Schools were not started by the church, they were started by Egyptian and Greece societies. The same with institutions to build an intellectual elite. After watching this I'm reminded of something I very often think of: there are very many people in this world who have absolutely useless jobs, jobs that are completely unproductive and of absolutely no benefit to society. If these people didn't do these jobs, NO ONE WOULD MISS THEM. I don't know who the guy in this video is, but perhaps his job is one of those.

You haven't any idea what the pope have to do in one day.
He has to stand up early in the morning for a mass. Then he have to meet important people. Eating and of course the Angelus at 12 o clock than pray ect. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER HE IS AN OLD MEN. What is you grandfather doing? I even bet the most of them don't reach that age without there naps in the afternoon. But the pope can't do little naps. Schools were not started by the church, they were started by Egyptian and Greece societies. The same with institutions to build an intellectual elite. The church, at the time that you seem to like so much, th middle ages, prevented simple people to get a proper education in order to stay in power. The educational system would be unthinkable without the scularisation that took place.

The educational system as started By St.Jean de La Salle and many other saints was a compulsory program which educated Children boys and girls separately in Latin, Mathematics, Philosophy and science, the Church invested a lot of many in universities. i twas in fact created by the Church, Oxford dates back centuries, it was founded by Dominican priests.

The church actually founded universities in order to educate later priests (i.e. males from the elite).
The great public had to visit village schools. The universities started to concentrate more on the public after the reformation and it actually really started only when the school system became a state subject and not a church subject.

No one can deny that the state (monarchies) had no schooling under their jurisdiction, the Church began village schools and universities as early as the 1100's in fact take a look at Oxford founded around 1200 it was catered for by Dominicans . It was after the Renaissance that Kings began building universities, even then they asked that priests teach students.

I'm not here to defend every decision made by the church ever, Bad mistakes were made particularly by Bishops but its important that we get the facts strait. The authorities already knew the children had been abused but were either unable or unwilling to do anything. They went to the police before the Bishop so there is no point reporting a crime that the police already know about. When the Bishop found out he suspended Fr Murphy which was all that he could do. He wasn't a policeman after all
