Remember in the black lodge when Annie says to Cooper: "I saw the face of the man who killed me. It was my husband!". I bet that it was supposed to mean that Evil Cooper marries Annie in the future and kills her. And then you can imagine what else gonna happen... Maybe a new FBI agent comes to town to solve this thing about Annie getting killed? :) I like to imagine and make my own happy ending. That makes me feel a little better.
@xAsgerCobainx Wow -- i never even thought about this!! but you're absolutely right. I never gave any thought to the "25 years later" motif. But you're right, by golly! Coop is in the black lodge for 25 years, during which time Evil Coop kills Annie. But, how would that have been feasible for a Season 3?
Audience protest is the only language that these Network CEOs seem to understand. The Audience did the same with "Jericho" by sending nuts to the Network and the network actually even produced another 8 episodes. Twin Peaks should have deserve that treatment aswell. At least another half a season would have been great. The second season just ends with a huuuge cliffhanger.
It's been attempted over and over again since the cancelation of the show. Afraid it's not going to happen. Even if enough interest was renewed, I don't think David Lynch would be willing to revive the show - and it's nothing without him.
Also, all the original actors are nearly 20 years older or dead. The only way I see it working is with a mostly new cast with a few familiar faces. Even then, it would be a challenge for the writers to explain what has happened in the two-decade interim.
Agreed. I think it would be nice for one of the original main writers like Lynch, Frost or Peyton to sit down and hammer out a resolution and produce it in some format, even if it's just a book or graphic novel. But I do think that Peaks is dead for most of the original creators and they have no reason to go back.
According to Peyton, btw, the original idea was to deal with the evil Cooper storyline for like four episodes at the start of season three and then jump ahead four months to find that Coop has quit the FBI and become like a smalltown pharmacist who (undoubtedly) solves mysteries in his spare time.
It would definitely be cool to see continuation in an official, canon book or graphic novel. I don't mind dark or ambiguous endings (I thought the Sopranos finale worked), but the way Twin Peaks ended was so anticlimactic, unsatisfying, and simply left way too many questions unanswered. There needs to be some resolution to the many character arcs, good or ill.
Twin Peaks wasn't just a two-hour movie. It was series of 29 45-minute long episodes, making the characters seem like friends and family to many of the audiences members who followed the show all the way. The whole Black Lodge/mysterious forest theme should probably remain mostly a mystery, but the devoted fans deserve to know the fates of the characters.
But remember, Cooper had a dream of himself in the Black Lodge 20 years later. Maybe it took him that long to escape, and that's where we pick up...him coming back to the real world 20years later. Hmm?
Still would like to know what happens with the "fake" Cooper in the meantime! What does he do, kill everyone in Twin Peaks before attempting world domination? I mean, a possessed Agent Cooper is a very dangerous thing!
However, when it comes to the Black Lodge, I don't think time has any meaning, or at least not in the way we understand time in the normal world.
Hmm indeed. Is it wrong to assume this was all planned from the beginning? A big elaborate comeback in case the show went off the air? Should I stop talking?
Jack Nance as Pete Martell! He was awesome! Well, they all were, and each deserve a special mention. Kenneth Walsh playing Windham Earle still scares me a little, heh.
Yes Jack Nance! Yes Best Show!
