I find it interesting that Doug McClure's name in this film is "Kermit" because part of the background music [from 1:20 to 1:28] sounds very similiar to "The Rainbow Connection"---"Kermit The Frog's" most well-known songs :)

I remember watching this movie when I was a kid, and I remember at the end Alan and Doug had a big fight and they both ended up back with their respective wives.

I havn't seen this for years and I always thought Doug McClure drove a Ford Ranchero, but now I know thanks to this video that it's a Chevrolet El Camino, Funny because I thought he drove a Chevy in Checkmate until I saw a clip of that on Youtube and saw it was a Ford!
