  • right by the bridge, my FAVORIE spot to tear them up at, also has some nice size chad and perches, catfish also but thats the regular lol

  • you keep saying oh nice, hes got a striper, as opose to what?

  • @FishOnFishing as opposed to a blue catfish ! They are very prevalent and sometimes you can't tell what you got until you see it. If you noticed ... it wasn't me reeling them in. My son and 2 friends who really can't tell the difference. So I didn't know until I saw it ! If it was on my line ... I can tell !

  • @8darian1208 You catch catfish on live herring? Thats sick! And yeah when you fish alot you can tell. You guys are lucky you have that abundance of herring as well as shad. I cant use herring here in connecticut.

  • @FishOnFishing We also use cut shad & herring and these fish mainly came from that, altho I prefer to use the live herring for the really big stripes. We only get them for about 2 months out of year, during their spawning run.The same reason hog stripers are there from the bay. The rest of the time we are using gizzard shad, instead of hickories. I have caught big flatheads on the live herring, but don't think a blue yet. I don't have a good livewell for them, so live is usually short lived. :P

  • @8darian1208 Haha i know what you mean.

  • Hey u live in VA dont u!!!!!!!!!

  • @TezzKidd27 Yes, I do ! Join me on facebook at "5 Degrees of Fishing" for tons of VA fishing info !

  • Yes, I agree with u about the commercial fishing. I can't wait till summer here. Peace

  • @khmer4everkhmer March is on my radar ! 50 pounders ! Tight lines ...

  • @8darian1208 dam... I been fishing over 20yrs and target the 50 + pounders but no luck. let me know if u do catch them. Live herring bait the way to go! Where is James River any way? May be I'll drive there for weekend fishing if it within my range. Thanks.

  • @khmer4everkhmer They are PACKED in the James in March and April. I am still hunting for one myself. Had one jump and head shake and snap 80lb mono that was ez over 40. Had 4 other hit a live herring and snap 80lb braid like it was nothing !!! This spring I AM DUE ! LOL The James River is here in the heart of VA ... you know ... the historic James that this country was founded on ! Jamestown ? ha ha ha

  • @8darian1208 Wow... must been a big one that snaped 80lb mono line. my 65lb braid line snaped one time on me at Plum Island jetty and stay in my head for years wondering????? I will google James RIver and bait store there in Spring when my wife on her spring break. My wife only know that we will go to DC to see those apple flowers...lol.

  • @khmer4everkhmer Yes ... it was ! We landed a 23lb just after and estimated it was half the size. :/

Let me know if you come this way and I can get you hooked up. If you're on facebook, make sure to hook up with us there for all the latest. Thanks !

  • @8darian1208 I'm appreciate your kindness. As for now, I am not sure extact date yet cause my wife still register for her spring class. When I'm ready to go, I will inform u. Is there alot of people fish from shore also? I have a fishing bug....just have to ask you that. take care.

  • @khmer4everkhmer A lot of people fish from shore for the shad and herring, but to get to the stripers you really need a boat !

  • @8darian1208 oh ok...well, I will go there just see how it is anyway. I have 14 foot boat alum,15 hp work great in Merrimack river and by inlet. To chase a big cow I used live eel drag it around the flat but no luck with the cow yet. You guy down there caught most of it.... the old school team on youtube video, they hit left and right.

I saw you used alot of baitrunner in a video, I guess we have similar gears.

    Take care.

  • @khmer4everkhmer I have 15hp as well, but a 16' semi-v extra wide jon. Your boat would work great there. I do use baitrunners, but no longer use that feature. When big fish really hit it, they hook up much more often when the reel is "locked down". Just make sure the drag isn't too tight ! Sometimes it is difficult just getting the rods out of holders ... great fun !

  • U guy can use river herring there? Over here in MA, we were banned to use them. Nice Video.

  • @khmer4everkhmer well at least for now we can ! Have heard rumors of them shutting it down like the American Shad is already. Then we would be left to only hickories ... BOOO ! We don't even put a dent in the population compared to the commercial fisheries ...

  • very neat but no top water? all bait? come on! :) nice video and great info!

  • @brianmoc I have never been able to get them to bite topwater in the river. Have chucked many a lure at them to no avail. If I could catch them with consistency throwing lures ... sure, I would do it more. But I have more luck with bait and trolling and the older I get the less I care to be casting ... LOL

  • Great informative fishing videos, LOVE THEM! =]

  • @deadfishcompany Thanks bud ! Awe shucks ... :)

  • Striped bass are the best catchable fish!

  • first comment! by the way nice fish!
