman and child would both die.

TheLoyalOfficer 9 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer Don't know about Armenia, but women most certainly fought in the Persian army, as described in Roman sources.
jlop985 8 months ago
@jlop985 Armenian women fought in every war. Many of which were documented as such in ancient manuscripts by foreign and native historians (Movzes of Khorene). Because the wars Armenia faced were always of defensive nature. We even have worrier goddesses from pre-Christian times (Nane Godess of war the daughter of Aramazd creator of heaven and earth), More recently Armenian women participated in the defense of Sartarabad and Karabakh. And the famous statue Mother Armenia bears a sword and shield
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@PeopleOfAr Thank you for the info. I have to admire Armenia, even after many centuries of war and occupation, it still has kept its identity.
jlop985 8 months ago
@jlop985 thank you for the kind words, the struggling is not over yet but we'll manage I’m sure. I hope one day people will come to respect different nations instead of trying to dominate subdue and assimilate them. Only simpleminded people don’t understand that different doesn’t mean bad. Belonging to a separate nation is not a matter of contest it’s a matter of freedom, being able to practice own way of life without prosecution. Thanks again and all the best wishes to you and your people.
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@jlop985 The woman's ancient battlefield was CHILDBIRTH. It was a war that claimed about 5-10% casualties, even among the upper classes.
I would find women fighting in ANY numbers in the ancient world highly unlikely. That may have been cooked up by the Romans to say how "barbaric" the Parthians were. Remember, back then "history" often took a distant back seat to propaganda and polemic.
TheLoyalOfficer 8 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer Actually you seem to have a poor knowledge on the matter. Like I commented to jlop985 Armenian women are documented to have participate in this (Avarayr) battle and many others, because the wars Armenia faced where always of the defensive nature. When you defend you can’t be too picky. The one you see in the trailer is known as the Battle of Avarayr and was recorded by many ancient historians like Lazar Parpartsi and Yeghishe. We even have a pre-Christian goddess of war (Nane).
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer Quote: "In May 451 the famous battle of Avarayr took place. Under the leadership of the commander-in-chief, Vardan Mamikonian, 66 thousand Armenian soldiers, women, monks and old people resisted the Persian army, which had 200 thousand soldiers."
Another historian accounts the preperations: "Men and even women, armed and helmeted, sword in belt and shield in hand, were ready to accept the challenge, to fight and die for freedom of faith and conscience."
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@PeopleOfAr Right they RESISTED. That does NOT mean that they fought in the battle lines. They may have been spies, or simply burned down grain stores, etc. They may have also been camp followers/support personnel in the army.
But in the hand-to-hand line? Women would be totally massacred - leading to the aforementioned extinction of the nation. The ancients knew this. Don't be fooled by this Hollywood nonsense.
TheLoyalOfficer 8 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer Sure Hollywood is fictional and off course it was not a tradition that's why it was so memorable when it DID happen and was recorded as such by historians. To deny this is just plain ignorant. Moreover the Amazons that were known to the Greeks as all-female warriors were placed around the Caucasus by the Greek themselves. So obviously such things did happen but surely it must have been exceptional. But believe it or not the battle of Aravayr was known to include female worriers.
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@PeopleOfAr The Amazons were a legend. I suppose you are going to say that they were running around the Ukraine and S. Russia until Heracles killed them all as part of his trials?
Women had enough to deal with without being soldiers. After all, as I said, 5-10% of them died in childbirth - which was their battlefield.
But hey, if you want to believe this, then be my guest. However, as a historian I have to say: "highly unlikely."
TheLoyalOfficer 8 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer o please not another youtube "historian". lol I’ve encountered many can’t bare their stubbornness. Just because you read something in a book doesn’t mean you know the history of the entire world. I bet you haven’t even heard of the battle of Avarayr. If you're an historian then what don't you understand? I am telling you there are documented cases of females participating in this battle.
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer In terms of the archaeological record, in 1997 the earliest known women warrior burial mounds were excavated in southern Russia. They were buried with their swords, daggers, arrowheads and saddles. David Anthony states, "About 20% of Scythian-Sarmatian "warrior graves" on the lower Don and lower Volga contained females dressed for battle in the same manner as men, a phenomenon that probably inspired the Greek tales about the Amazons."
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer In 2004, the 2,000 year old remains of an Iranian female warrior were found in the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz. I myself am not an historian but I have an academic background in social science I know what constitutes valid evidence and what not. Most if not all historic events are described in probabilities not certainties. And again I am not claiming women to have fought in battles like man have.
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer All I say and that is backed by historic and archeological accounts is that women sometimes did stand alongside men, children, old men clergymen etc… in defense of a country. This has been persistent in Armenian history as our wars have always been of defensive nature. Many have written about it and even in modern wars Armenian women are known for their participation. Read the battle of Sartarabad and Karabakgh.
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer We even worshiped a female deity of war and the famous statue Mother Armenia is a female warrior standing in armor holding a sword with a shield at her feet. Amazons are exaggerated sure but they are not baseless most ancient history could be regarded a myth for that matter. Hollywood series/movies are entertainment and highly romanticized, sure. Doesn’t mean they are bad though. What ells you want a documentary? Lol then watch history channel.
PeopleOfAr 8 months ago
@PeopleOfAr Sure, just like Athena - the goddess of wisdom and war in Greece, blablabla. The Amazons are almost totally baseless. The problem is that we see these kung-fu chicks - 110 lb. girls beating up 250 lbs men and it's just ridiculous.
But hey, whatever floats your boat dude...

Our history is full of womens' fight...unfortunatelly...
BeautySavesWorld 7 months ago
@BeautySavesWorld Ugh... How many times do I have to say this?
YES, there were female LEADERS. But, in ancient times, women in the battle line would lead to the annhiliation of the tribe or nation in question. Women in a battle line would have been MASSACRED.
The battlefield of women until about 1900 AD was CHILDBIRTH. And it was a tough fight, with mothers dying anywhere from 5-10% of the time, even among the wealthy.
So, please stop the ahistorical, PC, quasi-romantic nonsense.
TheLoyalOfficer 7 months ago
@TheLoyalOfficer I don't know where you get the impression that this movie is about massive female battles. Cause it's not, it is about a defensive war with some female volunteers in defense of a country, religion and a struggle for existence. Just like it was recorded at the time. Nothing more nothing less. You really sound a bit sexist if you ask me. Maybe not in most organized armies nevertheless enough women fought in battles a lot is documented. anyways enough of this discussion.
PeopleOfAr 7 months ago
@PeopleOfAr It's just that when I see these hot, 95 pound chicks waving around swords and taking on 200 pound jacked and armored dudes, I want to puke. It's PC crap of the highest order, and Hollywood has been getting away with it for far too long. Believe me, this is not the first movie to do this. Check out "Centurion" and "King Arthur" from the past few years ago and they have warrior chicks too. I called them out too.
What are these documents that you keep referring to?
TheLoyalOfficer 7 months ago

@TheLoyalOfficer
BeautySavesWorld 7 months ago
@BeautySavesWorld I would like to see the evidence where all of this estrogen-powered combat stature comes from. Can you name me some original documents for me to look up?
And not just ONE woman warrior. I guess there could have been one or two. But you are claiming MANY women soldiers. I would like to see where that information comes from.
Thank you.

It is true that the Armenians bravery in this battle caused the Persians to give them freedom of religion, but it did not brought the empire on its knees. in reality it was the other way around. Persians who did not wanted the Armenians to rebel which could be a headache for them (since Sassanid were in fight with eastern Romans constantly), let them to keep their religion as long as they not follow the Rome or Byzantine council.
rouzbeh61 9 months ago
As usual there are exaggerations in this movie, too. in storyline of this movie website it says a battle that shaped the western world and brought a mighty empire to its knees! who are we kidding guys! The battle was a bloody defeat, and it does not effect the western world, but Armenian religious freedom. The Sassanids won the battle, but chose to let Armenian have their religion as long as they do not betray the Sassanids.

The Passing of the Great Race
By Madison Grant
The Armenians, have resisted stoutly the pressure of Islam to force them away from their ancient Christian faith. This people really represents the last outpost of Europe toward the Mohammedan East and constitutes the best remaining medium through which Western ideals and culture can be introduced into Asia.
BeautySavesWorld 7 months ago
@BeautySavesWorld Do you have any Idea when this battle occurred? Sassanid Persians were always Zoroastrians not Muslim. Persians converted to Islam after down fall of Sassanid Persian by Arabs in 7 century. Some centuries after did war. Persians didn't accept Islam peacefully they were force to accept. Anyhow, all this history background make your statement a jock, since it is in a wrong place. Consequently, My statement is correct, do a little bit research for this war then you will learn.
rouzbeh61 7 months ago
@rouzbeh61
BeautySavesWorld 7 months ago
@BeautySavesWorld Constantinople was the last outpost for Europe or western world. Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan are in Eastern hemisphere. Armenia is also in Asia not Europe. I have to say I have a lot of respect for Armenian culture and people as whole, since I have lived with them. Armenia and Persia have been close allies for many times throughout history. Making propaganda statements for the movie in times that Iranian regime has disgusted Persian people image in the world.
rouzbeh61 7 months ago
@BeautySavesWorld because of our brutal and maniac regime our people have suffered, our Persian pride had been neglected, and our image defamed by the media. In this times we would like close friends of our people (not our regime) understand us not distance themselves and glorify themselves with making us look bad. Regimes come and go but the friendship remain. Persians have trusted and respected Armenians in our country and resisted Turkish pressure because of our friendship. let it stay that w
rouzbeh61 7 months ago
@rouzbeh61
PeopleOfAr 7 months ago
@PeopleOfAr Every nation has been assholes at one time or other. Greeks, Persians,Romans, Canadians, US, ThewholeofEU, Australia. You can find a point in history in which everyone has persecuted , murdered, and pillaged. Why complain if the persians did it long ago?
ravosblackrose 5 months ago
@ravosblackrose

@halilyildirim89
I trust you understand

Armenia at the time was heretic thus no original armenian could take the throne.
enethaeros 11 months ago
@enethaeros that is untrue as these emperors I mention are FULL blood Armenian look for them search and you'll find :) Take care mr. self-proclaimed historian!
PeopleOfAr 11 months ago
@PeopleOfAr The language of the empire was Greek . No person with no Greek education was able to take the throne. Primarily because an emperor needed the approval of the church and the patriarch who had a very strong influence on the population. Guess what mr. irony Greek was the language of the church not Armenian.
enethaeros 11 months ago
@enethaeros some Emperors toke the throne by overthrowing! And I never claimed the language of the Church being Armenian. All I said are facts. These people I mention were of DIRECT Armenian descent. Sure they spoke Greek , when did I deny that?? I do not claim Byzantium to be Armenian either. I only pointed out facts that Armenians contributed greatly to the Byzantine Empire. These are facts and I can give you many more examples from art, music, architecture to military and even emperors!

I was involved in a conversation that one of the 10 lost tribes of Israel morphed to Armenians
tk65911 1 year ago
sorry it seems quite apparent from historical precedents that armenians allianced themselves with catholics and persians against their cousins.
their is no evidence for assault by the romans.
their were some armenian emperors on the throne of constantinople ,but they converted to orthodoxy
nico3212 1 year ago
@nico3212 I don’t know what texts you have been reading, but Armenians are ORTHODOX!! To be precise the full name is "One Holy Universal Apostolic Orthodox Armenian Church". Look for the Armenian church and read "Recognition: Orthodoxy " ! So Armenians have always been Orthodox there is no need for us to convert to orthodoxy as we are as such. Indeed we belong to the original ORTHODOX church! Secondly we never allied with the Catholics or Persians against Orthodox brothers.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
unfortunately monphysitism is a condemned heresy of the ecumenical councils.
believing in the one nature of christ.
it is also demonstrated by armenians betrayal against the greeks in numerous well documented battles.
nico3212 1 year ago
@nico3212 also you're a douchebag and banned from this page because of lack of any proper evidence, continuous spewing of nonsense and utter ignorance to the Armenian people and their history! Armenian Church is NOT even Monophystite it is Miaphysite!! We do not believe in ONE nature of Christ but rather two of his natures Human and Devine are united into one will. And if anyone betrayed the Orthodoxy that is not US as we hold the ORIGINAL ORTHODOX doctrine.

@nico3212 nico are you in your sober mind?????
noitnettaattention 10 months ago
@nico3212 And finally it is actually your glorious Romans who ARE catholic, so if we somehow allied with them how come we are not glorious ;) Ok ok, I understand where you are coming from. You’re just a hater because none of your arguments make any sense. I told you already a couple of things about the Armenian contribution to Byzantine empire. And I can tell you much more. From literature, music to architecture and military.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 This is all of direct descent I am not even counting indirect or half Armenians. If you don’t believe me search for Armenian Byzantine emperors. Who are you kidding man. Your arguments are contradictory you glorify the Romans while condemn Armenians for supposedly siding with them? But you are wrong on all sides. Romans actually did attack Greeks. Look for “Rome: the conquest of the Helenistic Empire”. Moreover Rome attacked the Greek Pontian Empire.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 In fact the greatest Armenian King Tigranes the Great king of kings fought alongside Mithridates VI of Pontus against Rome. They are known as the last to defy Rome.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 Armenians sometimes sided with the Romans to fight the Muslim invasion yes, and a few times Persians conquered Armenia and forced to fight against the Catholic invasion. But the Armenians always revolted against them eventually and Armenians never sided with anyone to fight against the Greeks or any other orthodox brothers! Thus Armenians never sided with anyone to fight against Byzantium that is absurd to say the least.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 Not only did Armenian people help found the Byzantine Empire in one of the first 4 Byzantine themes (Armeniac Theme: “The Armeniac Theme was one of the four original themes, established sometime in the mid-7th century”) but also much of its defense, development, culture and prosperity can be directly attributed to the Armenians.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 And we have many times defended orthodoxy just like this Byzantine Emperor of Armenian descend: wiki quote: “Artabasdos abandoned his predecessor's religious policy of Iconoclasm and restored Orthodoxy…” So please keep your anti-Armenian rhetoric to yourself or go wank off to Turkish-Mongoloid-Azeri propaganda about backstabbing Armenians.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 If anything bad can be said about the Armenians, that is that we are too loyal to our allies. We fight for them, put our country on the line for them (just like during the Roman Pontiac wars), put our people in danger for them and in the end we are left with all the loses, our country occupied, ravaged, our people mistreated and murdered and those glorious Romans of yours run like cowards to Europe.

@PeopleOfAr i like armenians, their history and people. but the emperors that you liste was greek, or halfbloods of father side.( leo the armenian i dont know). ok tsimiskes was armenian. and he was related to nikiphoros the second because perhaps from his mother side of nikiphoros. so he is right, a few. greece love and respect armenia. but please dont touch our histroy. greece and armenia lived then harmonic and should live today harmonic.
phalanga1821 11 months ago
@phalanga1821 All the Emperors I mention I got from wikipedia as being the FULL blood Armenian, not Greek I am sorry. Much respect to the Greek people though! I have many Pontic Greek friends, I am from Abkhazia and I respect all Greek but you are wrong these about these emperoros!
PeopleOfAr 11 months ago
@PeopleOfAr tsimiskes was armenian. but not nikiforos. perhaps some of them was born in armenia, but not everybody was of armenian blood. nikiforos was for example greek origin. i saw it at wiki too. his mother perhaps was of armenian origin but i dont think so. heraclius was armenian, basil the first armenian, lekapenus dynastie was greek, artabasdos was armenian.
phalanga1821 11 months ago
@phalanga1821 like I said i got it from wikipedia search for "Armenian Byzantine emperors". All of them are included and it states "The following is a list of the emperors of Byzantium who were of direct Armenian descent."
PeopleOfAr 11 months ago
@PeopleOfAr perhaps, wikipedia is not ever souverign. sometimes at wikipedia dont write facts professor´s, sometimes normal people like you and me write in this. perhaps all emperors was not greek and armenian, perhaps they were all jews, we dont know. i dont trust wikipedia 100%(what have to do with history). like kastriotis, in wiki they say that he is albanian, but facts say clearly greek. however. greetings from greece.
phalanga1821 11 months ago
@phalanga1821 I know it's not the best but it still is a source. And there was a study into wikipedia accuracy it said that it had about as much errors as a real encyclopedia. But I agree there is also a lot not verified. But in this case I believe it is correct. Let's just agree to disagree. I love it though that you guys are just as patriotic as we are ;) And don’t get me wrong Byzantium was much more a Greek empire, but our contribution is often forgotten thats what I meant. Best wishes!
PeopleOfAr 11 months ago
@PeopleOfAr I think all this debate is the fault of us Armenians, we are always building the countries of other people's, contributing to the rise of their civilization, and then they take all the glory and deny our great contribution ungratefully. It's time for us to understand that we should spend all our energy and talents on our country, cause others like it at first that we help them and then when it's done, they say that it's all their merit...
eva03arm 10 months ago

People are not machines and if we all go to Armenia, Armenia won’t become prosperous just like that, it’s rather that we all become poor.

eva03arm 9 months ago
@eva03arm To prosper there need to be proper circumstances for doing so. The largest income of Armenia is until today the money that the diasporas send into Armenia did you know that? Yes Armenia’s main recourse is it’s people abroad who send money through numerous investments. They get almost nothing back, but still they do so. So not don’t be hating on people abroad just like that, some live there since the Genocide. They contribute greatly towards the Armenian cause.
PeopleOfAr 10 months ago

eva03arm 9 months ago

Something’s gotta change in Armenia , people can’t just drop everything and go live amongst corrupt police and politicians etc…

armenians were responsible for wars against byzantium.
a kingdom that during the course of history became herectical and would rather alliance themselves with barbarians than with the glorious greco romans that civilised all mankind.
the 15th century story how an armenian bribed a turk to receive the holy light but ljghting struck through a coloumn so that the greeks received it instead.
nico3212 1 year ago
@nico3212 I'm so tired of you self proclaimed historians spewing nonsense wherever they feel like. Listen Armenia fought against the Byzantine enemies for centuries. The final of which took place in Armenia (Manzikert). Armenian armies have been employed in the byzantine army look . Not to mention the many Armenians who became Byzantine Emperors.
From wiki: “Armenia made great contributions to Byzantium through its troops of soldiers”.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 “Armenian military was sent to different parts of the empire, and took part in the most fierce battles...”. “Basil II (Byzantine Emperor) the Armenian infantry soldiers rescued his life, by creating a circle around him and escorting him, safe and sound, to the city of Philippopoli.”From the 5th century forwards the Armenians were regarded as the main constituent of the Byzantine army.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 Procopius recounts that the “Scholarii”, the palace guards of the emperor 'were selected from amongst the bravest Armenians'.Byzantine and Arab historians are unanimous in recognizing significance of the Armenians soldiers. Charles Diehl, for instance, writes: 'The Armenian units, particularly during this period, were numerous and well trained.'
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 Another Byzantine historian praises the decisive role which the Armenian infantry played in the victories of the Byzantine emperors Nicephorus Phocas and John Tzimiskes. Civilized all mankind? lol long before your greco romans discovered the word civilization there were advanced cultures in the mid-east/Caucasus. Even recently the oldest winery was found in Armenia. So please keep your made up stories about holy lights and enlightened turks hahaha to yourself and your imaginary friends.
PeopleOfAr 1 year ago
@nico3212 The entire reason that Byzantium fell to the turks was because your glorious greco-romans refused to send troops in aid of the Armenians during the Battle of Manzikert 1071. Armenians were left fighting an unwindable battle. It was our land and our people that were captured and destroyed in the process, while your greco roman deserted into Europe.
