Shadowless Sword (Korean: 무영검) is a 2005 South Korean film. A martial arts epic filmed in China, the film follows the exploits of the last prince of the Balhae Kingdom, who hides his identity in a small village until he is called to battle invaders from Khitan. It was released in North America, the United Kingdom and Ireland by New Line Cinema on DVD as The Legend of the Shadowless Sword.
This film does not seem at all original. From the song being played through out the entire trailer to everything looking like Crouching Tiger, Hero, and a plethora of others.
i hate all this flying shit over rooftops, maybe balancing on a sword or running up a wall but flying? ruins it for me everytiem i see thast in a martial arts movie
Okay, trailer is amazing, loved the movie and the sword scenes were amazing, coordination was very skilled. I was like so into the trailer until suddenly at the end, some american guy suddenly says, "Shadowless Sword" and I was like, "NOOOOO!"
How come that Chinese/Koranness martial artists are allways able too glide/fly and hit hard as rock with cloth? I mean, where the hell does that come from?
@Welther47 all that flying (it's all wires by the way) is to make movie more "all audiences"/blockbuster. check some Jackie Chan interviews- he says most of the real martial art is just replaced by special effects now cause simple kung-fu its not that interesting and entertaining for everyone anymore. somehow (I don't understand why) people want to see all that flying/ cloth fighting instead some real stuff. I prefer "IP Man" movie style. old good ass kickin
@Welther47 its actually part of the martial arts skills, "flying" is your lightness kung fu, where as hitting stones as hard as can with cloth is really you sending your internal energy into your weapon where as u can smash rocks..so lets say if ur fight someone who is also using internal energy..and the weapons collide and dont smash is because they are really fighting with that energy.. thats how their weapons dont "smash like rocks"
I want to say this movie is good, but it's crap. Koreans are just not good at martial arts flicks. The people who are praising this movie are just Kfans. Martial Arts fans don't like this movie.

@TheRushfx The best thing about IP Man was the story. It's rare for a Martial Arts film to not only have nearly totally original fighting sequences, awesome story telling, but to be a true story at that. Must agree with you as it being the best Martial Arts films to date.
@MCMLXXXVIIIprod Not even close. The Ip Man films were historically inacurate and over the top. Donnie's fight scenes were good but no where near as dynamic as his fights with Sammo and Wu Jin in SPL.
And Reign of Assassins was a run of the mill standard kung fu flick though Michelle always delivers a good performance no matter what movie she's in.
Please avoid this movie, it's so bad! Bad acting, bad facial expression, crappy fighting, and unbelievable retarded scenes. This movie must be avoided.

A better attempt to recreate Chinese style wuxia in a Korean setting & this is really a GREAT EPIC FILM! "Musa The Warrior" another powerful Korean film also w/ Chinese actress, Ziyi Zhang! South Korean film makers have been trying hard to prove their ability to do action just as well as Hong Kong, although few attempts fall flat such as da underwater fight scene, this is well worth a watch. Its more in common with BUTTERFLY AND SWORD than CROUCHING TIGER, just look at the exploding bodies
You're right about Ip Man and Fearless. I think it's the way the action scenes were filmed and edited that made me admire Shadowless Sword. But it's true - the other two films have superior action scenes.
It seemed they had set up the ending for a second movie but I am unsure what became of it. It most certainly was an interesting movie filled with little comedic moments despite all the action.

This was a beautiful surprise and i enjoyed watching the movie as well. I wish there was an happyend..but i think as it is a drama it must be wihtout :(

A better attempt to recreate Chinese style wuxia in a Korean setting & this is really a GREAT EPIC FILM! "Musa The Warrior" another powerful Korean film also w/ Chinese actress, Ziyi Zhang! South Korean film makers have been trying hard to prove their ability to do action just as well as Hong Kong, although few attempts fall flat such as da underwater fight scene, this is well worth a watch. Its more in common with BUTTERFLY AND SWORD than CROUCHING TIGER, just look at the exploding bodies

Ip Man and Fearless has way better action than this.
Shadowless sword is just like another Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon rip-off movie, only more shit and its korean.

You're right about Ip Man and Fearless. I think it's the way the action scenes were filmed and edited that made me admire Shadowless Sword. But it's true - the other two films have superior action scenes.

It was a good movie but the final battle could have been longer and more entertaining. I still recommend it along with the following:

It seemed they had set up the ending for a second movie but I am unsure what became of it. It most certainly was an interesting movie filled with little comedic moments despite all the action.
