  • Thank you so for posting this!

  • Informative video, before watching this I though the 'ram rod' was used to lubricate the barrel with gunpowder, silly me.

At least I can say I've learnt something today, and at 11:59PM as well!

  • the ramrod part shoul've been the most irritating/time consuming...imagine having to pull out this long stick, ram the bullet/gunpowder into the barell, pull the damn thing out again and put it back into its place...now imagine having to do all that quickly/accurately(up to 4 times/min.) in the heat of battle and with the enemy closing...

  • detailed and on the point.

    This is good!

    :D

  • good drill british soldier

  • I love the you instructed to spit the ball down the barrel; I always thought it impractical to try and fumble it with your fingers when you could just bite it off and spit it down after you fill you barrel with the powder.

  • I think the India pattern Brown Bess is the most handly musket of the Napoleonic period (and the cheapest too), sorry my english.

  • the gun may be old but its still cool:)

  • i heard to do it in measured amounts or the gun will have burning embers left, and explode or sometihng like that

  • this gun has an awesome sound :)

  • Bel video/compliments, it's a very good movie.

  • They should carry multiple ram rods, then they could have just dropped them, instead of wasting time putting it back in.

  • but that would mean more weight, and trust me when you are marching somewhere around 20 miles in a day, the less you carry, the better.

  • I would think that if you were just standing somewhere, it'd be better to stick the rod in the ground or something rather than putting it back into the holder on the musket.

  • then you could lose it in battle if your retreating..

  • Socarulz:

Where would they put the ram rods if they had to use a new one for each shot? Do you know how much weight that would be?

  • lol, yeh, regularly hold a lead ball in your mouth, thats a good idea, then again, i guess your average red coat isnt worried abou the eventual onset of lead poisoning in battle

  • wow i like the brown bess musket i want to get one of those, that is why i watch this video a few times so i know how to operate. can u tell me where to get one.

  • it goes "powder, ball, wad" thats all ya need to remember was just keeps the ball and powder from just rolling out the barrel when it is pointed down

  • yeah and also if you watch sharpe patrick harper shows you how to fire a flintlock musket without a ramrod then at one point he actualy does it becuase he's fired his ramroc into the neck of the wolf brigade of the french army.

  • actualy i was wrong it's just a french dragoon not a wolf dragoon.

  • Yeah that was in the first episode, "Sharpe's Rifles", where are Harper was arrested for mutiny, and got released after saving the flag of Santiago.

  • THX !

  • Fascinating. Viewing how it goes, one wonders how guns would be 200 years from now.

  • Just wondering, here the guys says the musket ball is in the top of the cartridge, which you bite off and hold in your mouth, then 'spit down' the musket ball.

I always believed the ball was in the bottom of the cartridge, once you had bitten off the top you held the cartridge by the base to prevent the ball coming out while you primed the pan and poured the powder down the ball. Then you let the ball slip from the cartridge down the ball, followed by the paper.

    What is the correct way?

  • in most cases the the ball is at the top 4 u to hold in ur mouth but some times they had it at the bottom

  • wow, thanks

  • very interesting!

  • oh he is i've seen him at least 4 times and he never ceases to amazaze.
