Finally Jinnah had agreed to Cripps Plan and gave up demand for Pakistan where autonomous areas would have formed in muslim majority areas Congress first agreed to it and then Gandhi reneged on agreement. That was a point of no return. By the the autonomous regions were to be an experiment for ten years only thereafter the Indian parliament would reconsider the position. To Gandhi Hidu hegemony was so important that he preferred a division of India to autonomy of some regions only for ten years.

Cripps plan indicated contrary things. To muslim league it provided a possible stepping stone to carve out a bigger pakistan (full bengal, full punjab). For congress it provided the opportunity to save the union. neru nixed the Cripps plan. In 1946 interim government, liaquat and muslim leaguers in the cabinet apparently worked to undermine commonality of governanance. The key issue was the lack of trust.

Now you will tell me it was Jinnah who was responsible or the partition because this what you have been led to believe. If you look at history objectively you will ind this was not the case. when Jinnah was first approached by prominent muslims he admonished them and told them to keep away from this idea.Jinnah was a founder member of the INC before Gandhi joined it but when nGandhi joined it and ound Jinnah ahead of him in this movement he played the religious card to cut him down.

I would not say it was just Jinnah. Jinnah was an enabler of latent separatist emotions that islam encourages. Gandhi too wanted to use the political nature of islam in Khilafat movement.

The seperation of mosque and administration is essential for managing complex societies (Jeffersonian type Constitution..permanently keeping church out. In my view, except Mustafa Kemal noone has tried this in islamic world). Partition was a collective failure of India's leaders.

I talibs takeover in Pakistan it will be unortunate or all not just Pakistanis it will also have its eect on the Indian muslims and hence India. However this is an unlikely scenario in All provinces particularly Punjab and Sindh. I dont think the original muslims or their descendants will return to India they will have to ight it out in Pakistan by whatever means even through camoulage of beards.I still say that if it were possible to live togather undivided India it would have been the best.

Amongst Punjabis,Sindhis UPites Hyderabadis,etc had a race o Muslims who came from outside ie non indigenous muslims who brought most of thev Ganga Jumni culture with them it is their decendents today who continue to dominate the so called Urdu which is called Hindi in Indian films. Pakistan has a large community o these people who also dominate the cultural scene.

Buddy. India is a nation of mixed tribes (locally it is called castes). everyone found a niche operated. Immigration from central asia and their settlements into Indian mosaic was common among Hindus and subsequently among muslims.

The right word for the language is Hindustani (the syncretic language). Urdu and Hindi are variants of this.

So called Pakistani culture is on account of the trickle down effect of their Hindu heritage and interactions with Hindus.

If talibs take over, these cultural types will have to go underground or cross the Indian border unless of course of they decide to grow beards and ban the "Infidel" culture.

Talibs will short circuit this process. Otherwise the process will be more gradual till all the pakistanis become little arabs.

But if there is tranformation and i-slam loses its potency, there will be a natural union as historically i-slam has been the genesis of all the hatred.
