  • When I die, the original Son Volt will be the band playing in heaven :)

  • Ste. Genevieve is a small town in southeast Missouri, south of St. Louis along the Mississippi River. It's one of the oldest towns in the U.S. west of the Mississippi. There was a great effort to save it from flooding in about '93 (if memory serves me well). But that's just a minor reference. The song is really about loss.

  • wrinkle neck mules

  • @salernoslim are the greatest band still in existance.

  • what is this song about?

  • @thunderFence

In part at least its about a town called St Genevieve (southern part of USA) that was flooded. There is more to it however.

Its also a song for a friend who you would meet anytime or anywhere. Whatever it cost you.

    Great song.

  • Are they all gone? How about the Be Good Tanya's and the Wood Brothers.

  • There once was a great period- where we got Son Volt, Old 97s, the Jayhawks and some others like them- I miss this music.
