  • May the force be with you

  • PODRACING

  • PEOPLE, if you touch this absolutely nothing will happen, except if its been on a while it may burn you. It'll be the same stupid thing as touching a light bulb. Same exact thing. I've used these since 9th grade, the reason it appears this color is because of the valence electrons loosing energy and moving down a certain amount of energy shells. Based on how many shells they go down (shells are specific), their emission spectrum (ROYGBIV) will change specifically. Each elements color is unique.

  • Mace Windu's lightsaber!!!

  • one small step for man one giant leap to becoming a jedi

  • Is hydrogen plasma free protons and electrons?

  • I did not know hydrogen was purple in its plasma state. Well, you learn something new everyday :D

  • Lightsaber

  • I wanna grab it and try to slice someone in half.

  • nice, i think when burning hydrogen it also produces the same color as its plasma because of its spectrum, it has something to do with number of electrons contained in its atom

  • @EMC2Documentaries Anytime you apply any source of energy (heat, electricity etc...) it will display the same color- this purple. Color is unique to each element. The color is due to the charged electrons loosing energy, and dropping down energy shells. The specific amount they drop determines their emitted color, therefore each element has its own specific emission, no matter how you apply the energy. Its pretty cool, especially seeing each elements unique color emission.

  • cm1 touch it, you know you want to and so we do :D

  • Uhhh Mace Windoo

  • in school my teacher did this with about 8 different chemicals and we used some type of light measuring device to view the different visible colors and their different wave lengths.

  • what is the temperature when the plazma appeares purple colour?

  • The sun is purple when I see it.

It is also white when I see it.

  • Alright, I've been asking around, and I'd really like to create a very time-absorbing discharge tube such as this. If you could do anything to push me in the right direction for making one such as this (can be way poorer quality. It just needs to be tangible.) then please do.

  • hi basco36. whats your high voltage source here. do you have a chematic for it please?

  • Does this ever get hot? or cold?

  • it is in a vaccum tube

  • can't touch this dadadada da da

  • It's not purple. It's blue and red. Your eye perceives it as purple but it isn't.

  • @curtisphibbs Actually, it's just waves of light, but your eyes perceive it as colour.

  • Comment removed

  • @curtisphibbs The blue and red is the additive color method that your monitor uses to display that purple. The tube itself emits EMR in purple spectrum wavelength.

  • Obi-wan never told you of your father...

  • Why havent people figured out this is a tube full of hydrogen?

  • is it dangerous to look directly into plasma light?

  • @RelativelyHostile1 wear uv light filters.

  • That isn't plasma

  • @iabarr1 Do you do know what plasma is? its the state past gas where atoms become electrically charged is a simple definition

  • @iabarr1 Um, yes it is.

  • @ToasterAthiesm @FerrilEwok Sorry, I was wrong. It is plasma. I just did't make the connection. For the record plasma is ionized or partially ionized gas and happens to be the most common state of matter in the universe as clouds of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Again, I am sorry for the mistake.

  • @iabarr1 Uhh.....why are you assuming I don't know that?

  • the wave is not stable, you can hear it humming

  • stare wars plasma sword

  • I would install magnets over those fluctuating cathodes.

  • uhhhhh....... LIGHTSABER!!!! XD

  • actually a light sabre is not plasma at all its an electrical arc powered by focusin an energy source through the power crystals in the hilt of the weapon and due to this there is a gyroscopic effect to holding a light sabre so only force sensetive can handle one and the energy within a lightsabe is so immense that if the focusing crystals ar incorrectly placed.... well.....BOOMMM

  • @ShinraX666 no, its a tumor of the magical rainbow dualhorned narwhal. But then someone cut off its horn and infused it with thor's testicles. And BAM, lightsaber

  • nnn

  • @emolove162100 no but ill be in your bed with a machete can't w8

  • gamma ray pistols maybe are real but banned

  • not plasma

  • @nicklopez623

    Yes it is.

  • Ooh, purple lightsaber, the rarest lightsaber crystal is purple..

Now tell me.. is it racist that the only black guy in Star Wars had the purple lightsaber?

  • @ZachHerminghaus Lando Calrissian didn't have a lightsaber!

  • @MetalSpiral master windu or wtf his name was had a purple one i think, maybe even two :S

  • @MetalSpiral he wasn't a jedi

  • will my finger blow up if i touch it

  • @TheAwdawg

    nope

  • What was the purpose?

  • so in theory its possible to make a lightsaber?

  • @halloforigin Thanks for your reply!!

  • can i put a bunch of those under my car for some serious chick attention?

  • is plasma dangerous to humans? i'm refering to actual contact.

  • @Klause5425

It's super-heated gas which also has thousand joules of electricity going through it dangerous?

  • @Klause5425 plasma is gas heated to the point that the electrons and protons break apart from their atomic structures and bounce around, occasionally reconnecting. considering the super heated part i would say ya, its dangerous dude lol.

  • that could make a good vibrator for my girlfriend, Yes that kind of vibrator.

  • lol why is fake in the tags?

  • TOUCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @XxSemperFiGuyxX hell they should lick it!!

  • @XxSemperFiGuyxX Nothing will happend .

  • @XxSemperFiGuyxX Nothing will happen. I have touched one and its just a little hot

  • @XxSemperFiGuyxX "Can't touch this" - MC Hammer

  • @XxSemperFiGuyxX Go touch a lightbulb thats been on for 5 minutes. Identical feeling. In fact the light bulb might hurt a bit more depending on what kind of bulb it is.

  • Its the plasma bridge in halo 2.

  • @XxbufferingsxksxX yes...

  • i've watched better porn than this

  • can... I.... touch it...??

  • @mechwarreir2 Thats what she said ; D

  • That would actually make quite an awesome lightsaber

  • hmm.. the covenant use lots of hydrogen plasma i presume..

  • Wow! Congratulations for criator!

  • and so the era of the lightsaber begins....

  • If you really did this you could make an online shop and start selling it one by one! Hand made laserlight MADE IN USA it sounds cool! Can you really make more of those?

  • @mrantonsen dumb ppl would buy it and try to 1. Lick it 2. Blend it, or 3. Throw it at somebody :)

    Then the lawsuits come :(

  • mkes me wnaa do push ups...

  • what happens if you touch it? I WANNA TOUCH IT

  • Put this video with all the other videos on cold fusion, add them all up and it's another winner.

  • a wild ewok appears

  • nerdgasm

  • what happens if i touch it

  • @beefptty you EXPLODE in a puff of purple smoke!!

  • @randomnum2 lololololololololol makes me wanna push someone into it

  • make progress

  • now touch it

  • Lightsabers won't be far behind...

  • hydrogen plasma? just electrocute some bubbles :P

  • cool, literally!

  • light saber v0.1 ?

  • What happens if you touch it??

  • a covenant plasma projector is 100,000 bigger

  • @Halomaster4life1 ???????????? Details......

  • ANNOYING COMMENT IN CAPS LOCK

  • 2 words, NEON LIGHTS

  • @datdudesux Lets assume this is correct then guess what... You are still short changed. However, If Hydrogen in a plasma state creates a HMMMMM UV light what then does that mean? You tell me... It is a good show none the less. But there is a method and reason to his madness...

    Blessed Be,

    White

  • i preffer halo plasma

  • That is awesome.

  • oh my god.......ITS THE! COVENANT!!!

  • can.. can it touch it

  • plasma is super cold

  • touch it....

  • use the force luke...

  • is it hot?

  • all this technology... why wont they make light sabers yet dammit

  • @carltonfrancis1 because light sabers at this point are entirely impossible due to the fact that plasma must be contained and unless some sort of magnetic technology comes out where it somehow holds it in a definate shape, making it into a weapon is not only impossible but not cost effective in the least. n000b.

  • @studmuffin45678 not true, michio kaku on his show sci fi science, says its entirely possible to make a "lightsaber"

of course not excatly like the movies, but can do the same thing, its amazing what science can do, why is it only the past 100 years we have managed to use it without religious wackos freaking out?

  • @Anthony1136 the wackos are freaking we just don't hear about it as often

  • @carltonfrancis1 or plasma pistols

  • @carltonfrancis1 Because it's theoretically impossible. The light would keep going and going and going... Unless you made a plasma stick, gave it a handle and then covered the stick in foil. Then again, that would suck.

  • @carltonfrancis1 You know what. Go to school and make a light saber then. Sell crack to fund your research.

  • @carltonfrancis1 ...simply because we cant yet and not soon

  • @carltonfrancis1 wickedlasers . com got some :p

  • 3 major problems with its production

    1. heat

    2. power supply

    3. stoping the light at a set lenght

  • @carltonfrancis1

once you figure out a way to stop a light beam without a mirror or anything.. come to tell me.

  • @Basco36 Yeah he's right... Go back to school.

  • wow. did you buy that?

  • lol put ure finger through that light lol jeez i wonder what will happen ?

  • dead stars still burn ROLF

  • well.... i expected this to happen. a line of plasma will couple to ground if it travels along a ionized path ie. lazer. now the real probleb is a high cunnent power supply, and somebody to piss you off

  • Can you make a light saber our of this? Thanks

  • @Basco36 ....lightning

  • ill be impressed when we make light sabers

  • @yobog94 enough with the fucking light sabers

  • I have a mercury version of this type of tube. Once, I connected a 15,000 V neon transformer to it and then noticed the cathode and anode were glowing red! Luckily, the tube is fine. I guess it is made of borosilicate.

  • put ur finger in it:>

  • Nifty. I have a few spectrum tubes too. Maybe in the future I'll make a video of them being driven by an audio modulated high voltage source.

  • make me a lightsaber plz and thx :D

  • Comment removed

  • Ligtening uses a steam plasma to do nuclear fusion from water

  • A H plasma does nuclear fusion

  • Wtf real lightsaber :D

  • a lightsaber !

  • A H plasma does nuclear fusion

  • how did you do this I want know right now!!!!!!!

  • Although it appears purple/pink, its spectral lines are actually red, teal, and 2 deep violet lines. combined makes this color

  • la fisica del plasma la trovo davvero molto interessante!

  • light saber. im doing it

  • nerd? we are both watching a video on plasma...

  • i need these vids as a reference for a school project but im not talking about star wars like you

  • meow, so defensive. Any teacher will tell you that Youtube is not a approved source for research.

  • yes if you are searching for a tesla coil skematic

  • @T0bb5 Using the insult "nerd" is irrelevant on a nerd video.

  • @T0bb5 We're not nerds, we're GEEKS! Geeks are better

    ...

  • haha XDXD

  • Correct your own spelling mistake for 10 points! ...respond in any other way than this grammar correction and lose 100 points!

  • i rofl =) do i lose 100 points?

  • Just so you know it's not a vacuum, it is full of hydrogen. There is slight negative pressure which does help separate the hydrogen particles a bit; so a slight vacuum one might say. It would still work, it would just require higher voltage.

  • A little bit. The voltage is high but the current is not very sthrong.

  • if you touched something with that would it burn it?

  • Yes it will. It has the temperature of something between 2,5 thousand to 3 thousand Celsius. It's really amazing.

  • it generates UV-light, doesn´t it?

wikipedia says that it produces 4 eV quantums which are blacklight

  • kk

but 4 eV quantums ARE blacklight :P

  • yeah, but who does that? who would feel the need to post random shit on a legit. topic?

  • how hot is that? could that be used to melt stuff outside of a vacuum?

  • nine dollars he's thinking starwars.

  • @remusomega

Yeah it doesn't work outside a vaccum, however in space we could wage war using plasma weapons.

  • I think you could get the tube to glow by putting it in a microwave oven as well.

  • That's a Geissler Tube and was invented back around the turn of the century. They put many gasses in those from Hydrogen to Xenon and the HV was generated by a simple spark gap fed transformer that could be called a hybrid of a Neon transformer and a Tesla coil, but many years before Neon was used in Vegas. Nowadays, you can use a properly rated Neon transformer for 6 to 12 inch tubes.

  • Hey as an Inventor I am only going to say this once! put this over your tail pipe of your car and you will create Carbon monoxide into h20 dihydrogen monoxide that equals a free fuel if storage in a gas tank to switch over from gasoline I believe but I could be wrong it might explode so be careful. I love the musical light show.

  • But that's the second time you said that. I saw it under another hydrogen plasma video.

  • you should have showed it through a spectrometer too

  • how give you KV ?

  • Are you asking how he got the UV?

  • learn to focus man, i hate this lamo auto non focus people use.

  • the mecury gas looks better its blue

  • Great video. I love the colors.

  • oh, I didn't build it, I just use The electrical ballast thats meant for the bulb.

  • oh. then a hydrogen bulb, plus a 110v to 12v dc converter.

  • yep.

  • @Basco36 what would happen if you touched the beam
