I agree that some Republicans and conservatives allow for loopholes to stay since it means more taxes. I do think loopholes should be closed. Even Ronald Reagan took steps to close loopholes in the 1980s and it increased revenue without hurting the economy. This is extreme and I am glad this is pointed out. However, what should also be said is that the Democrats and liberals are not facing up to the fact that Medicare and Social Security needs to be changed to survive but they won't touch it.

actually the modification I like better is increasing the cap for SS to like $160-200k per year. I suspect a decent percentage of those earning > $106k per year are actually going to depend on some of that in the end. having a higher cap makes a lot of sense as it's basically taking into account income inflation over the decades. $106k was living the good life 30 years ago :) plus that way it all stays within the SS system and isn't tied to tax cuts elsewhere.
@thesparitan I have read many articles and all the ones I see say it will go insolvent in 2037. That is 26 years away. This is an estimate besides. Last year, we already started to take in less in social security than we give out. They projected this to happen in 2016. So It may happen sooner. No matter what, we need to do something about it now. Repealing tax cuts doesn't solve the problem. If you repeal the tax cuts, that should all go towards the budget not social security.

Companies can charge what they want because people are regulated to what insurance they can own. Each state has a few options of insurers, for example, a NY person cannot buy Texas insurance, therefor, prices are how they are.

I suspect a decent percentage of those earning > $106k per year are actually going to depend on some of that in the end. having a higher cap makes a lot of sense as it's basically taking into account income inflation over the decades. $106k was living the good life 30 years ago :) plus that way it all stays within the SS system and isn't tied to tax cuts elsewhere.

@thesparitan I have read many articles and all the ones I see say it will go insolvent in 2037. That is 26 years away. This is an estimate besides. Last year, we already started to take in less in social security than we give out. They projected this to happen in 2016. So It may happen sooner. No matter what, we need to do something about it now. Repealing tax cuts doesn't solve the problem. If you repeal the tax cuts, that should all go towards the budget not social security.

Raising taxes is badly needed for many reasons including Social Security. America's wealthy are paying the lowest taxes EVER, most large corporations pay no taxes at all, while we're fighting three wars.

Communism is a particular type of socialism where money does not exist and everything is free. 2. Medicare pays but the cost compared to what they pay aren't the same, medicare pays more. For example, if you have car insurance and you get in an accident, the shop always charges the maximum compared to charging the individual without it.
3.The different between a capitalist and corporitist is, Capitalist is you and I, using money from our savings. A corporitist has special benefits from the govt. over others (laws, regulations, etc)

@Iammram About 2: Here in Australia we have the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). It decides what medicines and treatments are allowed in the country, and what sort of prices are reasonable. In good ol' capitalist U.S. of A, pharmaceutical companies may be able to charge what they like, but not here in Oz. Compared to the rest of the world you pay way more than anyone else for medicine and treatment..

I think two things are being twisted.
Companies can charge what they want because people are regulated to what insurance they can own. Each state has a few options of insurers, for example, a NY person cannot buy Texas insurance, therefor, prices are how they are.
Companies need consumers, consumers don't need companies, remember that.
They exist because we paid for their service, if they are good, they thrive, if they aren't they die.
That's capitalism.

And if you think you own your property try building an extension to your house without the government permits. Try not paying your property taxes. As an socialist/anarchist myself I use the word to refer to "worker control of the workplace." By this standard the Bolsheviks were great enemies of socialism and under Trotsky moved very quickly to destroy every example of socialism that had emerged in Russia since the february revolution...an argument many left socialists made at the time.
