Holy shit, did I just read that. Derek Roddy and Chimp Spanner collab would be fuck all nassssty.. Recruit Devin Townsend and Fredrik T., and just wait for panties to come launching themselves through the speakers from around the world..
@MrObsidian i just love how your youtube name is a minecraft reference..... or i hope it is hahah <3 sorry thats a bit random but hay haha :P this is a my fav track from at the dreams edge :P x
I dig the fact that people come on here and say Meshuggah is better than "band x". It's true. Thordendal invented this riffing style and was the first to incorporate the Holdsworth inspiration through his lead-playing style. Haake drumming? Legendary. Jens Kidman? Devastating. Always emulated but never duplicated.
Dose anyone else know of other mathcore bands that do great intrumentals like this? I cant seem to find many without singers that sound like their gargling a bucket of glass.
@CalvinJGreen Try out Cloudkicker. His is heavier, but still amazing instrumental metal. RXYZYXR is another amazing math metal band you should try out too.
@Rabidbadger011 Thanks I'm digging cloudkicker, RXYZYXR is pretty good too. Overall I prefer alot of dynamic rythims and guitar lines, still having a hard time finding more artists that fit that bill. Gru is one that I just found today however and they are fantastic. Check em out if you havent already.
On every progressive metal video, there's always 3 different types of people. 1) People who say Meshuggah is way better than Band X. 2) People who say Meshuggah is boring and sucks. and 3) People that are like "Why can't we just enjoy the music?"
@DiscoRByrno I always wondered why the kids in glee got so much credit for just singing when the band playing for them appears to have memorized and is able to play every song ever written
@elpanica he could loose some as well, I rarely listen to periphery because the vocals(clean and screams), and this guy will probably be very picky b/c the wrong vocalist can ruin a band, but if he found a vocalist who will listen to him(no ego) and at the same time sound amazing and know what to do rhythmically, that would be awesome but, thats pretty damn rare
He needs to be bigger. I realize the market isn't as big as it is for say, Bieber (sadly), but he should definitely be up there with the big names in instrumental at least. Like AAL or Amogh Symphony.
@toyotadrummer on the albums paul records the drums with EZ drummer but he plays it on the keyboard its super impressive and there is a video of him doing it on his official youtube channel i would definately check it out
allan holdsworth, guthrie govan, alex hutchings, chimp spanner, sikth, fellsilent, tesseract, the safety fire, redseasfire, the UK is really owning faces in music right now
@borowatz Probably when they gave us Spice Girls, but they gave us The Beatles and Radiohead, so they can get a pass on that one. The US has given the Brits a fair share of shitty music too.
@borowatz seriously. the UK really appreciates good music unlike America who only looks for pop icons to make money and be all corporate. the UK however treats music like real art.
Every time I listen to this song, I feel like I'm opening up my mind to a broader spectrum of the music world and it just gives me this humble feeling and almost outer worldly experience in my head.

Dammit, i wish i could afford at least a seven string. So hard to make this kind of music with a six :(
YoungNickJames 7 months ago
@YoungNickJames a trick i do to kinda emulate the 7 string sound is to drop the low E down to a B and the D to an E. it gives you the lower range....
oviefofah 7 months ago
@YoungNickJames He also uses an 8-string.

I've got some questions for you Paul Ortiz! :)
-Are drums from a software (and which one?) or did you play that too?
-For guitar lines, did you use microphones (if yes which one(s)?) in front of your amp, or did you use a guitar pre-amp or such stuff?
-What software did you use for mixing and mastering?
I love many of your songs by the way! :)
Hope I'll get some adivice from you!
P.S: Sorry for my bad english, I'm french.
